Vile
Top-tier Q. I need some people to play SFxTK with. Xbox.
SixTwoSixFour
I've got SFxT on PS3... but honestly, I really hope they do some patching. I mean, I guess I always have stuff to bitch about in a fighting game, but the Jin spin glitch, the Kazuya infinite (and the Akuma float infinite, and the Xiaoyu infinite, and the Toro infinite, etc...), the questionable balance (try and tell me Hugo isn't insanely good), the time problem (constant time overs = not fun)... I never thought I would say this, but this game is BEGGING for a Super Street Fighter x Tekken to sort out its issues. I really like the core of the game, but the rest of it is a mess. The only fighting game that I have not, after playing a great deal of it, at least somewhat soured on is BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. That game is still completely fucking brilliant, even with some minor balance issues (fucking Litchi and her completely safe supers). I'm on PS3, and I play Johnny all the time, but if anyone else is game, I'll be happy to play them too. Note, it DOES work across the ocean- I'm in the middle of the USA, and I can play Johnny in Sweden without lag as long as we don't interrupt the match intro scene. It's badass. Johnny
Note, it DOES work across the ocean- I'm in the middle of the USA, and I can play Johnny in Sweden without lag as long as we don't interrupt the match intro scene. It's badass. Provided both people have decent connections, that is. It just didn't work when I played against Shaner. That said, I'm amazed at how well PSN works over the ocean. BlazBlue, UMvC3 and UC2&3 have all worked way better than expected. Though BlazBlue's netcode is the best I've ever fucking seen. (fucking Litchi and her completely safe supers) Like Six, I'm up for playing anyone here. I only have BlazBlue Continuum Shift and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 right now, and I far prefer playing BlazBlue. Wanna pick up Extend at some point... PSN name is JohnnyWarpzone. fuchikoma
I dunno... I've had really good luck with SFIV on PS3 - it usually seems to play in realtime for me. BB:CS on PS3 though, I've never had a fight with anyone that doesn't lurch and stutter, and when I browse games, the "signal" is always weak. The last match I played, Jin killed me with his astral heat right through a barrier block... Still, if I see you on, I'll try to challenge you! I'm not into long combos, but at least I may be unpredictable...
Johnny
Fuchi, the thing with BlazBlue's netcode is that it uses the intro cinematic to stabilize the connection. If it's skipped, it's gonna lag badly.
fuchikoma
Yeah, I know. That last fight I mentioned, I watched the intro and it lagged badly (auto-matched for a ranked match) and the match played better than the intro at least. Still, my ISP is inconsistent at best - download speeds are good for the area (~15 Mbps, still behind many places) but the ping is often above 1/10 of a second. fuchikoma
I was just playing as Tao vs Litchi and had a funny end to a match. Litchi used her distortion drive, Tao used hers, which countered and beat Litchi, then the round ended and Litchi's staff fell out of the sky and knocked Tao on the ground. Though my favourite trick like that was in Bushido Blade, where you could position everyone just right at the end of a match and the victor would plant a spear into the loser, making a super blood particle fountain. The only way to avoid it is to jump at the right time. So. That's why. 永遠に凍てつけ!弱いな…
fuchikoma
Good to know. It looked very direct, but I don't study technicalities of every move in depth. I'd never seen it happen so I thought it was lag.

fuchikoma
Since I main Tao, I spend a lot of time off the ground when fighting Jin, so it hadn't come up that I was definitely on the ground trying to block it before.

Then I'd have three characters I can play decently. I do love her playstyle. I was planning on just waiting until I buy Extend to play her, but fuck that if it's not gonna drop in price soon. Strangelove
So theyre porting Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 to PSN/XBL. I find that ridiculously stupid since we already have MvC2. MSH has the gem system and every Vs. game has a few different things here and there, but all those games are broken. Theyre all badly balanced. You might as well just play MvC2. People cant take these games seriously. It's a wasted opportunity really. Capcom only needs to port one game - Snk Vs. Capcom 2. That game is a blast and I dont think enough people ever played it. Everything else can go to hell.
Mister Jack
I used to love Capcom vs SNK 2. One of my fondest memories of the game was when I was on vacation in Las Vegas. I stayed in the Circus Circus hotel which had a huge fairway/arcade on the second floor above the casino. I was taking a break from gambling and figured I'd see what games they had, and CvS2 was one of them. I actually owned the game on the PS2 already but it only cost a quarter and a lot of people were playing it so I figured I'd take a few of them on. By the end there was this huge line of people all lining up just so they could try to break my streak. One of them eventually managed to beat me by the skin of his teeth, but I'm pretty sure I won at LEAST 15 matches before that happened.
pocoGRANDE
i'm far from a hardcore fighting gamer, but i thought i'd relate something that happened to me while playing online recently. SF3: third strike is by far the SF game i am best at. i like using Shaun. the kid's got some great moves. anyways, so my friend who's usually way better (seriously, waaay better) than me at these games lost to me a couple of times in a row. "wow," i thought, "maybe i'm actually good at this." so i did what anyone would do: went online to have my confidence shattered. so, it's my first online SF3 fight ever. and who does it match me up with? a player at level 12. so i'm bracing myself for the worst. surprisingly, my opponent immediately goes for Shaun. i do too. we fight 2 rounds. obviously i lose both of them, but not embarassingly so. the rounds were rather close, with my opponent pulling out a victory in the last 25% of his health bar each time. i'm feeling pretty good about myself, even though i lost. then i see my opponent's sent a message to my inbox. "great," i think, "time to get called a fag." my opponent's message reads like this: "hey, good fight. i like it when ppl play as shaun. hes my favorite character cuz hes an underdog." i message back: "thank you! shaun's my favorite too. i am pretty bad at this game but i've gotten better playing as him." he messages back: "yo, use his fierce punch more." and now we're friends. THE END.
