Playstation 4

I saved a video clip of a Far Cry 4 session I had the other day, then decided to mess around with it in the PS4 SHAREfactory app just to try it out and ended up making this:

Before you say anything, yes I know it isn't very good.  I'm not trying to become the next PewDiePie over here.  Obviously, SHAREfactory isn't going to have tools as robust as the video editing software you can find on the PC, but it can be fun just to dick around and share stuff you make with your friends.

Could be a mistake but PS2 games listed for PS4

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-09-14-pegi-listings-hint-at-ps2-classics-for-playstation-4

TGS is this weekend so maybe something will be announced then.

Theoretically nothing stopping it emulating PS2 or PS1 titles given it's X86 and there's been X86 emulators around for ages and pretty good ones at that. However given even my small library has two "HD Remasters" in I imagine the lack of emulation is probably quite lucrative at the moment. Many PS2 games are well over a decade old at this point, I know there's fans n such but many gamers are happy to play newer stuff (and tbh, going back to the theoretical on PS4 supporting PS2 games in the same reason most PC's support PS2 n PS1 games so there's that).

The big news would be if it supported PS3 games, which is only in its infancy on PC. Though given MS got 360 BC on Xbone there's hope still for PS3 emulation.

Yeah, I was planning to set up a PXOD community as soon as the update hit.

*Edit - Just did it, and invited everyone from here.  If I missed you, well that's your own damn fault for having a different username on PSN.  You should be able to search for Press X or Die though and request to join.

I don't know if anyone else was waiting on the official universal remote, but I just got my hands on mine today, and it's pretty functional. The auto search mode to configure non-PS4 devices seemed to get hung up at the tail end of the process every time, despite seeming to successfully speak to the devices, so I had to plug in codes like a caveman. I suspect it's the remote, and not the devices. A couple of observations:

The remote gives you the option to set the volume buttons to "punch through" and control a specific device, whichever device you have the controller set to control at that moment. What they didn't think to do with this remote is set the "input" button to punch through as well. The PS3 official universal remote did have that functionality, and it's annoying to have lost that. The input button layout is also inferior, sharing the "green" button right in the middle of the remote, as opposed to being near the device and power buttons at the top.

There are 3 programmable buttons: red, blue, and yellow. I haven't had to use them, as the defaults for the codes I settled on seem to cover all the important things. I can't really speak for how well it learns from other remotes.

The idea of raised buttons around the guide circle was doubtless intended to make it more navigable without looking, but so far for me I would say that it does the opposite, making it feel closer to a clump of buttons than a directional circle.

Also in terms of orientation, there is no groove in the back, which I always like having on remotes. It's a bit harder to distinguish where your hand is on the face of a remote without it.

The only real improvement over the PS3 remote, and it's pretty huge: It controls cable boxes. Not so much a huge win for this controller as it was a glaring omission from the old one, but it's good that it was addressed.

That is all. Good remote, though not as well thought-out in areas as the last.

*edit - Oh yeah, and the device buttons are tiny, and don't light up like the ones on the PS3 remote. Aside from not lighting up, they're also very dark-colored, and so are a bit harder to see in dim light.

Maybe in the future, if the studio truly is independent, but it really sounds like this first project is going to be a PS4 exclusive. Sucks but definitely a good catch for Sony.

Now, come on, Sony. You know what the next move is: Get. Del. Toro.

The announcement wording is a bit vague which leaves room for hope. As for Del Toro, that shit is going so happen. Maybe not a horror game, not yet anyways, but the website makes me think giant robots in space. Both dude love giant robots/mechs. Not-Zone of the Enders incoming.

I wonder what will the studio do about a game engine. Not-Zone of the Enders would be a good opporunity to make a new engine or get used to an exisiting engine.

On a completely different note... fuck I could really use a PS4 for Earth Defense Force 4.1. Watching a stream of it is too much. It's a bigger and better EDF 2017, my guilty pleasure!

Kojima, don't forget about the PC market. Sony has a decent relationship with PC so I'm hopeful.

Yeah it'll be a PC release too. Sony specifically said it'll be PS4 "console exclusive". Sony extremely open to PS4/Vita/PC releases at the moment (more so than MS, who you know own both Windows and Xbox...). Sony are giving a pretty big push on No Man's Sky which is coming out for both as an example.
