Saturnine Tenshi
It's only value in the sense of deals if they give you games or discounts on games that you would have wanted to play without them being free to begin with. The rest is mostly negligible. It's cool that people like it and get something out of it, but as far as I'm concerned it's a waste of money. And regardless of how you look at it, it's a paywall. Â Considering the quality of games this hasn't been a problem. But yes, on PS4 it will be a paywall. I'm still up in the air on that but I also don't plan on getting PS4 on launch to begin with. Saturnine Tenshi
I don't think it's a problem at all (paywall notwithstanding). I like that it's currently entirely optional. Options are good, welcome. And as far as quality is concerned I didn't mean to imply that there aren't or weren't quality games being discounted or free through the service, just that there aren't many that appeal to me. So if it continued to the PS4 in its current state it would be something closer to a paywall that may occasionally have something I'm interested in. Faiblesse Des Sens
Well the choices are certainly broad in appeal and not niche. For most people that's going to be a plus since it's appealing to most people. It would be pretty insane if you could choose what games you wanted. I guess that's almost to the point of having a subscription service ala OnLive/Gaikai. Edited July 18, 2013 by Faiblesse Des Sens
Saturnine Tenshi
I think it'd be nice if they let you choose one game each month from games that released, say, a year earlier. Or whenever it is that games sales tend to really drop. But I don't know that it'd be viable either legally or monetarily.
TheFlyingGerbil
So annoyed right now. Got an email a few days ago saying my plus is about to run out turn on automatic funding and it would auto renew my subscription. It makes it sound like auto renewal is off and I know auto funding is off so I ignore it  as I'd just bought a subscription card that I was going to apply. Come today and another email pops in saying thanks for buying a subscription to plus and it's only gone and taken money out of my account. I am so hacked off. I expected this problem when I had gold but I've never heard anyone mention it with plus so it's just taken £12 out of my account for 3 months plus when my card was only £30 for a year and I've got no money in my account for games. Strangelove
Of course its automatically on. Any subscription program pretty much ever is always on autorenew automatically. Off the top of my head Netflix, Shoprunner, and Amazon Prime do the same thing on mine. You have to disable it yourself. Its a little slimy, but its smart.
Mister Jack
Come to think of it, my Plus subscription was a christmas gift, and I intend to drop hints to have renewals as easy gifts in the years to come, so I'd better turn off automatic too. TheMightyEthan
If you've already got the card you shouldn't have to wait to apply it. Â Just apply it right away and it will tack on to the end. Â *Disclaimer* - I have not actually done this with Plus and cannot 100% swear it will work, but that's my understanding. TheFlyingGerbil
If I'd paid by credit card and it had pre-ticked an autorenew box that's one thing. I used a prepaid voucher code and there was no mention of autorenew anywhere.  They should send you an email saying your subscription is about to expire but don't worry it'll autorenew. they shouldn't send you an email implying you don't have autorenew on.  It's put a sour note on a service I otherwise enjoy.  TME, I would normally have done that but I've not had time to, the email meant I didn't worry about it. CorgiShinobi
Auto renewal will always be turned on when you activate a PS+ subscription. It'll only renew when there are no more allotted months, so technically you can keep piling on months or years thereby extended the time you would have to "renew." For me, it's now set to February 2014 after I added on three months not too long ago. If you have a form of electronic payment tied to your account, it will use that to renew your subscription. Â Other services can be different, i.e. Amazon. I renewed my Prime membership a week ago, but it wanted to use my old card info. Thereby, hey, it couldn't renew properly even though I had added a new form of payment to my account.
TheFlyingGerbil
I can't believe it's even legal to turn something like that on without telling you. What happened to consumer protection.
TheMightyEthan
I'm sure it says it somewhere in the terms of service you agreed to when you signed up.
CorgiShinobi
Well, it does tell you that auto renewal is on when you join or add more months to your subscription. It even tells you where to go in your Account Settings if you want to change it. At least, that's how it has been for me whenever I've renewed and added more months. Â EDIT: So as not to get confused with Ethan's comment, I'm not talking about the Terms of Service. After you've added or renewed, you get a notification. TheFlyingGerbil
the mail they sent telling me my subscription is about to expire (rather than one 3 or 12 months ago) actually implied autorenewal was off. and even if it is in the original email, if they are taking money off you they should be clear and up front about it. I don't think they are.
TheMightyEthan
the mail they sent telling me my subscription is about to expire (rather than one 3 or 12 months ago) actually implied autorenewal was off. Yeah, that's a bunch of bullcrap and they shouldn't do it.
CorgiShinobi
It was implied? Playing devil's advocate here, but usually these things are straight-cut. Copy-pasta the contents of the message, sans personal junk. In my experience, it has been upfront about automatic renewal. Maybe things are different now, don't know other than I know how to turn off these things.
TheFlyingGerbil
Â Straight cut in my mind is: "your membership is about to expire, it is set to auto renew on xx/xx/xxxx" "your membership is about to expire, turn on automatic renewal so you don't have to worry about it" Â When you pay/apply a code it could popup a request offering to turn on auto renewal, if they wanted to be more crafty they could have a pre-ticked box for it on the payment page. It should not be turned on by default, and only mentioned in some obscure place at the bottom of a mile of text. Â Ideally, they wouldn't do anything and just send you an email extolling the virtues of auto renewal. TCP
August PS+ perks are in. Hitman seems cool, I'm excited for Machinarium, which was available for just PS3 a few months ago but I've been holding out for a Vita version.
CorgiShinobi
Well I was wondering last night how Sony/whoever might be able to tell if you have auto-renewal on. The last email I got about my PS+ subscription was a while ago when it told be I renewed for three more months since I left auto-renewal on and it used my saved method of payment. Â It will tell you though, not a mile under some text, once you add more months or renew that you have the auto-renewal feature. Then you go to your Account Settings, look at your different subscription services (you might have a few from games), find PS+ and turn auto-renewal on or off. A lot of subscription based services assume that people will want to continue using the service, so auto-renewal is turned on. They probably do bank on the idea that people will forget about a yearly renewal period, but perhaps you can also demand a refund. Â I did so when years ago my Amazon Prime trial period ended and I saw $80 went to Amazon. Auto-renewal was left on and I didn't realize. It was either through the website or calling Customer Support (I forget), but I remember getting my money back. Of course, that was Amazon and I don't know how Sony treats payments for the PS+ subscription service. There has to be a protocol for it though because this kinda thing has to happen a lot with auto-renewal.

Eleven
Anyone know why I can't buy some of the free games PS+ offers? Like right now it says I'm not eligible for Hitman Absolution Special Edition or Dokuro for PS Vita, whenever I try to put it in my cart. Â I just want to buy them then never play them ever. But it's not letting me! Edited August 23, 2013 by eleven