VicariousShaner
Here's a story I'd like to share about the most recent Evolution tournament. Street Fighter AE top 8 sucked. No one liked Gamerbee. The end.
Mister Jack
I realize they're not as popular, but I wish EVO would give more coverage to the lesser known fighters like Skullgirls and Blazblue.
VicariousShaner
Skullgirls came out too late to be considered, but I think I've heard it will be there next year. BlazBlue I am sad about, though. Not enough of a community.
fuchikoma
That's tragic, IMO. I really got out of fighting games after the 90s, and while I liked SF4 at first, I got out of it after a month or so (it felt to me like the AI difficulty was completely random all the time. Sometimes they couldn't lift a finger in defense, other times the 2nd level guy would counter 99% of moves on easy. It's absurd - it seemed to depend what mood the game was in.) But BB really felt well made enough to devote the time to learn it, at least short of combos. It's so cool how every character is a bit like playing a different game, yet they still all work together. It seems extremely polished and well thought out, so I'd have hoped more people would play it. Most of the other current titles... really don't draw me in. I'd probably buy the newer ones BB games if I knew anyone locally who plays or was able to join online matches more regularly. Strangelove
I suppose we best move the Blazblue discussion over here. I was actually able to beat Hazama with Noel on my first try on normal. Im pretty good with her. I switched it to easy to play arcade mode with Makoto and he is still really tough. I managed to beat him after about 7 or 8 times. He really defeats the purpose of having different difficulties. The thing that annoys me about these tough fighting game bosses is that any kind of defense strategy goes right out the window. Most fighting games like to stress how defense and offense are equally important, but then they give the boss a way to beat you to shit even when youre blocking or trying to evade. The best strategy for SNk and Capcom bosses has always been to wail on them without giving them even a microsecond to breath. And it seems its the same way for this game too. Also, I really liked Tao, but finishing combos with her drive move always leaves her open. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to knock the opponent down after using the rush thing? fuchikoma
(From Vita thread) I kind of liked Hazama as fighter bosses go - he seems like a regular fighter, just buffed way up. No full-screen attacks, pretty blockable if you see his attacks coming. Hakumen was actually the boss in BBCT - they tend to make them not cheat as bad as an SNK or Capcom boss IMO. You're right though, I've found you pretty much just have to wail on him constantly until he stops moving, preemptively barrier blocking a few times when he's going to attack. I haven't had problems finishing with a drive, I just do it just before/as the opponent slips out of claw range - but keep in mind my strategies are pretty much all for the AI opponents since it's rare I get a quick enough connection to play online. In single player there are lots of ways out, like even 2D, A (stop), 236BBBBB. No guarantees, but it's one way to mix it up a bit. Not sure what you mean by the rush thing, but the delayable 6C attack is great at knocking them down if you can connect.
Mister Jack
Tao's drive works better in air combos than ground ones, even if you simply launch them up FROM the ground before using it.
Little Pirate
Tao is probably the easiest character for me to use--I've always been pretty good with speedsters. Litchi is proving to be a challenge to master, but I'm slowly getting the hang of using her staff properly.
SixTwoSixFour
Anybody else been spending time with Persona 4 Arena? I have been myself, and I've been having a blast. The combo system is GREAT- it's just forgiving enough that you feel like it's not about arbitrary timings, it's about what moves logically link together. It's very BlazBlue like (for obvious reasons), but unlike BlazBlue, I don't dislike ANY of the characters. Well. Teddie is not fun. But other than that. I've been playing Naoto as my main, and I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that she'll end up being pretty high tier once the community really learns the game... and also that Naoto vs. Elizabeth is just a miserable matchup for Elizabeth. Elizabeth just gets her Persona broken or silenced so easily against her, and then she's just helpless against the Detective Prince. Naoto vs. Yosuke is super interesting, though- I fought this one guy on Player Matches a handful of times, and it's like... at first, Naoto zones Yosuke out pretty hard, then Yosuke gets Awakening, uses Sukukaja, and suddenly he can outrun her bullets and the tables are completely turned. Could have been just that guy, but it seems like a fascinating matchup. I've noticed another weird thing... I'm WINNING. Look at my win record on any other fighting game, it's pretty sad. On P4A, I am doing really really well. I don't know if it's just I'm fighting Persona fans who don't know fighting games, or what, but it's kind of nice, except I'm not sure I'm earning it. Like, I'm going to rank up a few times, and then suddenly shit will get serious and I'll never win another match. Guess we'll see.
