While I think it's bad taste to play politics with the hurricane, I think as of right now it still helped Obama's image more than hurt it due to his timely response. Even Governor Christie, an avid Romney supporter, had the decency to thank Obama for his aid and praised his expediency.

Meanwhile, it's now coming out that Romney supported leaving disaster relief to the states and the private sector. Whether he still feels that way is almost irrelevant. When your home has just been ravaged by a storm, you do NOT want to hear that shit.

Well, kinda going with my prediction, it would be vital for every state to be prepared. When Florida didn't have their crap together twelve years ago, it was an ordeal. Sure, mainly because of the Electoral College and Popular Vote struggle, but it was greatly exacerbated by how terribly managed the voting polls were at the time.

Has that ever happened before? Delaying the election, I mean.

As far as I know, never, but it's still possible. I don't know what conditions would be required, but if it could be proven that the hurricane will affect voter turnout on Election Day, I wouldn't be surprised if we did have our first delay for a Presidential Election.

If they go that route, I would counter that any Republicans affect by Sandy in the lower East Coast will need time to clean up before voting properly as well. The numbers of them affect may be smaller than NYC's pro-Obama crowd but they must be given the chance too.

Personally if I was Republican, I would stall for a chance to see if Obama or his administration has any missteps during the next two weeks or so. If there is, I would highlight it and magnify it to hell. Think Katrina 2.0, etc. Though politicizing a disaster is bad but I wouldn't put it pass any desperate party.

Article I of the Constitution says that the election must take place on a single day throughout the country, so if they delay it on the east coast they'd have to delay it nation wide. Also the date is set by law so to delay it Congress would have to meet and pass a bill changing the date.

How is it that despite hurricanes always being seen as divine punishment for everything from feminism to gay marriage, nobody has said shit about how Hurricane Sandy is probably God punishing us for watching Jersey Shore?

Turns out my apartment complex is going to have an Election "Party," but that's not why I'm posting this. Normally I wouldn't care enough about politics to spend hours of my time at a party focusing solely on it, but it's also being sponsored by Sony. There are going to be a number of projectors displaying the election progress, which I can do with Internet tabs, but the reason why I'm going is that throughout the night Sony prizes will be raffled off.

Considering that only a few dozen are going so far, my chances seem pretty good. ^_^

(And yes, I'm putting electronics pretty high on my self-interest, but if I've voted I think I've done my American duty for the night.)
