So the field has narrows to Warren, Sanders, Biden and Bloomberg just before Super Tuesday.

Warren is the most interesting one to watch since she's seems to be ever morphing. Unless she truly believes in her own vision and keeps trucking it, as much as I hate to say, I wouldn't be surprised if she throws her hat in with Biden after tomorrow.

If that happens, it'd be interesting to see state and local officials endorse who, especially those that endorse Warren.

You know... I consciously never had a thought that the US federal response to SARSCov-19/COVID-19 would be this bad. Yes, my expectations were low, pessimistically so. I just wasn't pessimistic enough. We had a month or two to prepare. We practically did nothing. We have the potential to match South Korea's response but we followed Italy's blunder. We had always kind of known but: Make America Great Again? My ass.

And l'll admit that this is peeving me far more than most of what the Trump administration did due to it's potential to harm my family and love ones. Almost going to war with Iran is similar (a few family members are in the military).

Statistically it is but guaranteed that at least two adults in my life, likely more due to their age and underlying health conditions, will be in the hospital if they all show sign of infection.

Now for a thought that never crossed my mind: the government is majority or is wholy responsible for the harm of my family.

What a sick joke.

So everything is getting cancelled over COVID-19 now. Can't get toilet paper easily in my state where there hasn't even been a confirmed case of COVID-19. The coworker I was joking about before? He hasn't been in the last 10 days, so there's this assumption he's "self-confining." I recently got sick over the past weekend (probably from coworker) and I was getting over my sickness on Monday

I could feel the paranoia around me when I would cough. Yeah, normally that's true for any illness, and I would have loved to stay home, but I'm hourly with no sick leave available to me. Ergo, I have to suck it up unless I know I'd be useless or possibly get myself physically hurt. We've had talks about it being okay to stay home, but most employees still get paid while they cough and sneeze in bed.

During this whole week, we've received dozens of emails about COVID-19 and as more and more places shut down or events get canceled, the more people have been freaking out and clean everything they touch. I saw someone give the soda vending machine a full wipe down the other day. I know viruses like this can be very harmful as my sister suffered from a terrible infection due to H1N1 back then. I just can't help but scoff at how overblown some of this is from the domino effect of constant emails and news articles on closures, cancelations, or whatever else just isn't happening anymore.

I have a jury trial coming up not this Tuesday but the next, and we're wondering if will have to be postponed. Our judge said he would prefer not to, but if there's a presumptive case in our county, or if the governor declares a state of emergency (which there's rumors that she will) then he said he feels like he has to.

Plenty of toilet paper in our stores though.

So I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I work at a college. At the end of the day today it was announced all our courses were going online. There's literally a line in the official announcement that says for students not to return after Spring Break. There is no word on when on-campus classes or activities will resume...

And then not too long after that my church announced all meetings would be suspended until further notice.

If anything this whole crisis is really hanging a lampshade on our desperate need to establish guaranteed paid sick leave for hourly employees. I can't even blame folks who work hourly and choose to go to work while sick because bills gotta be paid so at the end of the day it's gonna be either you or them.

I have a jury trial scheduled to start on the 23rd, yesterday our judge said he was still planning to go ahead unless we get a case in the county, or the governor declares a state of emergency.

Last night the first person in the state died from it, and the governor declared a state of emergency.

Our final pretrial conference is in about half an hour, so I guess I'll find out what we're going to do. Ordinarily I wouldn't be horribly opposed to rescheduling it, but this is a child abuse case, and I have four doctors from out of town scheduled to come down to testify, and rescheduling with them is going to be a nightmare. Although I suppose even if we didn't reschedule the trial there's a good chance they will become unavailable anyway...

You know, my work requires a lot of travel. I feel like I should just not work but clients are expecting us to be monitoring and my family needs all the money we can get before the hammer comes down. I'm so conflicted and feels powerless by being tugged by two polar opposite necessities. I have bought stuff to make noodle soups in my hotel room so I can limit contact with people and well... limit contact with potential irrational and/or total racist asses.

This is tiring.

Edit: Also, Ethan, I hope that trial went on?

Ah, well, hope it turns out well.

Anyhow, I seriously think there's a construction industry blind spot to all this social isolation and things like that. While each crew may not be that big or interact with other people but the workers can travel far for work and they are stuck in hotels. There's a possibility that the virus can spread around at the hotel, at work, at lunch/dinner and when people head home.

For example, I just traveled about 200 miles to a hotel so I can work. I'm expected to work so I am at work since you know, need to pay bills and maintain employment for health benefits. Thing is I came from a hot spot. So I potentially spreading the virus without being sick. I hope I am not but eh*... But for this work trip, I opt to make my dinner in my room so I don't directly spread it to the community.

One thing to note is that home for some people can be much more than 200 miles and may involve small and/or isolated communities.

I feel like I should voice my concerns to say my state representative or something to maybe shut this all down... Potentially putting MANY people out of work. I think it has to be a government mandate to shut this all down even though multiple parties can shut it down, no one wants to be the one that does it.

Though, maybe I should look at this in a different way: long haul truck drivers. In many ways they similar but also much more mobile. They are keeping many things going... Blah. Maybe I should stop thinking.

* I HATE the idea that I can be potentially spreading COVID-19. One big reason is that I am Chinese-American and I hate to validate any racist beliefs in any way.

Now that Soju is better, I am kind of thinking a bit more clearly now. I hope. Man, if my dog made me feel like that, I can only imagine my love ones or if I ever had a kid...

But yeah, long haul truck drivers along with our grocery and related stores are holding this country together. Make no mistake, our food supply is fine so there never really was a need for hording food items. Though, to be fair, I have come to the acceptance that this is going to be a far far longer problem than it should've been. Hell, it's probably setting forth a paradigm shift that will be as big if not bigger than 9/11 or the Great Recession (my only living references). We'll see. We got to weather this shit first. Bernie, Biden, Trump or whoever, it doesn't really matter. Got to get through this.

One thing for certain though... there is no normal to get back to.

It lasting longer is actually probably good though, what with flattening the curve and all that. The more it can be spread out, instead of hitting all at once, the less likely the medical system is to get overwhelmed, and the fewer people will die.

Maybe my social media spheres isn't able to catch Biden out and about but where the fuck is he? I think people want to see him on video, not only through press releases. Usually being gone for about a week isn't much of a deal but things are moving rapidly. January feels like two lifetimes ago while last month feels like one. Hell, a week or two ago was a different world. So where is the presumptive Democratic nominee?

Well he plans to do daily briefings on the coronavirus starting Monday to provide a counter to the horseshit spewing out of Trump's mouth so maybe he's gathering information or something, I dunno. Biden was never my guy but I do appreciate that he's making an effort to spread important and accurate information during the worst pandemic of our lifetime. Did you know that it's more dangerous for young people than everyone previously believed? A 32 year old from New Jersey with no underlying conditions just barely recovered from it and now he's carrying around portable oxygen at all times. This shit is scary.
