Eleven
Oh and I wanted to post this old thing... http://youtu.be/bwuIwt4pRNI
Hot Heart
So, general query, I've been looking at reading X-Men: Schism, but I'm not sure if, a) it's worth reading and b) whether there is relevant stuff to read before it, or what arcs follow that. I believe that last X-Men comic I read was some Legacy one with Multiple Man having a copy stranded in the future with someone-I-forget-who (I may have that wrong), or Bishop and Cable were fighting over Hope. Can't say it really interested me, but if there are recommended arcs or collections, I'm happy to hear about it. I was reading Ellis' continuation of Astonishing X-Men and that was alright. In other news, this is really old now and I'd assumed the entire internet and its dog saw it, but I'll share it just in case, because it's great. Eleven
The arcs I enjoyed from the X-Men are the ones that lead up to Hope, to the Second Coming (Uncanny, Cable, X-Force). Whatever stuff that follows after I just read to see what'll happen to Hope. EDIT: Which is from what you've read (Messiah CompleX) to Second Coming. Basically Hope's story. Schism is kinda self contained, you just need some to have some general idea on what the mutants are like before it. It starts off with Wolverine coming back from some adventure, which is from an arc in the Wolverine comic, but that's not important, it's just where it starts, and is immediately greeted by a bunch of kids. And the kids that meet him are Hope and her buddies (the "lights"). And then Cyclops calls him. One thing that could probably confuse you is what's Magneto doing there? The short, non-spoiler answer is well because Cyclops is a badass. The long answer is found on the Uncanny X-Men comics, somewhere from issue #500 to #520, when the X-Men moved to San Francisco. Schism leads to a... what do you call it? A label? Basically the next issues that follow will be under the banner (oh that's the word!) Regenesis, which are from different books that have their own arcs, but it follows what happens after it Schism. The two books to follow here is Uncanny X-Men (obviously) and Wolverine and the X-Men. Hot Heart
I seem to recall Magneto (depowered) showing up when someone was trying to kill Xavier in Legacy, though I'm hazy on the details. Thanks for the details. It all sounds a little convoluted, which is why I gave up trying to follow anything in the first place. I will probably check out Schism at least, and I seem to recall people saying really good things about Wolverine and the X-Men, with the focus on the school side of things being a refreshing change (plus, I really dug Bachalo's art when he was on Carey's run on X-Men). TCP
I've never been too into X-Men but All New X-Men is not only the best X book I've read, but one of the best Marvel Now books. I'd recommend that. I think the first TPB just came out.
Eleven
Yeah, depowered Magneto showed up there as you said, and that was from Legacy, right after Messiah Complex. Magneto also did something amazing in the Uncanny X-Men issues post Messiah Complex, that is related to what happened in Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run. I'll post it just in case you wanted to know without researching it and potentially encountering more spoilers than you'd like. Also contains spoilers on why he is where he is at Schism. At one point when he was working to get his powers back he "felt" Kitty's bullet, but couldn't do anything yet (or didn't want to). He memorized the composition of that unique metal. When he showed up on the X-Men's front door, he knelt (yes he did!) before cyclops because he admired what Cyclops was currently doing and admitted that he nor Charles has ever made it that far. So he joined them. The X-Men, of course, don't trust him. So to gain their trust, he hiked up to a mountain and concentrated. And brought Kitty's bullet back from whatever universe it's in now! Seriously, that's crazy! He was out of commission for a LOT of important events after that though.
Hot Heart
Ha, that does sound crazy. Thanks again.
deanb
So making some use of the fact there's Netflix plumbed into housemates PS3. Watched Iron Man Extremis. It...was different. In a lot of ways actually. The animation style is the big one, it's somewhat highly detailed which means most of the animation is like the lips being stretched for talking, or just whole bodies moving for a couple frames. It's also seems a tad more..mature/darker than other Iron Man stuff. He repulsor beams a guys head off being the big one. Sure he kills people, but it's a thing rarely directly shown. I guess I liked it, might hunt down the comic arc to flick through.
