deanb
From the VGA trailer we find out that this is from a "New Bioware Studio". That brings the total count of Bioware studios to 7, EA will soon have nearly as many Bioware branded studios as EA branded ones.
Thursday Next
Bioware is a "Label" now, not just a Studio. It's like EA SPORTS.
deanb
As I said, "Bioware branded". I've known it's not exactly the same studio they bought years back once they started turning Mythic into a Bioware studio. It's still the same Mythic, same studio, staff, back-catalogue, just they get to put the Bioware logo on their future games instead. It's basically "EA RPG" much like there is EA Sports now. The Bioware that made Baldurs Gate, NWN, KOTOR etc is only 1/7th of the Bioware that exists now.
Thursday Next
I know you get the distinction, just wanted to make the corporate structure clear for everyone before we get people claiming that "EA are working Bioware like dogs." and "EA are going to ruin Bioware by spreading them too thinly."
toxicitizen
IGN are speculating that the game is a new Command and Conquer title. http://games.ign.com/articles/121/1213223p1.html
deanb
RPS reported similar, it's where I heard of it being a new studio. I'm not sure on this speculation though. Bioware is the EA RPG & MMO brand, Command & Conquer is an RTS. Unless they're following the "turn strategy games into other genres" craze sweeping the nation and using the established Command & Conquer name (and Bioware name too I guess) for a new RPG series? toxicitizen
Yeah, it seems like a weird fit. But they did open a new studio/create a new team for it. Perhaps they're trying to expand the BioWare "brand" to other genres. I'm not convinced either way, but having just looked at the little glimpse of footage in that spike promo, it seems like a possibility. deanb
Just updating the post Oh and the new studio is "Bioware Victory/Victory Games". They were named as Victory Games ages ago (Well earlier this year) so no idea why it recently became a Bioware studio, doesn't make much sense except for brand recognition, despite Bioware having RPG brand recognition and C&C being an RTS franchise, but I have no idea what the fuck EA is up to these days so I'm not going to attempt to rationalise their thinking.
excel_excel
Command & Conquer: Generals 2 is PC only and is developed using the Frostbyte2 engine. There ya go folks, a good start at least!
Waldorf and Statler
It lost my interest once it said it was an RTS. Ironically enough, my attention span was bigger as a kid when we didn't have shit like good TV and facebook so I could play RTS' all the time such as Age of Empires and Age of Mythology. Now I can't stand the buggers.
deanb
When the rumours were circulating that the new Bioware game would be C&C I was actually somewhat curious to see "a new direction" as the teaser stated. Somewhat bummed to find out it's just "the same direction" instead and is still an RTS and is pretty much purely got the Bioware name slapped on in the past few months for brand recognition. Given that EA pretty much killed off C&C with Tiberian Twilight I guess they needed a bit more umph in order to re-revive the series (just over a year later too...) toxicitizen
Yeah, the Bioware name really seems like it's unnecessarily being slapped on way too many things now. I have no problem with a studio falling under the Bioware umbrella making a RTS game because I realize it's not like it's the Mass Effect team suddenly making a C&C game. Also, according to an interview on IGN, Victory actually have staff that have worked on the C&C series before. But you have to wonder why the hell they even renamed them to Bioware in the first place. I mean, I get that there's a certain pedigree behind the name (which has arguably been kind of diminishing rapidly these past couple of years). And it actually makes sense when it comes to something RPG-related, like the studio working on The Old Republic. But here, I don't know, maybe like Dean said they're simply trying to cash in on brand recognition. Just seems kinda stupid, to be honest. There ya go folks, a good start at least! Yeah, now let's move this thread into the PC games section where it belongs. The Bioware name is nice for the attention, but I'm glad that it's not actually Bioware making it, just Victory Games. Still happy it's getting a sequel, though. Waldorf and Statler
So this means that for the time being, the only two "original" IP's Bioware is working on are Mass Effect and Dragon Age... both of which are moving towards a less RPG and more action adventure w/ exploration mode. I don't mind, I have other games to feel my rpg needs [kingdoms of amalur I'm coming]

TheMightyEthan
I know a lot of people don't follow this stuff quite so closely, but at least with me the brand name initially backfired. My first reaction was "An RTS made by Bioware? Pass."

Enervation
China will grow larger! Much larger! Battlemaster spam. I LOVE IT! Also, Overlords were the most ridiculously awesome tanks that graced my childhood. I spent most of my early teen years playing nothing but C&C: Generals. Probably one out of the handful of games that I could say defined my teen years. I'm really interested in seeing how Generals 2 will turn out. I also heard they will be adding the European Union as a faction to the game too.
