Mr. GOH!
That should change sooner rather than later, FG. It will take a series of court cases, but the ruling that SSM is constitutionally protected will go far in the fight to outlaw discrimination. Alex Heat
I agree with Mr. GOH. Today has been a day where my desire to bathe in the tears of whiny babies has been fulfilled for the next several years. The sheer number of people claiming that they're moving to Canada has also been a delicious sight.

TheRevanchist
It amazes me how neither party can pull their heads out of their asses to do some good for a change. A nuclear deal with Iran is a great start. The water bill that sits in the Senate would be a nice thing to see pass. The politics that are involved are the reason dipshits like Trump keep gaining support.
Mr. GOH!
Dipshits like Trump have support because much of America is populated by dipshits. The water bill is a Trojan Horse and would not be much help at all and would unnecessarily harm fisheries. The GOP likes it because certain provisions of no real use to water-hungry California would further disempower the EPA. I'm not certain much can be done at the federal level to really help California in the short term, to be fair. The drought is a byproduct of human short-sighted water policies throughout the Southwest over the past century, global climate change, and bad luck. It's tough to unfuck yourself once you've been thoroughly fucked. I do hope the rest of the nation wakes up and realizes that we need to be better stewards of our resources so we can minimize the harm of future disasters.
deanb
I thought my housemate was joking the other day when he said Trump was at the top of polls. From an outside perspective he's like a fucking walking car wreck. Cameron may be quite a dick, but he's at least not a moron to boot.
FredEffinChopin
Reagan works in mysterious ways. You just need to give his policies a chance to set in.
Mal
I'm not certain much can be done at the federal level to really help California in the short term, to be fair. The drought is a byproduct of human short-sighted water policies throughout the Southwest over the past century, global climate change, and bad luck. It's tough to unfuck yourself once you've been thoroughly fucked. I do hope the rest of the nation wakes up and realizes that we need to be better stewards of our resources so we can minimize the harm of future disasters. You can't exactly fight and conquer nature, you can only dance with it the best you can. Any short term help is just that, short term. Long term, I just don't see any short term fixes being any help. Industries that uses ton of water (e.g., Agriculture) is going to get hit hard with some small relief every so often. The trend is still a drier future. The economies of the Southwest has to be flexible, to say the least. What can't be flexible is human needs. Securing water for consumption, hygiene and a bit of extra (e.g., small garden, hobbies and cleaning) will go a long way to make sure people stay put if their industries doesn't necessarily rely on water. It be quite the thing to see a ghost city. If local, state and the federal government can get together to keep the Mississippi River from changing course, which can leave many ports and cities high and dry, then they can at least try to manage the above. Or they do not try and we can see the greatest and slowest* shitshow that dwarf the one that happened with Katrina*. ... Yeah, I'm cynical as fuck with regards to this topic. I don't envy our children. There is a good chance that we (you and I) will pass before the real interesting stuff happens. They will hate the condition the world is in that we and those before us left them with. At this point, we (as a country and humanity really) just got to take the hit and hope we are flexible enough to have a decent lives (i.e., a stable world). Hopefully, as you said GOH, people start to realize that this is no joke. To be honest, one major reason why I don't want kids is I don't want them to deal with the consequences of our inaction. *When compared to other natural disasters. This drought situation is a slow burner compared to a quick earthquake/tornado or a couple days long hurricane.
Thursday Next
Not sure if Trump belongs in US Politics or Weird and Wonderful Web. The guy is a lunatic. I mean I don't really get why being a "war hero" is a good reason to elect someone to be in charge of a country, I think it's a rather American thing. But even *I* know that you don't take a pot shot at a guy who was a POW for being "not good at the war thing" while I was busy working my way up from Son of Millionaire" to "Millionaire". That's just silly. You might as well sit there and say "I think it's time we put this whole 'God' thing out with the tarot cards and horoscopes."
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, what I said to my wife about that was that I really don't give a shit whether McCain is couriered a war hero or not, but saying that being captured disqualifies you is kind of an asshole position, and isn't going to win him any points.
deanb
Yeah I'm not one for glorification of soldiers but insulting POWs is a pretty shitty thing to do.
Thursday Next
Beyond the fact that it is a shitty thing to say in general. As someone who does not live in the US, I know that "war heroes" are virtually deified, someone who grew up there must be aware that public sentiment to war vets is overall positive. If you're running for office you should at the very least have the common sense and self restraint to hide your disdain. It's not the nastiness of the comment that gets me, it's the incompetence that led him to air that opinion in public. TheRevanchist
For those who want some good entertainment, come watch Fox News tonight for some racist/sexist/bullshit debate on TV. There are various drinking games out there, but there are also a ton of warnings on social media that drinking games happening during this debate could be fatal. Have fun listening to the biggest bunch of blowhards you've ever seen in one room!

FredEffinChopin
I'm watching the decidedly (by Fox) miscellaneous and irrelevant candidates go at it right now. I came in a little late, but nothing unexpected or terribly interesting has happened to this point. There are times I have to remind myself that they aren't looking forward to running against Obama. Faiblesse Des Sens
My favorite comment that I've seen for this: "Second Amendment Outguns First in Area Standoff" Going back to the Sandy Hook thing it's true that we don't even have to cite anything recent anymore. Stuff like this out there: http://www.theonion.com/article/no-way-to-prevent-this-says-only-nation-where-this-36131 A lot of people get it. Though a lot of us understand that this will lead to the 2nd American Civil War. But hey, I loved the comic DMZ, so bring it on!
