Faiblesse Des Sens
Can't you just clone the drive?
FredEffinChopin
Yeah, that's the natural plan. What I was getting at though, is that there were some unforeseen issues the times that I had done that on the PS3, such that had I known they would arise ahead of time, I would have plucked very select data from the drive, thrown the new one in without any backing up or restoring, re-downloaded the games, and saves several hours. I just wanted to avoid anything like that that anyone might be aware of that is involved in a PS4 HDD (SSD/SHDD) upgrade. Seems not though, so I'm going to keep every single thing on there and go for a full copy. The drive just got here today, so I'll probably give it a shot this weekend. Mister Jack
I upgraded to a hybrid drive a while back and I don't recall having any problems with it.
Popular Post TCP
Sony launches new media app for PS4, includes DLNA support but more importantly, it let's you play video files (including MKV) via a jump drive. I don't really care about DNLA but it'd be nice if the system could play back video files. Lots of people download movies and play them back on their PS3s, it'd be nice to continue that on PS4. I don't think Sony has much of an interest in allowing you to do that though. They'd rather you buy the movies from their store, or at least subscribe to one of their partner services. I don't understand that reasoning. The PS3 and the Vita can do that, why wouldn't the PS4.Let's make a bet! It was an experiment that they ultimately decided was unnecessary. PS4 isn't backwards compatible either. ETHAN!!! You might have assumed I forgot about this lunacy... BUT I DID NOT. Though I did spend way longer than I should have trying to dig up these year old posts..... REGARDLESS, how does that crow taste?!?! I'm afraid as per our bet that we both totally agreed on, you must give up your mod status to me.
Vecha
Is the world safer with TME as mod or TCP. I say a battle ala Dark Crystal should be done.

FredEffinChopin
They still need to let us get at least the music onto the HDD, as there are games that incorporate music into them otherwise that can't on the PS4. Well, one that I know of at the moment, which is MLB The Show. The PS3 version still has Sounds of the Show, but the PS4 version is a downgrade from the entire last generation of the franchise in that respect. Anything else that aims to use personal soundtracks though, is just a no-go on the PS4 at the moment.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Why not just stream the music via DLNA?
FredEffinChopin
It's not an issue of custom soundtracks while gaming, but of games that utilize the music you have for something other than replacing the existing BGM. For example: MLB The Show (series) - You used to be able to edit and set specific songs to be used when certain batters walk up to the plate, step up to the mound, or hit a home run. The music came through the stadium speakers in those situations, or whenever else you wanted to have music playing during the game, unless you chose to have it play without that filter. It did a lot to incorporate custom material (in the place of a soundtrack of 30 shitty songs) while maintaining the realistic presentation of the game. Rhythm games (Beat Hazard, Symphony, Audiosurf) - These are games that use music as a model for the stages themselves. GTA IV (on PC) - Let you have a station that played your custom music while inserting DJ banter over the ends, and commercials between songs, just like on the other stations. A few of those weren't on PS3, but the possibility of those or others are completely shut off to PS4 in its current state. It's possible that those games can do with the USB stick what MLB The Show 15 can't, but I'm really not sure. Maybe MLB is different because it requires editing and assignment, whereas those other games just load up a song and go. I do know for sure though, that the inability to store music in the HDD really ruined one of my favorite features of the series, and isn't really doing me much else good otherwise.
Mister Jack
That would be great for wrestling games where you can make your own entrance.
FredEffinChopin
Yeah, I'm surprised that I didn't see it in any NHL games I've played either. It might exist in some of the other sport games that involve stadiums, but I have no idea. While I'm not a wrestling fan, I do think that the feature would be uniquely appropriate for it given the emphasis on individuality, and on the personality of the competitors in wrestling/UFC vs. other sports. Mister Jack
Man, it's been so long since I bought a ps4 game that I forgot they added in the standby feature. I know it only saves a couple minutes but it's so cool to boot up my ps4 and go right back to Arkham Knight without having to wait through loading and splash screens.
Thursday Next
Oh my god those loading screens! Died for the first time yesterday. (Was in a tank battle that got verrrrrrrry laggy, not sure why). And the time it took to load into the game. Christ! Glad I can just boot up and pick up where I left off. deanb
So I'm eyeing up the 1TB PS4 coming out next week, comes with a PS TV thrown in too. No games, though I'm looking at Second Son and Typ-0 HD to pack on (plus I guess there's PS+ games too n I might have some stuff that transfers between consoles). All told it'll be about £400 ($600). I do have that cash, esp now the only debts I have are student loans. But throw me your thoughts n suggestions. My main wariness is I am primarily a PC gamer, and a fair chunk that's come out is on PC (and for like half the price). Any UK folks know how often games tend to launch at £40 or below (I see GAME regularly has stuff for £50 which is insane). How'd you find the console. Also PSTV owners wanna just fill in the blanks on my knowledge. I'm to understand it's just a PS Vita in a shell, so I guess if I've picked up any Vita games that's cool. Does it only tie to one PS4? (housemate has one, figure a PS4 in our rooms, and PS TV in the lounge if want to play anything in there). Does it use the expensive PS Vita cards? I guess other bonus is I get a DS4 for PC use, I hear it's pretty good for that. Also what MP games you PS4 players playing?
Thursday Next
- While you may main on PC, there's always Arkham Knight issues to avoid. - There always discounts to be had on console titles. Especially the bigger releases. (You follow SavyGamer so you know this as well as I do). Also free games from PS+. - PSTV uses the Vita memory cards. - The Vita has to be tied to the same account as the console. I'm not sure if there is a hardware limit, but if you aren't sharing a PSN account then chances are you'll have to pick one or t'other. - Not doing much MP at the moment to be fair. deanb
Oh wait another question: PSTV streams for PS3 too? I've popped a question on /r/AskGames about the PSTV + two PS4's thing. Shame about the Vita memory card thing, but maybe they'll go cheap if the Vita is "dying".
Thursday Next
Remote Play only works for some games on PS3 I think.
TheMightyEthan
It only works for the games that you could stream to the regular Vita, so not very many. Also, not ALL Vita games work on the PSTV, though most do. http://www.vitaplayer.co.uk/list-of-playstation-tv-compatible-games/
deanb
So one PS4 purchase later and I have: Infamous: Second Son* Infamous: First Light* Final Fantasy: Type-0 HD* Entwined Flower Driveclub Mousecraft Rocket League Styx And on PSTV: Flower Entwined Geometry Wars Olli Olli Velocity Ultra Worms Revolution And the ones in * are the only ones I've gone out of way to buy. Rest are either things carried over to the PS4 (I think there's a few more than I've listed, I just haven't grabbed them yet), or from first month of PS+, so that's pretty cool. Should keep me going.
TheMightyEthan
Get Destiny! (Once the Taken King comes out. The Taken King + base game and 2 expansions looks like a good deal.)
deanb
Yeah, not super fussed on that one. I had noticed that my bundle could come with Destiny, but I enquired and it was an online only deal (and would still need the expansions). I'm not a Halo person so Bungie don't have the brand loyalty from me to see past their crappy statements of late for Destiny.
Mister Jack
I actually was a Bungie fan back in their Halo days and I still regret Destiny more than any other PS4 game. I wish I could go back in time and unspend that money. Hell, I'd be happy if I could even trade in the game but my dumb ass bought it digitally.
