TheMightyEthan
Biased article is biased. I'd like to hear more about the sovereign immunity argument.
Battra92
Awesome photo-op is awesome. 500 Million taxpayer dollars were wasted on this money laundering scheme. Good on Romney for pointing out how reckless Obama has been with taxpayer dollars. The whole Bain Capital thing turned out to be an "open door hit face" moment for Obama so good to see Romney go on the attack like this. Mal
That is actually a really damn good move on Romney's part. Thinking about Solyndra still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It is a good idea to help push this sort of tech along but not doing background checks was just terrible. However, I can't say I can nail Obama directly on this one. Indirectly, yes, by the type of people Obama got to work the deal out. Eh.

Mal
1. Mind filling the rest of us in? About Solyndra? A quick rundown since I'm working on a project... They got granted a massive $535 million loan which they wasted on lobbying some more, redecoration and some other jazzy stuff. The latter part wasn't really known until they suddenly closed their doors last year. Sure China is pumping out cheaper solar panels but a half a billion USD can't make Solyndra in fighting shape with them? Bullshit. Its not a pretty black eye. Mr. GOH!
No, it's surely unconstitutional, it's just the only way to get laws invalidated is to challenge them in court (or convince the legislature to repeal/change them, but that's not really "invalidating" them...), and the only way to do that is if they actually try to enforce it against you. Not strictly true. Those laws are vulnerable to a facial challenge for violation of the First Amendment and Article 6 of the Constitution. It's just not worth the time and money to challenge them unless the states try to apply them. Edit: Solyndra is a tempest in a teapot. I'm not happy about it, certainly, but in the scheme of things it's pretty minor. I'm more angry about Obama's drone assassination program. But voting for the GOP won't cure that; it has a hard-on for that unilateral and despotic death-from-above stuff. TheMightyEthan
I thought freedom of speech cases were basically the only things susceptible to facial challenges. Anyway, from Wednesday's Colbert Report: Cracked me up.

deanb
http://www.bbc.co.uk...onment-18253578 Due to various import/export/manufacture restrictions around the world, states in the US are starting to run out of lethal injection. Not running out of rope n chairs, but as pointed out at the bottom of the article, people might oppose capital punishment if they were to see folks swinging in the breeze. TheFlyingGerbil
Did the Queen's Diamond Jubilee get much of a mention in the USA? People there seemed to be quite excited for the William and Kate wedding so I wonder how this compared? Over here I think this felt like a bigger deal than the wedding. The only comment I heard at work was someone asking why British people still have a monarch. That said, the only thing I cared about were those cool tins released by M&S: Edited June 5, 2012 by Battra92

TheMightyEthan
Apparently CNN had a couple hours of coverage of the flotilla. I have to say, if it was representative then you guys are crappy at celebrating.
deanb
It's spread over several days. And the weather was a bit shite. Also the balancing act between "doing something fancy" and "not looking like we're telling everyone to tighten belts while blowing a ton of cash on the queen". TheFlyingGerbil
the flotilla had to have several sections cut out due to the weather and was a recreation of a celebration that was last done 350 years ago and had 1000 boats so it was impressive in its own way. other stuff was more of a spectacle - the fireworks and music at the end of the concert were pretty impressive not to mention all the carriage rides and horsemen guards that we do so well. I think the best thing about it though was that most people genuinely felt good about themselves and the country for a bit and god knows that's rare enough these days to make it all worthwhile. Mr. GOH!
I thought freedom of speech cases were basically the only things susceptible to facial challenges. Nope. Facial challenges can, and are, be made pursuant to any Constitutional clause or Amendment. First Amendment facial challenges are the most likely to succeed, but I've seen facial challenges under Due Process, Equal Protection and even the Commerce Clause.
