Saturnine Tenshi
So a perfunctory search for "counter-strike" has yielded nothing. "RPG-ification in games" is evidently somehow related. Who delivered Counter-Strike to that thread, huh? Hero Mod, maybe? The GO closed beta began yesterday, so I imagine this game needs a god damned thread for all the niggling and quibbling and innumerable cavils. We are, of course, gamers. It is what we do. I had a few issues with what I touched last night. In many ways, it was similar to touching a stranger on the subway—more like Counter-Strike: Chikan. Terrorists should not be wearing such short skirts if they don't- nevermind. Bit of a tangent there. The blurred scope taught me to never move when scoped, even though there is a gauge for how manageable a sniper rifle is when moving. I got the hang of it closer to the end of the night. GO certainly looks better. The radial menu works fine. I despise Dust, one of the most overplayed maps in the fucking span of Counter-Strike. So I hope you understand when I say I don't care to discuss the map design. Anyway, I only had one real problem with the game: movement. There is a bit of a slide when strafing that, unless crouching, makes finding that precise line of sight a pain in the ass. And it feels like Left 4 Dead, not Counter-Strike. Maneuverability is too... I don't know what it is. But players maneuver like Left 4 Dead, and I don't like it. Otherwise, it's CS as you'd envision a new release. deanb
You were the 2nd person to respond to the CS thread... http://forum.pressxordie.com/index.php?showtopic=1298 (I'll leave em separate though, older CS thread for more general I guess)
Saturnine Tenshi
Whoops! Well, I did search for "counter-strike", so that probably mucked it up.

Who delivered Counter-Strike to that thread, huh? Hero Mod, maybe? Without going back and looking, IIRC CS was mentioned in that thread as a counter-example to the RPG-ification of things like Call of Duty's online. It was basically "if you're going to have weapon unlocks and stuff, counter-strike did it right", not saying that CS is to RPG-ified. Again, that's without going back and looking though, and my memory could very well be lying to me.
P4: Gritty Reboot
Gah wish I had gotten into the beta. Not sure what you mean by the movement thing, but I'm sure I'll feel the difference having played CS for many years back in the day.
excel_excel
To me it just looks like Counter Strike HD remix, except its getting released on consoles too
Saturnine Tenshi
To me it just looks like Counter Strike HD remix, except its getting released on consoles too Yep. Though I'd hazard saying it's worth it simply to bring the hurt to the gamepad folk. x:

Johnny
To me it just looks like Counter Strike HD remix, except its getting released on consoles too And for a lot of people, that's exactly what they want.
Saturnine Tenshi
It may look that way, but it feels like a different game. In that I'm returning to the days of yore when PC games had an established section and I picked up 1.6 from a department store. I'm having a hard time adjusting. It also doesn't help that the "noob" servers at the time were also 24/7 dust maps.
deanb
http://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/2012/02/survey/ Complete a small survey (includes a hardware survey through steam) for a chance at a beta key.
deanb
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/05/counter-strike-global-offensive-loses-cross-play/ It will not be Cross-platform. They can't have updates on both PC n console at the same pace so in favour of PC's they're scrapping the cross-platform capability.
Yantelope V2
It makes sense really with the certification BS that MS does but it sucks that they couldn't make it work.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Wait, they were actually trying to do cross-platform between all 3? I thought it was just going to be PS3/PC like with Portal 2? That, I hope still happens, since I remember M+KB support being confirmed. deanb
No, I don't know where Yante got the idea MS was involved. It was a PC/PS3 thing a la Portal 2, as you said. But they're wanting much more rapid updates than consoles can provide. (Those with TF2 probably have a good idea on how often they want to update)
Yantelope V2
I get the impression from their description of updates that it involves the much bemoaned MS certification process for patches and such and it's already well known that you can't support 360 games with free content. See TF2.
deanb
http://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/2012/03/hitboxes/ They've tweaked the hitboxes (scroll over the image to see the comparison)
Saturnine Tenshi
Bought the game when it released yesterday. Thanks to Dave Strife for sharing one of his extra keys for the beta back when they were available at PAX. For anyone else who plays (on PC), I'll be on this server: 68.232.175.111:27026. Been playing with them since 1.6. They're great guys so long as you're cordial and aren't profane.
