Mister Jack
The trailer's convinced me to see it. Whether I'll like it is another matter entirely.
King Jimmeh
As long as the fact it's gonna be in 3D doesn't mean it involves Mjolnor been thrown at my face, this should be a cool film. Though I am looking forward to Captain America and The Avengers more. On the other hand though, Marvel/Disney are getting cheaper and cheaper, as Jon Favreau won't be directing Iron Man 3: http://goo.gl/fb/E8jGM
toxicitizen
Thor is a character I know very little of, but the trailer was pretty cool. I might not see it in theaters, but I'm curious.

"It sounds like there might have been so much Marvel interference, most of it to do with shoehorning Avengers elements into the movie, that both Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. were disappointed in the final product." Yes! I knew it, it wasn't just me! Thanks for linking that. I didn't hate Iron Man 2, but I felt it could have been so much better.
c hoertjes
I want to like it, but man, that trailer...it looks so bad.
King Jimmeh
I agree that Iron Man 2 was good, but nowhere near as awesome as Iron Man 1 was. I put it more down to the villains though in 2, rather than the Avengers stuff, which I quite liked. The villains in the first film all came of as pretty strong, whereas in #2, they were mostly a joke, especially Justin Hammer. Ivan Vanko got beat by Iron Man early on, then went on to work for Hammer, who wasn't treated as a serious threat, which made Vanko look worse. Plus there just weren't enough combat/action moments in #2, with the first one being Monte Carlo. In Iron Man 1, the film literally started with a bang. But going back to Thor, while I am looking forward to it, it's going to be hard to pull off, as it will be mixing genres with Asgard and the Norse Gods with almost sci-fi elements; SHIELD and the robot-ish villains it looks Loki makes. But I felt they had to rush through all the other stuff just to be able to fit everything in. It was very unsatisfying to me. Yeah, the trailer shows how they tried to get around it by saying 'magic = science misunderstood'. We'll see if that works. That robot-ish villain is The Destroyer, by the way. I don't know much about him, though.
deanb
Anthony Hopkins looks a bit too silly with that eye piece. I know what it's for, but it jsut looks stupid. The visuals all look kinda nice. But I think I'm getting bored of super hero movies. I'm looking forward to Captain America purely for Hugo Weaving as Red Skull. Watchment and Kick Ass were the kind a 'superhero' films that should of shown folks like Marvel that their kinda sucking and silly. Nolan North has being putting the cherry on top with the 'hey look at me, I make fucking awesome comic book films. And they're semi real' Iron Man is close to that. But the rest? Showmeyomoves!
To be fair, Marvel Studios has only done Iron Man 1 & 2 and The Hulk so far. All of which I thought were entertaining. The rest was all done by Columbia and Fox - which ranged from good (X-Men 1 & 2, Spider-Man) to terrible (X-Men 3, Elektra, Ghost Rider). And I'm still waiting for a good Punisher movie... Also, Batman is a very different beast from any of Marvel's properties (unless they suddenly decided to do a Moonknight movie, which would fucking rock). A 'realistic' Spider-Man for instance just wouldn't work. They tried that with the Green Goblin in the first movie, and I thought that was the weakest point. Another example is the Fantastic Four. The comics are all about crazy out-of-this-world sci-fi, but the movies tried to make it all 'plausible' (see: Galactus). They should just go all out and come up with the craziest stuff. Let's hope the reboot gets it right.
deanb
A good punisher movie? From Marvel? It's not so much the studio, but the concept of the 'hey they save the world, everything is awesome' kinda comic book superhero that's getting old hat. We've had them now for over a decade, we need something new but it seems that they're now putting them into a new push with Thor, Iron Man, Spider man reboot, First Class, Capitan America, Green Lantern and culminating in The Avengers. Which Voldermort, The Bride and James Bond already made in 98 and shown it can't be pulled off.

King Jimmeh
I don't know if you're trying to say that Spider-Man, X-Men First Class and Green Lantern are going to be apart of The Avengers, cos if you are, then to quote one Dr. Perry Cox, you are so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so very wrong. The Avengers is just Thor, Iron-Man and Captain America. Spidey and X-Men are still outsourced, and Green Lantern is DC/Warner Bros. If you want a more realistic/gritty type of comic book movie check out R.E.D. and The Losers which are both based on DC Imprints comics. On the other hand, most of Marvel's big names are Superhero, action type stories, so if you don't like that sort of thing, I wouldn't recommend getting ideas that the film versions will be anything else. Showmeyomoves!
Well that was obscure. That's not exactly a memorable movie. @Jimmeh: You forgot The Hulk. Bruce Banner will be played by someone else, but you know. He's still in there.
King Jimmeh
I do indeed keep forgetting The Incredible Hulk, my bad.
deanb
Nah I'm jsut listing those 'types' of comic book movies. After a couple years of 'alternative' comic book films you'd think that they might be up with trying new. The new bunch even includes a spiderman reboot which is hilarious after we've already had the Hulk reboot 5 years after the first hulk reboot. Are they making these films for fragile 80 year olds? Do we really need reboots n pumping out of dozens of Marvel n DC comic book heroes in such a short time? I'm sure some of us could wait 10-20 years. At this stage they risk running the idea of comic book films into the ground irreparably. King Kong was a good model for reboots. (ffs this is the third time Iv'e written this carry on refreshing the page accidentally and this forum seems to hate chrome built in systems for stuff like that. So I have to completely re-write it each time. Last time I'd got to the 10-20 years before I got to submit)
King Jimmeh
At the end of the day those characters are famous and Studios believe they will make them a lot of money. On the other hand, comics like Kick-Ass, The Watchmen and Scott Pilgrim haven't made the returns expected, despite their comics often being seen as better than those of the long-running characters. Mister Jack
I saw and loved all three of those movies. None of them made their money back?
Showmeyomoves!
I heard Scott Pilgrim didn't do too well, but all I heard about Kick-Ass was that it was made independently and then sold for a buttload of money to the studio (which had originally turned it down). King Jimmeh
I saw and loved all three of those movies. None of them made their money back? I think Pilgrim needed to make its money back in DVD sales. Watchmen and Kick-Ass made their money back in the cinema, but weren't the hits they were expected to be. TheForgetfulBrain
I keep forgetting Natalie Portman is in this movie. When I first saw the still shots of Asgard (?) I was horrified by how cheesy they looked, but I actually thought the trailer looked fun. Who knows - I'll probably watch it. And as not a huge Thor fan, I probably won't mind if it's not terrific, as long as it's entertaining.
Showmeyomoves!
Just saw this trailer over at GT and realized we didn't have a thread for comic book geeks yet. So here you go. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/episode-3-marvel-vs/708692 I can't help but smile every time I see MODOK.
