Mister Jack
You know, going by some of the stuff Romney has said in response to the video, it's really starting to feel like when he said "My job is not to worry about those people" he didn't mean "Worrying about poor people is not in the president's job description" but instead meant "Not caring about poor people IS in the president's job description." Mister Jack
Apparently Chick-Fil-A has agreed not to fund anti-gay organizations anymore and in exchange the rights groups are suspending their anti Chick-Fil-A campaigns. Faiblesse Des Sens
And like with GoDaddy stopping its SOPA report it's only because of public image more than it is about any actual change in belief.

Mister Jack
Not actively funding gay hate organisations, if they're still firing and not hiring people because they're gay is still technically worse than nothing. That's a problem that goes beyond just Chick-Fil-A. Until it's classified as discrimination on a federal level (and why the fuck is it not already?) then it will take more than not buying chicken to fix it. Chick-Fil-A did publicly state that they do not condone harassment amongst their employees and that if anyone was being discriminated against they should speak up to management or, if necessary, upper management. Who knows if they actually mean it but at least it's in the public record now.

I feel like if we have another four years with Obama, we really have a chance of giving LGBT citizens the same rights everyone else has.
Mister Jack
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-mitt-romney-campaign-turnaround-20120921,0,4227715.story The level of self-delusion it takes for Romney to believe he isn't losing right now is the kind of crazy you could write a book about. There is a slim chance he might somehow win in November (but it's not bloody likely). Right now, though? Hell no. He is getting his ass kicked. TheMightyEthan
Obama is a really good campaigner. Six months ago when everyone was talking about how all the polls showed Romney with a significant lead over him I had to keep reminding people that that was before Obama even started campaigning, and that once he did it would likely turn around fairly quickly. Seems I was right.
Mister Jack
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Say what you want about Obama as a president, but as a candidate he is a friggin master. On an unrelated note, these voter ID laws that the Republicans are trying to pass right now are infuriating to me. Anybody who really thinks they're doing it for the good of the public is either lying or an idiot. We're even seeing attempts to block students by disallowing student IDs, and in one case someone even suggested extending the hours for voting in his state, but only in white neighborhoods. That one didn't take at all, thankfully. Still, the whole thing is so blatantly unethical that I can't believe it's even up for discussion. I've never accused the other side of trying to steal an election before, even in 2004, but I really don't see any other way to look at this. Mister Jack
Never mind what I said about Chick-Fil-A before. Their president just came out and vehemently denied ever agreeing to stop funding anti-gay organizations. So much for optimism.

TheMightyEthan
Even putting aside the special problems with airplane windows, isn't adding oxygen to a fire, even at ground level, a bad thing?
Thursday Next
I suppose he is thinking that the fire will consume the oxygen, suffocating you. Of course, there's the masks that drop down to provide breathable air (or anaesthetic if you believe the tin-foil-hatters).

Luftwaffles
Let's talk about tonight's debate, shall we!? My favorite "why the fuck am I watching this" moment had to be when Romney said something like "let's talk about this" and the moderator, who was getting cut off all night said "no, let's not". It's been 4 years, long enough for me to forget that presidential debates are the worst kind of formality, and this was a wonderful reminder. Mister Jack
That was perhaps the one moment when Lehrer took control. The rest of the time he was like this: Edited October 4, 2012 by Mister Jack
TheMightyEthan
Image broken, but still works as a metaphor. I found it interesting that when Romney agreed with some of the current education plans he praised the Education Secretary for them rather than praise Obama, but every time he disagreed with an agency's actions he criticized Obama rather than the appropriate Secretary. Mister Jack
I dunno man, a lot of times when you say the image is broken I can see it just fine, but nevermind, that's not important right now. If we were to judge the last debate based on how the candidates presented themselves, which I think many people did, then Romney did win. His body language and diction were just more confident. I was trying to base things off what they actually said, though, and in that department I don't think either candidate did very well. Obama was not nearly aggressive enough in taking Romney to task for some of the shit he's said and Romney still didn't explain how the hell his tax plan can actually work. It was kind of a letdown all around.
