So I just tweaked my vote. I don't think they'll do it on purpose, and they might end up fixing it like on the first day, but at this stage I'm not thinking they'll reach an agreement in time.

Also unless you guys can vote folks out mid way through, given that it's currently said to be raised until February should it all pass, I think it'll happen all over again now a small faction of republicans have realised they can quite severely rock the boat.

Keep doing it and they'll see what will happen in November 2014. If any of the Republicans are in the swing states or districts and they voted for this, they might be in a world of hurt. Hell, even the ones that voted against the shutdown are going to get burned by association. Which is sad and kind of scary since it seems those who voted against it are, from what I've read, being demonized/shunned by the party. The Republican party (Or the more radical elements) could potentially have Tea Party affiliates lined up to take the dissenters spots. No bueno.

Honestly, when the Tea Party first came on scene, I was sort of okay with them. Then their faces start to twitch and I got worried. Now I see them as insanely toxic. Take home message: Radical not even once.

Hopefully once Obama term out, we can get rid of the filth that is the Tea Party. They're destabilizing the already somewhat unsteady political system. As a person who likes balance (Even if I don't agree with certain policies, it should be free to evolve and adapt with our changing country so we won't be too liberal or too conservative), they're terrible.

What I don't get is there are moderate Republicans in the House, and there are enough of them that, with the Democrats, they could pass a bill.  The Tea Party is the majority of the Republican party, but it is not the majority of the House as a whole.

I mean, I do get it, it's suicidal stubbornness, but I don't really get that...

Yeah, I incorrectly lumped all the Republicans opposing a debt ceiling increase in with the Tea Party.

That aside, everything I've read says Boehner's got a couple of dozen Republican moderates who would vote for an increase along with the Democrats, and that coalition together is enough for a majority.  That actually now looks like that's what they're going to do, they just waited until the day before to decide to do it.

part of it is that TP Republicans right at Oct 1 made a rule change that the only one who could bring a CR to vote was the Majority Leader or his designatee, meaning Cantor has to clear whatever was being offered first.  Previously any member could offer up a proposal.

Looks like they finally came up with a "deal." I use quotes because the republicans get pretty much nothing, just a provision to Obamacare that mandates people applying for subsidies verify their income, which was already part of the law in the first place. GOOD, I say. Fuck them. I don't like Obama much lately, but he is 100% right when he says that if he caved to the GOP on this, they would just keep doing it every time the ceiling needs to be raised.

Great.  Now I can get back to hating on California politics.

But, before I go, I'd like to give a shout out to the Tea Party for being a bunch of jerks through this ordeal.  Another shout out to the Republicans who allowed the Tea Party in the game and gave them the slightest bit of power.  And one last shout out to the Democrats who spend money like the country isn't already in debt.  A big 'fuck you' to all!

I'm going to do some old man grumbles then eat some damn prunes.

Senate Democrats finally got sick enough of Republican obstruction of presidential nominees that they changed the senate rules so it now only takes 51 votes to end a nominee filibuster instead of 60.  (A rule change always only required 51 votes.)
