danielpholt
And i think that villain is known for his Guardian stuff mainly. I'd also heard some rumours about it setting up the next Thor movie, rather than an Avengers 2.
madbassman39
I can't imagine that (spoiler) will be a villain for the next Thor movie, mostly because (spoiler) is a huge character and a fight with (spoiler) would require the entire team of the Avengers. Â I know (spoiler)'s role in the Guardian's was very large, but if (spoiler) does make an appearance in that film series, and it is unrelated to the current marvel movie universe, than I can only imagine that it would be an unrelated version. Â I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that Marvel is trying to build a movie universe to parallel with their comic book universes, like a universe 616 movie or something
danielpholt
From what i'd gathered they were trying to build a separate universe based solely on the movie franchises, i might be wrong however. You seem to know more about it than i do, so i'll side with you. Saying that, i know they've got a Thor 2, Cap 2 and Iron 3 coming out in the next few years. No word on Avengers yet, maybe we'll here something about that at CC.
madbassman39
I'm most excited for Cap 2, because I want to see how they handle captain america in the modern age without the Avengers. Â I don't really know a whole lot, but I have been trying to figure out Marvels game plan. I knew the plan up to Avengers, but now that Avengers has released, with critical appraise, I don't know what they plan next aside from repeating the cycle. danielpholt
I want a Hawkeye movie. There's just something about a Bow and Arrow thats uniquely cool. Also, Renner is a bad-ass. Â Back to Comics, has anyone read Chew? Picked up the entire Volume 1 collection (the first 8 comics i believe) for a few quid on my iPad, and i'm really enjoying it. I think X Comics has the first edition available for free, its well worth a look.
deanb
Been reading Superman Red Son. I do like the what-ifs/Elseworlds (one of my first was KAL, when he's in medieval times). Also grabbed that Comixology (it was featured) and goddamn they are pricey. $3.99 a pop for a single copy of walking dead? That's near $400(first hit is free) for the full series to date. You can get a proper book for double the price of a single issue on there. No fucking wonder comics are struggling if stuff like Comixology represents their digital strategy
danielpholt
You sure that's right? I've just looked and the individual comics are 69p, the volumes are £2.99 and h omnibus versions are £9 I think.

At least for walking dead. Rest are all over the place, some are $3 for even old copies, some are 99¢ throughout, some even more though I think their book length ones. Eleven
Ugh... you guys are making my head hurt comparing prices in different currencies... Â Anyway, I saw that too, the $3.99 price point. For marvel comics as well. DC's stuff I think is lower, at $2.99 but yeah it's the same for me. Other indie/smaller publishers stuff is around $2-$3 too I think. Â Scott pilgrim stuff is priced at $6.99 when I bought it, I think it's reasonable, though yeah "level of art" is different. Â I can buy music tracks at $0.99 and get more enjoyment out of them. I just don't see myself buying digital comic books at $3.99. But hey, I guess it depends on how much you value comics.
deanb
All my prices are in dollars (cos that's what comixology uses)
deanb
Killing Joke was super short. I was expecting something watchmen-ish, but it was over in a flash. Good, sure, but short. Now onto joss whedons astonishing X-men. So far, so good.
TCP
Ok bros, here's the deal: I honestly wouldn't mind getting back into some Marvel comics, but the last time I read was probably 96-97 during the Spider-man Clone Saga. Any more mature books to start with? Maybe something that's in one of those compilation books? Edited July 18, 2012 by TheCowboyPoet
madbassman39
I was in the same situation, so I started reading ultimate spider-man and it was a great choice. Granted this was 6 or so years ago and the Ultimate series wasn't as complicated back then. I highly suggest giving Ultimate series a go. Now onto joss whedons astonishing X-men. So far, so good. Â Was Killing Joke referenced on the Midlife Gamer Podcast at any point recently? I know they're doing a Comic Club, but i missed the name of the comic they were starting up with. I know its got something to do with Joker and his Origin's story. Â Â Ok bros, here's the deal: I honestly wouldn't mind getting back into some Marvel comics, but the last time I read was probably 96-97 during the Spider-man Clone Saga. If you're savvy enough about it, you might be able to find it for issue one free on one of the online stores.
deanb
I don't do podcasts so don't know if it was referenced though killing joke is one of the origin stories.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I guess it counts as an origin story of sorts for one character... but even then it's more of just a story and not so much an origin. Â Highly recommended either way.

SomTervo
Chew is fucking great. I recommend it highly, also. If anyone feels 'meh' about it, or knows nothing about it, just read a synopsis on Wikipedia or something. The concept alone is absolutely hilariously twisted and great. Â My only concern is that it was originally intended only as a 10-issue run or so. After the first issue or two it got picked up for, like, 40 more issues. Â Not sure if they can drag it out that long. Â Re: Killing Joke: I feel the same way. It was very good, but I felt well overhyped. Â At the first Kapow! Comic Con me and a friend were staying at the Hilton which all the celebrities were staying at. Sitting at the table right next to us at breakfast was Brian Bolland: the guy who drew Killing Joke. Had a chat with him about Grant Morisson's Batman & Robin (which is great). Â So cool.

deanb
Batmam: I, Joker was neat if a tad weird and off the beaten track. Over a bit too soon after "The Joker" becomes Batman due to real Bruce Waynes final words. I'd have expected a bit more expanding upon that premise than what was given. Â Â I am enjoying the Elseworld stuff, gonna go onto "whatever happened to the man of tomorrow?" next. Any Marvel alternatives to Elsworlds? Oh wait there's that Marvel Zombies isn't there. Hmm. Â Oh if you're a Android user may I suggest https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rookiestudio.perfectviewer&hl=en Fully free, the "donation" version is just that, two tiers of donation.

Thanks for the recommendation, reading through the early Spider-man books now, great stuff. I'm glad you are enjoying. Its one of my favorite series to date. I also really like the changes they made with the villains, for example the Green Goblin and Venom. I actually really like Venom in the Ultimate Universe. TCP
So question! I see it was canceled a few times, relaunched under slightly different titles. Is it still going now, with the same continuity? Everything I read online isn't clear.
madbassman39
It is with the same writer (Brian Michael Bendis) but its been "rebooted" with out actually rebooted. They have a new spiderman after Peter has died his name is miles morales. The series is supposed to still be good just the ultimate series went off a tangent during one of their maybe cancellation events which was called ultimatum. I haven't read that far but apparently many people didn't like that arc. Marvel then decided to keep the ultimate universe going but changed the name from ultimate spiderman to ultimate comics spiderman. So the series hasn't ended it's just marvels direction with the ultimate series changed and then Bendis became the head honcho of the ultimate series and put it back on track.  The problem is that the ultimate series was to make it less convoluted from what current comics have become after 40 plus years of continuing story plots, and then marvel screwed it up a few years back and made the ultimate series almost just as intimidating. It's supposed to be as good or better now than the earlier stuff which like I said is some of my favorite stuff  Edited for spoilers, I don't know if it is necessary because marvel marketed the event openly.
