TCP
BEHOLD! THE CONTROLLER:I'll reseve judgement till we find out if that's the finished model (IGN says yes), and for Sony to demonstrate it. Still better than the boomerang! I have nightmares of them switching the d-pad and left stick around... Those sticks look concaved which is a bit of a surprise as I thought if that was the direction they were going to go, we'd see that on the Vita (and maybe we will on the rumoured HD output compatible Vita). It is more Xboxian in size and shape, which I'm not crazy about as I think the DS3 is the perfect size, but we will see.
Saturnine Tenshi
That looks like something I'd get from Mad Catz (something I wouldn't get).
madbassman39
I like the shape, due to it having more girthy look to it similar to the Xbox controller. The Move bar on the top interests me, but what bothers me is the lack of a start/select button. They are probably going to be in the touch pad, which means that when you have games that require you to use the touch pad for anything your fingers are going to have to be very accurate to touch the start/select buttons if they are present. Its like trying to select your email on your touch phone without actually looking at it, you may get lucky but probably not going to happen unless you look down. I like he location of the PS button though, lower is better, not that the PS3 had a bad location (the Xbox's guide button is too big and in a really bad location). Mister Jack
The sticks seem like an interesting change. Really, the one thing about that PS3 controller I didn't really care for was the analog sticks. Well, that and the L2/R2 triggers, which I can't see very well here. deanb
It seems slightly wider, but other than mostly the same except for the change in thumbstick design which is, as mentioned already, usually the main complaint. Maybe start and select is underneath? Also I guess one question is that grill a mic or a speaker. It's an obvious advancement given Vita, while not being as drastic a change as the Wii U. Though I've a feeling it may end up like Sixaxis tech. But given the prevalence of touchscreen devices and it also being the same style as Ouya controller, it might get a bit more use in the whole ease of porting thing. You could play Temple Run much easier on that controller than a play DS3. edit: Actually zooming in a little bit, the select at least is quite visible (though unlabeled making me think this is a tad more prototypey-devkitey than consumer version will be), I'd assume a Start is in same place but shitty quality image makes it hard to make out the detail. edit2: Well yeah the cable out back would imply prototype dean you silly fool. madbassman39
Are you talking about the button top left? I thought that could be select, but I also thought maybe that is a button for syncing or possibly even a button for the dev kit. IGN assumes thats the share button, but on the Giantbomb they seem to imply that the touch pad is clickable like on the Mac's newer model laptops. Only 1 week and we'll know. TheFlyingGerbil
I can't work out the shoulder buttons. It looks like they're really far to the back of the controller, and I can't see how there would be two of them.
TheMightyEthan
If that's accurate, and they don't have a screen like the Wii U, my interest just dropped somewhat. That off-screen play is fantastic, and I'd really hoped that at least one of Sony and Microsoft would copy it. The ridge around the thumbsticks looks nice, that's my main complaint with the DS3: that my thumbs slide off. I wonder if they'll also fix the fact that the tension is WAY too low on the DS3's sticks, and the deadzone is way too big. As far as the size of the controller, it doesn't matter much to me. Both the 360 controller and the DS3 are comfortable to hold, so whatever.
TheFlyingGerbil
maybe they'll have vita off screen play built into the PS4 hardware so all games automatically support it?
Thursday Next
All I know is, having met the head of SCEE's legal department, I would not have leaked this when Sony clearly wanted maximum impact from their launch. Hogarth Andall is a big, scary guy who could squash you like a bug. Well, that's not "all" I know obviously. But unlike some, I respect NDA's and want to keep my job.

Wait you figured the pad in the middle, that's like an inch big, was going to be a screen like the Wii U? The Wii U gamepad is like 6", 1" is piddly size for a controller. What the touchpad does tell us is that PS Vita however is likely to fill in as a possible second controller like it can do for PS3 (since you'll have a touchpad on both). madbassman39
I was thinking about that as well TN. Also If I was Sony, right now all of those dev kits are manufactured one at a time, manufacturing costs are at an all time high, so whats an extra 60 dollars and make each dev kit unique looking? At least it can throw rumors, and at most a picture like this can identify exactly which company leaked this photo.

TCP
For whatever reason, it looks a lot more sexy from that angle.
Faiblesse Des Sens
You can see the start and select buttons. It's just a way better picture. Handles look a little longer to anyone else?
deanb
There's a 3.5mm jack on the bottom too. Woot! (or at least I'm hoping it's a standard 3.5mm, and knowing Sony it will be, and not a weird 2.5mm thing)
madbassman39
Those are absolutely Start and select buttons (probably going to change for the final product to represent the existing buttons). That makes me excited. FDS the handles do look longer, and thicker, this looks like its going to fit in your hand like a 360 controller more than the way the current Dualshock fits in your hand. UnstableArk
The handles and sticks look like the old Dual-Analog controllers from the original PS. To those who never used that particular controller, it was probably the best ergonomic controller they made. If it's anything like that, that's pretty damn appealing. I also hope the sticks have better tension and higher force...threshold? Whatever the technical term is for the force to activate the click. Waldorf and Statler
If it's anywhere near in size the 360 controller I'm so fucking game. I'd like an angle to view if they fixed the awkward triggers.
CorgiShinobi
I don't know what's planned for the screen given how small it is. other than being allowed to quick select options like Trophies, Friends, and PSN. I like this idea for a controller... but the battery life would be absolutely terrible, unless Sony has some sorcery in their R&D department. I prefer the DualShock 3 over the 360 controller, maybe because I'm a sucker for symmetry. Though, I do like the improvement on Sony's directional buttons as it's more of a pad now. Well, at least in this version of the controller because I'm sure it'll change later.
deanb
It is not a screen. It's a touch pad, like on a laptop, Ouya, Magicmouse etc.
CorgiShinobi
Looks like it has a gloss finish rather than a matte finish like on touch pads. Would having a one inch touch pad have any real technical use? Not arguing whether it is or not, though this all could be false, or a rough dev prototype. The thing is (or how I see it), the Vita has a much larger touch pad, and what controls I've seen for the Vita's touch pad make sense in that your control of the pad represents a significant effect on another screen of roughly the same size. For console games, what could be done? If it did alter something displayed on the television, wouldn't it be rather "touchy" given a little movement on a small pad could represent drastic change on a much larger screen? Or would it require multiple strokes to counteract the size difference to give more precision. EDIT: Basically, where I'm getting at is that while we might have a new technology in/on a controller, of what practical use will it ensure? All DualShock 3 controllers have SixAxis technology, but when was the last time that has been a significant feature for PS3 games? And I realize most of my post is filled with questions, but these are the thoughts coming to mind when I see this controller and read all the "leaked" information. Waldorf and Statler
I'm gonna play around with the new controller but if I can't get used to it or as comfortable with it as I am with the 360's then I'll probably get one of those custom controllers

No, I never thought anything of the sort. Hence my "if that's accurate, and they don't have a screen..." comment. Prior to the photo leaking, I was hoping they'd do something like the Wii U's tablet, because that thing is fantastic.
