And now a politics post!

This article in the Washington Post in emblematic of the corruption of the Trump administration if Trump does not sell off his business assets and put the proceeds in a real blind trust untouched by friends or family. Trump will certainly be running the country like a business, as he promised. He just omitted that he will run it as a sole proprietorship for his benefit alone.

Ah yes, the 28th Amendment to change the name from "United States of America" to "Trump Country".

Seriously, how is it not a requirement to put assets in a blind trust? Or is it just a case of in the past folks have done it anyway so there was no need to put it into law to require it. There was another article I saw up on Twitter that pointed out how due to the international nature of his business and investments into it then that'd surely impact his decisions to carry out say his trade restrictions on China where a bunch of his shit is made, or blocking off mexico, where a bunch of his shit is made, or propping up int'l banks that might be invested in his companies.

It strikes me as a little odd that there are people who did not see this coming or did and just didn't care.

Like, there are people so stupid that they'll fall for this Crooked Hillary crap when it's pretty clear that Trump is far, far worse and has never done any form of public service (quite the opposite, in fact). Even if the Clinton Foundation felt like "pay to play" or whatever, Trump was never going to drain the swamp.

On the other hand, you have the GOP who clearly didn't mind Trump continuing his course because either a) if he'd lost they could hope to brush it all side as an anomaly or b) the win meant they could sneak everything they wanted through and then rely on impeachment or just sheer ineptitude/frustration to remove Trump from the presidency. It's pretty clear that Trump is such a stupid, vain, petty man that the right people behind the scenes have been able to manipulate him enough to get their way and just leave him to do his thing.

At the end of the day, Trump just wants to be able to say he was President and look out for his own greedy, self-serving interests. I seriously think something needs to be done to stop this shit show before it really gets going.

I'm putting this here cos your president-elect cares more about him than we do:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38060434

Trump has suggested Farage should be the UK ambassador. Now ignoring the fact that Farage is a bit of a shithead, the whole point of an ambassador is we get to pick who we send, not the country we're ambassadoring with.

He's not even president yet and he's shitting over pretty much every single diplomatic protocol ever created. Having his wife in on a chat over the phone with Argentinian president, having foreign diplomats stay in his hotel, etc. As article notes it immediately fucks up the relationship with UK since it ignores our current ambassador who is meant to be chatting with Trump & co, and shows a lack of care for the opinion of our current elected government.

In other news I think you guys should really be taught a lot more about European history in Early C20th. Mainly that it wasn't the rise of the "alt-right" in Germany.

For real though... "Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag - if they do, there must be consequences - perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!"

And Ethan is worried about some speakers on CCTV Cameras in Bristol. ;)

At this point, when he's only President-elect, I think Trump is just stirring shit up to distract from the very real issues he has (e.g., tons of points of conflict of interests, not fulfilling promises like draining the swamp). He's just going to get louder and more erratic.

  • 2 weeks later...

So totally surprising us all, Russia has been involved in getting Trump elected. Feels a bit of a "no shit", especially with how Wikileaks have been the last few months. In other news Trump is apparently passing on daily intelligence briefings as he's a "smart guy". I...I'm not sure he knows what intelligence briefings are for.

I feel that his thoughts only work in segments of 140 characters or less. Like you could give him a presidential blog or something and it'd still be a string of short posts.

Kinda bummed that we could end up with a major diplomatic issue (e.g China sending nuclear bombers for a fly by along south east asia) caused by his terrible twitter habits.

Practical consequences aside (I know that's a gigantic thing to put aside...) I'm actually kind of on board with getting rid of the one China policy.  I think it's shitty that we pretend Taiwan isn't independent, or doesn't deserve independence, just because we don't want to irritate the China.  Let them throw a tantrum, I don't think they'll actually want to go to war over it.  (I obviously don't have access to intelligence briefings.  If the consensus of people in the know is that China would actually go to war over it then I retract this, because that is not a consequence I'm willing to put aside.)

*Edit - All of that said I have no illusions that Trump is doing anything for ideological reasons, he just does whatever comes to mind with no consideration at all and then his pride doesn't allow him to back down once he's done it.  But still, even a loose cannon will occasionally shoot in the right direction.

Would rather that they focused on recognising a Palestinian state, correcting the errors of 70 odd years ago, and then sort remind Russia where its borders actually are than upset a whole new apple cart. I wouldn't be surprised to see the progress in the middle east collapse entirely under Trumps tenure though.

Taiwan and Tibet and the South China sea while not great situations are at least relatively stable ones.
