I did not know that.  Interesting.

My town was dry until about 10 years ago, but that just meant you had to drive to the next town over, which is only 10 minutes away, and it was only sale that was illegal, not possession/consumption.

The only experience I have is entering a few dry stores, not so much the county. I think it was more so to curb the tendency of individuals treating the gas station and convenience store as outdoor drunken gatherings. Usually with places where small stores are a good distance from the homes because their focus is on travelers. It's why you'll still see some drive-thru liquor stores off rural roads.

While California has its own share of problems (some serious ones...), alcohol isn't one of them. I can get beer or whatever at most stores that carries food. I want a bottle of whiskey or vodka at Walgreens or CVS? I can and oddly, it can be the cheapest place to get them. Beer everywhere, even at the liquor stores.

God I hate NYC... beer is actually kind of hard to find but on the flip side, the bottle stores are AMAZING. They might not be cheap but god damn, their selections.

Then we get whole states like Pennsylvania or, I think, West Virginia. Nightmare mode. 2x price for the same alcohol from across the state line. While most cops don't care (unless you are a business owner), you can get nailed for bringing in any alcohol from across state lines.

I wouldn't call it hard to find but it is in less places than in California. It, especially selection, also depends on the area I think. Then again I don't think I've spent enough time in NYC as 21+ to get a real feel of availability. It's my general impression.  One thing though: NYC got the advantage of the easy of getting around. Bottle shops, bars and such are only a subway and/or bus ride away. If only LA got a decent public transit, my life going car-less would be easier.

Nice knowing you all unless California truly adopts the true reality. Decades long dry periods is not unheard of. With that said, LA and surrounding areas should really encourage people to ditch their pools and grass lawns. Paltry to the water usage of agriculture but we might be to the point were we are pinching pennies.

As a side note: Today I powered through 3-4 liters of water on a relatively simple hike through faults and shit. I felt great in the 95 degree heat and after a 4 hour sleep (Rise at 5, end at 5). So this is what being hydrated feels like.

Holy shit. You're telling me if I ever have kid(s) that I can send them to Stanford? Of course, applicants will have to still make the grade to get accepted.

people are throwing stones at this whole riot thing in Baltimore

Too soon, MBM, too soon.

I generally prefer to engage sensitive topics anonymously. Not that people are any less narrow minded, brutal, or disingenuous under that cover (their behavior can often be worse), but at least you can have a disagreement with someone without it leading to bad blood when people discover that casual acquaintances hold some pretty repugnant views. I also like that people can feel free to be completely honest, ugly as that might be at times.

That being said, I don't feel the need to have any semi public conversations on Facebook at all, and am generally opposed to giving them my traffic if I can avoid it, so I guess my position is sort of worthless in this context.

But yeah, shit has gotten ugly and it doesn't seem like anyone is going to change their general stance on the topic any time soon, not through discourse or demonstration. Hopefully legislation of some sort can go for the knees and just change the dynamic in the street. I have high hopes for body cameras, personally.

The governor of Texas has ordered the Texas National Guard to monitor a US Army training exercise due to internet rumors that it's a cover for a military takeover of Texas, because everyone is completely fucking insane.

The Ant-Christ has finally come to  take away their tiny freedoms! guns! freedom-guns!

As a Texan, we think Oklahoma is kinda gay.

As a Kansan, Oklahoma is that place with all the red dirt and shitty roads.  Nebraska is the place with all the corn and shitty roads.  Missouri is the place with all the porn billboards (that's why it's the "Show Me" state) and shitty roads.  Colorado's the place with the mountains and kinda shitty roads.
