MetalCaveman
National coverage of this has been interesting, they've been talking a lot about how surprising it was that the latino votes went (according to their stats) 63% Clinton 27% Trump, with the remaining 10% undecided, though they did mention that it is unknown how many people actually went and voted vs how many stayed home, this is interesting and sparked some (heated) discussions about who these people are and why would they vote that way considering the implications of choosing that man. Coverage has been going all day, though some people insist that we shouldn't care as we can't do anything, others have mentioned that due to the implications this election holds for our country, we should pay close attention. Hell of a day.
Mal
Let me just say this. Fuck We did a Brexit. I just don't think Hillary can come back. Donald just need one or two more states. Hillary need them all. Edit: Hillary isn't conceding tonight. This shit might get drawn out but I think the numbers are true for a president Trump. Edit2: Drunk as fuck and processing this results does not mix. I thought I would handle this better but no. But as Obama said, for all his faults, the sun will rise tomorrow. I believe in democracy. I believe in America. We can fix this mess. As with my philosophy in life, one step at a time even if it means backtracking. You got to move forward. You got to swing. You got to TRY. President Trump and Trump's Administration, show me what you got. Edit3: Thank god for auto correct. Edited November 9, 2016 by Mal
danielpholt
America has made their decision, it's time to accept that and see just how Trump and the larger Republican party handle the next 4 years. Will it be as bad as we fear? Probably not, but I'm sure it's going to be a rather large backwards step for a nation that the whole world looks too.
Mr. GOH!
It will be very very bad.
deanb
Hooray for President Fart. And hooray for Johnsons and Stien voters. Those people that didn't want to listen when told it's a two party system in the US and you may as well not vote.
TheMightyEthan
Voting for a 3rd party is slightly better than not voting. Not voting says you didn't care enough to get out and vote, so you're irrelevant. Voting for a 3rd party says you cared enough but that the two major parties are leaving you out, so you're a potential person to be won over. Mal
Britain, thanks for giving birth to such an idea: Calexit Not going to happen (it's reactionary and idiotic but shit, president Trump happened so...) but the West Coast is just plain not going to get along with Washington DC with Trump and Republican Congress. TheMightyEthan
On the bright side there's talk Trump might nominate Governor Brownback as Agriculture Secretary. He's a terrible governor for a lot of reasons, but has actually been really good about trying to establish Kansas as a center for agricultural biotech and has also been big on water conservation, so I'd have no problem with him being Ag Secretary and it would get him away from here to stop him fucking the place up any more.
Mal
If he can stop the folks in the Central Valley from saying that the drought is caused by Congress/Sacramento that would be great. I doubt he will though if he is really about water conservation. What's his stance on protecting wetlands (e.g., Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta)? Water that could be used for Ag goes into there to keep it alive. If the folks in the Central Valley have their way, it would turn into the Colorado River delta (it's pretty beat up). There's a lot of reasons for keeping the delta happy besides wildlife and one of them is keeping the brackish to sea water from getting into the Central Valley via groundwater pathways. It's getting harder to keep it up since the sea level is rising but I bet most of Trump's administration are climate change denialists. Seriously, what Trump want to do to environmental protection regulations and agencies is worrying. He got the power of executive order and a Congress who would be fine and may be happy to go along with it. And the funny thing is... it might create a job for me. At great costs but it's a well paying job. Ay caramba. Until AG Giuliani sends in the stormtroopers to stop legal weed sales. But that's against the idea of small government and state's rights... And it worries me that that senile old bag of bones is said to be Trump's AG.
TheMightyEthan
I have no idea what Brownback's stance on wetlands is, we don't really have those here.

Mal
With this, I think I'm done thinking about this election's result and implications. I need to gear myself for his presidency and perhaps brace for my encounter of the first openly racist twat in my 27 years. Edit: Eh... pictures are nice. I find his general demeanor after winning fascinating and frightening. Edited November 11, 2016 by Mal

deanb
That second photo is like a "Where's Wally" of find the black dude. I see folks retweeting Ann Coulters tweet about the last time republicans held all three branches was also when the Great Depression happened. I think the glaring differences between Trump and Obama are likely to arise after the first mass shooting of his presidency. Which I'd guess is the one thing Obama isn't going to miss doing in his presidency. In fact Obamas post-presidential career will be interesting to see. I'd guess he won't be diving back into being a senator again, but probably aiming for some campaigning on causes n such.

Thursday Next
I really don't get this stuff... https://twitter.com/TheGingerarchy/status/796728898646056960 You register to vote, get up, get ready, get your ID, get to the polling station, then, even though you clearly have a preferred candidate with a real chance of winning you do some dumb shit like this. Why bother with all the effort at the start to bin your vote on a joke? And then having done that, why blame anyone but yourself? TheMightyEthan
People are idiots. *Edit - Though to be fair, because of the electoral college your vote only counts in certain states. For instance, Kansas was going red no matter what, so it didn't matter what I voted. Edited November 11, 2016 by TheMightyEthan

Thursday Next
My bad, there was a space at the end of the link. Works now. Yeah, that was what I meant with "candidate with a chance of winning". Though I do find the defeatist attitude a bit weird. I mean how do you know there aren't millions of people in the state that are all saying "I'm not going to bother voting Blue, this is a Red state." and if they did bother would totally change it? Especially when half the electorate don't even turn up. That's huge potential for changing your state's colour.
TheMightyEthan
There may well be such people, but my vote won't change what they do. Anyway, I did vote for Hillary.
Thursday Next
But if say half the people who thought like that voted, you'd see a much closer run in the race, which might inspire half of the remaining defeatists to vote which would flip the state. I just think that "It's not going to change anything." is a dumb reason to not vote. Especially when non voters make up almost half the electorate.
