TheMightyEthan
Well if you're just getting a job out of high school then most employers don't give two shits what your grades were, and colleges/universities are all ranked so that gives them a way to weight various grades from various schools (like maybe a C from MIT is better than an A at Podunk Tech). Also, what's a CV? You've mentioned it before. Is it like a resume?

deanb
http://www.theindychannel.com/news/31224633/detail.html Why are the TSA still around? There's a ton of horror stories about them, and as far as I'm to understand they've not stopped a single terrorist attempt, all the while costing millions of not billions in their operation (and probably even more in delays and other secondary expenses of their operation). Mal
I'll be honest. If some did that to any of my family's remains, they will be at risk of getting killed by me. Disrepect the dead which will get you on my shit list. Disrespect my family will get you on my shit list. Do both and you better get away ASAP. Extreme? Yeah. However I question the source on how exactly it played out. Not saying that the TSA isn't a scumbag, worthless agency though. 9/11 style attack will not happen in the US for our remaining lifetime since we'll fight tooth and nail like Flight 93. So melee weapons are not a concern. It is reasonable to look for explosive though but like hell the TSA can do anything complex like that. They have to be put under new leadership or scrapped all together. Need to dog up and hog up...

deanb
Oh that he's a crazy religious nut has been known for sometime. I'm to understand it's a bit of a tug-o-war between Bruce Lee n Liam Neeson, given Neeson is alive n currently active he seems to be winning as next bad ass. Also I think the whole "Gays in the boy scouts" has been going on a bit longer than Obamas administration. (Never mind Baden Powell was reckoned to be gay too.) Battra92
George Takai really pisses me off. He's not funny and yet a ton of my friends repost his shit on Facebook. The administration has no right telling a private organization (one with a strong religious influence at that) what to do. Except they routinely do that when it comes to things that don't fit its agenda. People said Nixon was dictatorial but he ain't got nothing on the dictator in the white house. Also, it'll be interesting to see how the censure vote on Eric Holder for Fast and Furious goes down. Apparently quite a few Dems are getting behind it as well. Of course, no one will ever see jail time but it's sickening that we can't get to the bottom of things.

TheMightyEthan
*makes a mental note to buy more Oreos I find George Takei quite amusing. Re this administration: Yeah, Obama lost my vote with the 2011 DAA. Though I'd still rather have him that Romney (I at least agree with Obama on a lot of social issues, and don't for one second believe Romney would be any better about the police-state stuff), I cannot in good conscience vote for him. deanb
Huge religious influence? Tying knots is fun sure but not enough to make you believe in a higher power. (Also it's at most an allegation by a retired actor,t hough I guess you made your up on what the dictator was doing pretty quickly) Seen the oreo cookie about. Some people will find themselves with less n less to buy if they keep up with their attitudes. Besides, multi flavoured cream filling, what's not to like. Battra92
I'm boycotting Oreos and Girl Scout cookies: not because of the whole gay stuff but because they are both nasty, especially the Crisco sandwiches that people seem to like. Bletch! If you must eat Oreos, at least make your own: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/faux-reos-recipe I know I'm a food snob but with very few exceptions (good shortbread and Danish butter cookies) I can bake better cookies at home. I will farm out my cracker baking to Nabisco because I've never been able to make saltines right (and they should be super simple!) Now these look more appetizing than a fat multi-colored Oreo. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
The Scouts, Girl or Boy, have always been run by insensitive fucks, like the people that kicked that transgendered girl out of the Scouts. Part of me would be fine if they kept disallowing LGBT people in their little hate group; it'll die faster, and their irrelevance in the modern world would be further cemented. However, it just isn't fair to the children. I'd hate to be the parent that has to explain to their child they can't go camping with their friends because it's run by a bunch of idiots who hate other human beings for completely ridiculous reasons. EDIT: Got my facts wrong, Girl Scouts are much more tolerant. Good on Girl Scouts, but Boy Scouts are still garbage. I thought it was a single scout troop that allowed an LGBT member in, and then the rest of the Girl Scout troops disavowed it. EDIT: No, wait, got my facts wrong, never mind. Sorry. TheMightyEthan
I'm actually torn on the issue. I like what the law does, but I don't agree with the court's reasoning, and I think it probably should have been ruled unconstitutional.
TheMightyEthan
And for the non-americans? Short version is the health care law passed a couple years ago included a provision referred to as the "individual mandate" which requires everyone to buy health insurance (exceptions made for those who can't afford to, etc etc), the idea being that if you force everyone to buy it then young healthy people who don't normally do so will be added to the insurance companies' groups, lessening the overall risk, which would allow them to lower costs. It was challenged on the basis that the government doesn't have the authority to compel a private citizen to buy a product from another private citizen, but was upheld on the theory that it's a de facto tax and the government does have the authority to tax. Way over simplified, but there you go. *Edit* - Correct, there's actually a tax penalty for not buying insurance. So the court basically said that the government can't force you to buy a product, but they can tax you if you don't. It's an extremely technical legal argument, and it still seems like splitting hairs to me, but I no longer think the decision was wrong per se... Battra92
FUCK YEAH PARTY TIME. For the first time in YEARS, I am proud to be American. Moo-Chelle Obama, is that you? The election is now about Obamacare. Romney and Republicans will hit hard on Obamacare from now until November. Obamacare is still massively unpopular, especially among independents. If Republicans are smart they will hammer on the job killing aspects of the bill (increased taxes, huge government spending etc.) as well as increasing our costs on healthcare (I've seen mine go up quite a bit since Obamacare was signed) as well as all the people whose employers will drop their coverage because paying the tax/fine will be cheaper than covering healthcare. A grim day for Liberty.
Popular Post Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Moo-Chelle Obama, is that you? Oh yeah, I TOTALLY go for whatever the president does, despite still being absolutely pissed by the unmanned drone laws. You're free to say you don't care for the health care plan passing, but I am not some sheep that simply accepts whatever the Democrats say. My arguments can't just be written off as bleeding heart liberal garbage, because I do not side with either party. The party system is SILLY. I'm simply voicing my support for many Democrat policies recently because most of them aren't insane ramblings of a generation too selfish to let anything change for the better, and who falsely believe that ANY time was better than the present.
Mal
I love how some folks are fear mongering, especially with the folks who go on and say stuff like "Things will never be the same!". Things can be readjusted. Just watch and see how and if things will truly pan out with this. If shit absolutely hits the fan, steps can be made to revert and change the changes to better suit our needs. Trial and error. Just to let you folks know, I don't agree with some of the stuff and their implicatons.
MasterDex
The party system is SILLY. It's so nice hearing an American say that. I'm going to come across as arrogant here but fuck it, it's not often I go full-on. The party system, never mind a bipartisan system, is the most idiotic practice in democracy and the people that stick to a single party are idiotic as well. A well-run democratic government should not give parties power. Political parties, by their nature, create bias that has no place in a democratic government. A true democratic government would elect individuals to fulfil each important role, with lesser roles opened to the public so the best people for the job get it. In terms of Ireland, this would mean each minister is appointed by the people, not the party that won the vote. As far as Obamacare goes, I'm not sure what I think of it now. Back when it was first introduced, it sounded alright but the ensuing party politics seemed to mess things up. At that point, I just tuned it out so I have no idea how it looks now.
