Because it's wrong! And forbidden!

Also: so I take it I'm the only one on the forum that's been arrested? That's surprising/disappointing.

But from my experience: cops are dicks.

Sadly no, I've been arrested for computer crime. It was terrifying, though admittedly the police themselves where discrete and courteous. I guess a barely mobile guy with a cane who needs help standing up is hardly threatening. I'm currently not allowed to own a computer under bail conditions, hense using a Wii U here.

All I'll say is this, being bored, frustrated, and in pain is not a defense for a crime. It made me feel capable at a time when I was losing my independence... I feel very stupid though.

Nah, I've been arrested twice.  Both while I was under 18.

First time was when I was 13-14 and my sister started a physical fight with me because...I ate some Snack Packs that my mom had bought us.  Being a drama queen who doesn't think shit through, once I got the upper hand in the fight, she threatened to call the police while I was pretty content to just have here go away and leave me alone.  She still called the police...who took us both to juvie.

Second time was when I was barely 17.  My mom had designated times in which the two of us could be using the internet since we only had one computer at the time.  My time was between noon and midnight while hers was between midnight and noon.  Sure enough, she eventually tried to muscle me out of the desk during the afternoon in that way only siblings know how to do (trying to gradually shove me out of the chair).  When I wouldn't budge, she escalated it to a physical fight again.  And much like before, once I had her in a headlock, I told her to get outta my face and go do something else.  And again, she threatened to and actually did call the police.  Only this time it was worse because she was pregnant at the time.

You can probably guess whose word they took.

Three days in juvie, got to see a judge...who turned out to be a misandrist who spent a few minutes dressing me down and making vague threats about me being tried as an adult and getting sent to prison before I was escorted back to my cell.  Four days later, I got to go home.

Haven't forgiven my sister for it and never once has she apologized in any fashion.

Mine was laughably light-- the public defender actually laughed and asked "who the fuck pursues this" when he went over it.

When I was arrested I had enough cash on me for bail and my plea bargain was 6 months *unsupervised* probation, a fine and it was expunged from my record. I never made it past booking area.

It stemmed from a thing just after I was 18, and arrested at 20, just shy of the statute of limitation.

And as per cops: yeah. Typically pricks. I've been pulled over just because I was out late, a light was "too yellow", had a cop pull a u turn and follow me 2 miles to my driveway, told a car that matched my description was at a drug house and insisted they search my car when I was on my way to work, had a flashlight shone in my face and told my eyes were red ("maybe because there's a bright light being shone in them at the moment, officer.") I've had a friend get a gun pulled on him during a traffic stop before he even did anything... Like he was pulled over (during a snowstorm) and the officer came out of his car gun drawn.

Even hearing stories my father in law has (retired PD)--- cops are bastards.

And I'm white. Don't even get me started on the stuff that's happened to friends and acquaintances that are pocs.

Eh, never been arrested, but have met with cops because of family and friends.

People tell me it's because I'm white, but I've never been given a reason yet to hate cops. Never lived in a big city, so perhaps that's why, though I'm told a previous county sheriff was rather a douchebag. The friends that have had trouble with cops usually were involved in something that warranted law enforcement. I'm talking illegal substance abuse to attempted murder, so can't say I would have liked to been there to give a fair assessment.

I know a cop who sort of brags of taking things a bit too far (shit like slamming a guy onto the ground harder than needs be) but not far enough to get in trouble. He's only in there for the pension he'll get when he retires decades down the line. With that said, he's not the type you would like interacting with so there is that. My personal interactions are mostly traffic stops; no arrests. I see the stops as just plain old business so those interactions are short and nice enough for these sort of things. Taking a cue from my food service industry experience... I treat assholes like people even if they are the biggest dicks. The goal here is to make non-assholes to remain non-assholes and keep yourself in the clear with the assholes.

It's working so far but then again it might be because I'm Asian. Yay "ideal minority"?

Yeah, in my experience usually when cops are jerks (even when they're overreacting) it's because the person they're dealing with was being a jerk.  Usually if you act courteous they'll act courteous to you.  This is obviously just a generalization though, and sure some people, including some cops, are just dicks.

I think it also has to do with the area you're in.  Not necessarily big city/small town or anything like that, just that each department kind of develops its own culture, and so some of them are nicer than others.

So the Fergusson thing...

A few days ago the Missouri State Highway Patrol took over command of crowd control during the protests, and for the first night things went really smoothly: the police really scaled back their response (not having armored fighting vehicles right there in view of the crowds, for one thing) and the crowds were peaceful.  Well then the last couple nights the shit hit the fan again, and now the Governor has ordered in the national guard to maintain order.

Sigh.

*Edit* - Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the US DoJ autopsy of Brown revealed that he was shot at least six times from some distance away, which conflicts with the officer's story that Brown was reaching into his patrol vehicle and struggling for the gun at the time of the shooting.  Brown's friend and another witness said that the officer had reached out of the patrol vehicle and grabbed Brown, and that Brown had his hands up and was trying to get away at the time he was shot.

autopsy shows no shots from behind as well.  Showed one bullet created 5 wounds.  5 goddamn wounds.  and a shot went in the top of his head, as if his head was down.  article I read also said they'd have to test clothes for residue to see for sure how close range the shots were, which he wasn't given.  Made me sick as a father, son, brother, human.

and sending in the National Guard just seems like the worst idea possible at this moment.

"The bullets did not appear to have been shot from very close range because no gunpowder was present on his body. However, that determination could change if it turns out that there is gunshot residue on Mr. Brown’s clothing, to which Dr. Baden did not have access."

pretty much the same.

"If they had exercised proper safety precautions this tragedy would never have happened."

I don't know if they've specifically said that in this case, but I'm confident something along those lines would be the response.

That idiot Darwin himself. He JUST taught the girl proper shooting stance with only one go with the Uzi. Muzzle climb can happen with semi autos to unprepared adults. Tossing a fully automatic Uzi to a 9 year old is just plain retarded.

I feel terrible for the girl.
