Mal
If it is terrorism, I wonder if it is international (Al-queda) or domestic (homegrown).
Little Pirate
Technically any attack like this could be considered 'terrorism', but it might be a few days before they can confirm if it was related to an anti-American organization or not. A lot our media really likes to induce paranoia about Korea/Al-Queda, really. I've been sticking to facts-only news resources.
TheRevanchist
Reports says that officials are on the lookout for a Penske truck. Lots of speculation, but no confirmations of anything yet. "Investigators have a suspect — a Saudi Arabian national — under police guard at a Boston hospital" Lots going on right now.
Waldorf and Statler
it wasn't a shooting so chances are it wasn't a mentally unstable individual. So yeah terrorism is more likely.
Faiblesse Des Sens
They used bombs in Columbine. I'm not sure what you're getting at. Not everyone with a gun is an unstable individual. Anders Breivik is stable.
Waldorf and Statler
I'm just going with the past two incidents and the whole "glorifying the killers so they want to become famous" media thing. It's not meant to be the most accurate statement ever.
Mal
Apparently some Hollywood level of a chase just went down with regards to the Boston Marathon suspects. Seems like we got them alive? Edit: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152778880075249 Social media really makes this series of events really odd. Luftwaffles
I don't think that was it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22211764 Apparently a MIT police officer was shot tonight, so it could have been a manhunt for that guy. Though apparently the suspect in that was wearing a gray hoodie and was a white male, somewhat similar to those released FBI photos. So it could be the same guy. Mal
https://twitter.com/MichaelSkolnik/status/325137799986683905 Apparently the police confirmed it. http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/6254/web Feel free to listen in. I am while writing a report. They're trying to find the last suspect. The one they got died in the hospital. Mal
... If I heard from the police radio correctly, the first guy died from detonating a bomb that was on his chest when he was getting transported to the hospital. The fuck. Not sure the exact outcome with that. So yeah, they're being cautious with the second guy.
deanb
What the hell is going on in America dudes? Last week it was all "lolol Kim Jong-Un" and now it's all Boston Bombings, Ricin attacks, grenade police chases, sinkholes, Waco explosion. In other political news: CISPA Passes http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22213379 Gun Control doesn't - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22194299
TheMightyEthan
CISPA has only passed the house, it still has to go through the Senate.
Mal
Obama supposedly is going to veto CISPA. And Dean, you're watching a series of events (Boston stuff) that might change things. Not to the scale of 9/11 but similar. We won't go to war over this but our domestic policies may change, I feel. Since I mentioned Obama... your move Obama. This series of events is more or less his 9/11.
deanb
Eh, I'm allowed to not fully grasp the whole three tier "cheques and balances" stuff US has in place. And yeah I've heard Obama will veto it, which seems somewhat unbalanced. (Though we have the House of Lords, and Queenie, which can veto things, there's not really much of a claim of being balanced). As for domestic policies changing I can't see it doing as much as 9/11 if anything at all. Especially if it's domestic attack since US law has failed to respond to dozens of high scale domestic attacks so far.
Mal
Eh, we'll see. Anyways... the last suspect. Not sure if there are anymore. https://twitter.com/Boston_Police/status/325224387731152897/photo/1 These guys are Chechen I believe. He most likely have a suicide vest. This will end by lunch time... I doubt he gone far.

(Though we have the House of Lords, and Queenie, which can veto things, there's not really much of a claim of being balanced). The President's veto isn't an absolute kill to the law, it just means that Congress has to vote again and get a 2/3 majority in both houses. If both houses can pass it with a 2/3 majority it overrides the veto and the bill becomes a law anyway. That's where the balance comes in. Luftwaffles
Apparently both had strong Muslim leanings. And here I was hoping that wasn't going to be the case.
TheRevanchist
"Officials said that the two men were of Chechen origin. Chechnya, a long-disputed, predominantly Muslim territory in southern Russia sought independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union and then fought two bloody wars with the authorities in Moscow. Russian assaults on Chechnya were brutal and killed tens of thousands of civilians, as terrorist groups from the region staged attacks in central Russia. In recent years, separatist militant groups have gone underground, and surviving leaders have embraced fundamentalist Islam." Yep, nothing good will come from this, as the press has already got ahold of the Muslim link. Edited to clarify. Waldorf and Statler
I'm saddened more by comments by citizens and residents of the US. Which boils down to "FUCKING MUSLIMS WE'RE GONNA MURDER YOU"
Luftwaffles
That happens every time something like this happens, unfortunately.
Vecha
I'm saddened more by comments by citizens and residents of the US. Which boils down to "FUCKING MUSLIMS WE'RE GONNA MURDER YOU" Yep...which just repeats the cycle. Personally I say, "FUCKING [crazy/insane/inhuman] MUSLIMS! WE'RE GONNA MURDER YOU!!!" Normal Muslims? We coo' man. We coo'. Honestly...it just makes me sick of people in general. Though...I do think we need to stop interfering in the middle east. deanb
Surely "FUCKING [crazy/insane/inhuman] PEOPLE! WE'RE GONNA MURDER YOU!!!" Would be a slightly better message? And toning down the world police stuff might be a bit neat. Sure when they're like NK and threaten first it's fine, but in most cases I'd let local regions thrash their own problems out amongst themselves.
Waldorf and Statler
Now we're once again returning to guns vs video games after all this chaos. One guy I especially loved in Kotaku said something like "I'm tired of your clear bias against guns, always supporting games" REALLY. A VIDEO GAME BLOG. YA THINK?!
TheMightyEthan
I'm sick of the NRA's tireless stance in support of guns. Why can't we see some balance here?!