BrainHurtBoy...2
I just read "Black Hole", by Charles Burns. It was thematically pretty shallow, but stylish as all hell. Is anyone else interested in alternative comics? On the more mainstream side of things, I've been reading Mark Waid's run on Daredevil, which is okay. I mean obviously not much to it besides great art and teenagers with the most fucked up STDs ever but enjoyable. How alternative are we getting here? Waldorf and Statler
Not sure if you guys are interested but recently io9 pointed me to this webcomic and I am awestruck over how good it is. Basically a deconstruction of many tropes and cliches in a very professionally done and interesting webcomic. Think junior high x-men with a lot of humor. Here's a sample if you want, I gobbled it up within a day and I'm not in the waiting for material camp. Here's the article if you're interested on reading about what it is a bit more http://io9.com/saturday-webcomic-being-haunted-isnt-the-weirdest-thi-472687149
madbassman39
If anyone has a kindle fire and uses Comixology app, they will know that you cannot purchase DC comics on the app. Amazon has some agreement that they sell the DC comics through their store, meaning that Comixology doesn't actually sell those comics. Well luckily for all of us, there is a loop hole, you can buy DC comics through any other form of Comixology and look in your purchased history and download DC comics through Comixology onto their kindle fire. Faiblesse Des Sens
I do believe that's one the ways Brian K. Vaughn recommended to get around the ban of issue 11 of Saga.
Mal
Speaking of Saga. I regret getting the first collection of it. It sort of forces me to wait for each collection instead of each chapter. I could pirate and pay later but I should be pass that stage of my life...
Faiblesse Des Sens
By chapter do you mean issue?
BrainHurtBoy...2
Each issue of Saga is called a "Chapter". Issue One is "Chapter One", etc. Saga has a very original world, but Vaughan's slangy, faux-witty dialogue pisses me off. I keep reading, regardless. TheMightyEthan
I moved Cowboy's Agents of SHIELD trailer to the trailer thread so people who don't normally come in this one can see it too.
deanb
Well guess what I did. basically because I can see many of us likely watching it, which would be sucky to continue in the Trailers thread. Which is more for movie trailers than much else

toxicitizen
So, I've been playing a lot of Arkham City lately and with Man of Steel on the horizon, all of that made me feel like starting to read comics again. Mostly Batman stuff but I also grabbed a bunch of the big DC series post-reboot. Finished reading the Court of the Owls story arc in the main Batman series today. Thought it was pretty good. The main Justice League series is also pretty great. I tried reading some Detective Comics but while I like the different style, I didn't find the stories anywhere near as compelling. Think I'll try Superman/Action Comics next and probably some of the less superhero-y stuff like Swamp Thing and Justice League Dark. I'm also really interested by Saga as I fucking loved everything I've read by Brian K. Vaughan (especially Y) but with only a dozen or so issues out, I feel like that's just going to be a massive tease. :/
Hot Heart
DC Universe Dream Cast Seems p good, I suppose. Not sure about their choice for Lex Luthor...
deanb
Wow that'd be a pretty expensive film/film series to make. But an impressive as hell one. And I'll agree with you on their choice of Lex Luthor. I recognise most of their choices, but I have no idea who this is.
TCP
I think the Lex Luthor choice is the guy who played Lex Luthor on Smallville.Anyways, way too much Whedon-people on that list. There's some good ideas on there, I do like Fassbender as Bruce Wayne, but I'd rather see him do the X-men movies instead.
deanb
I was making a joke. I watched Smallville through to the end, so knew who he was. Also that he's the VA for the Flash (quite a lot of the guys listed are the VAs of their counterparts, Ironside for Darkseid, Fillion n Green Lantern, Perlman and Lobo etc), and in one episode the Flash and Luthor swap bodies and then this happens. Now read my prior comment. Anywho, gag killed.
Hot Heart
Hehe, I didn't think the Lex Luthor joke was that subtle (but I suppose it's trickier when someone else has started playing along too).
