Mal
Just picked up Prophet. I think its the second half of the series that is standalone. So far it is pretty good but the art can be kind of terrible at times.
deanb
So someone want to explain something for me in Dark Knight Returns   When Superman flies off with the nuke it goes off and he goes all...weird and zombie-like. He crash lands and then sort of absorbs the life force of the stuff around him. Any explanations of this weird weakness to nukes and power source given in the graphic novel (I could probably flick through myself mind). It's not as bad as Man of Steels source of power/weaknesses given, but it's still pretty out of whack from the usual "weakness to kryptonite/magic, power from the sun" he has. Which he still has. And I know him being in the nuke is needed for the eventual battle as they remark "he's still weak from the nuke", but not sure it needed to be done in the semi-zombie way he has in DKR. Of course it might be in the film only.
Hot Heart
 If I remember rightly, he's still susceptible to extreme amounts of radiation (he's poisoned by too much solar radiation in All-Star Superman), and in that instance the sun was blocked out as well. Is that when he just about escapes into the sunlight or goes towards sunflowers?  EDIT: Yeah, I think that's just the film. In the graphic novel I think he just about manages to reach sunlight  Edited August 18, 2013 by Hot Heart
TCP
Anyone pick up Infinity #1? I like seeing the more cosmic side of Marvel pop up, hopefully the Guardians and Nova can get involved in this. Also been reading through Ultimate Comics Spider-Man with Miles Morales. Honestly, it's pretty fantastic. I wouldn't be opposed to having him transfer over to the regular Marvel 616 universe and maybe giving the Ultimate universe a finale.
Hot Heart
I remember when the Ultimate Universe had a Loeb-written finale, tying together all the titles, and it was one of the worst things ever. And I believe it was called 'Ultimatum' (technically, making it 'Ultimate Ultimatum'...) Â Though, I know this is now the 'Ultimate Comics' banner (even if it follows the same continuity as the last one), and I always enjoyed Bendis' previous work on the series (Bendis' USM and Powers = good, Bendis Marvel Crossover Events = bad)
TCP
I just think, at this point the Ultimate universe has kind of served it's purpose. As a new reader it's more complicated and confusing than the normal Marvel universe because everything's so different from what is normal pop-culture knowledge. And actually, maybe it's just me, I kind of liked House of M. I haven't read Seige though.
madbassman39
The Ultimate Universe was to help people get interested in the characters without having to put up with all of the convoluted plot lines in the 40 plus years of comics. Turns out, in about 10 years, Marvel kept changing what they wanted out of the Ultimate Universe, didn't want to fully reboot anything, and just made it more complicated. Â If you can keep up with it, or start from the very beginning (which is really cheap now) I suggest giving them a read because they are really well written and some really good fresh takes on old characters (particularly Norman Osbourne and his "hulk" style Green Goblin). Mal
I finally picked up Saga Vol. 2. This is going to be good.
staySICK
SAGA is effing great. Â I'm glad its seemingly picking up steam beyond the praise because I'd hate to see it cancelled. Â Only 2 issues in, but SEX CRIMINALS has been pretty good so far. Â
Faiblesse Des Sens
I only went one issue in and I didn't like it
Hot Heart
So, Paul Rudd is Ant-Man (slappa da bass, antmon!). I'd say that's a good pick. Will Arnett would've been a good pick if they were going for the (crap) Kirkman Irredeemable style, but I guess it's a good job they didn't. Â Also, this. Mal
I recently went through Saga vol. 2 in one sitting. Maybe I'm not seeing the time switches or something but the pacing seems weird. Killer slave girl in one portion and somewhat normal the next. I understand the skips to the past like to the parents and the cliff hanger at the end. Other than that, very nice. Volume 3 will be a nice birthday and grad present in June.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Somewhat normal? Yeah, wait until you read past volume 2. The pacing actually gets really slow but it does it in the sense to where yesterday's issue was some HOLY FUCKING SHIT WHEN IS THE NEXT ISSUE sort of thing when everything finally starts happening and it's not over yet. It's 40 days until the next issue.
TCP
HH, Is Irredeemable Antman that bad? I picked it up for 99 cents each via Comixology awhile back but haven't read it yet. I also agree with Paul Rudd being a good choice for Henry Pym, glad it wasn't JGL, he'd be better off as Doctor Strange. However, I hope the rumour of Rashida Jones as The Wasp isn't true, I can't see Anne Perkins fighting alongside The Hulk and Iron Man in Avengers 3. I wonder how long till we get a monthly Pym focused Antman book? You'd think that would have to be in the works with a film on the way.

To be honest, outside of Invincible, I'm not really a fan of Kirkman (and even Invincible pushes it at times). Irredeemable Ant-Man I gave up on after a couple of issues because it just bored me. Having an asshole sort of superhero is a cool idea (I'm working on something in that vein myself) but this lacked any sense of humour whatsoever and the story was just...non-existent. deanb
So I should have come to this thread some time ago.  Finished up Marvel Civil War (I think, there's probably some threads I'm pretty sure are missing at the end but there is a conclusion of sorts.) It was okay I guess, and the fact that I should probably read the bits in-between House of M and this is maybe not entirely helping on some bits. The biggest issue with it is that it's not really even hiding the fact it's over a hundred comics dedicated to having a go at the Patriot Act and post-9/11 America. Just they have "The Sanford incident" and Superhuman Registration Act instead.  Also read Wanted, since I'm quite a fan of the film. They don't really have much at all in common beyond a handful of names and a specific scene. The comic book is actually quite a neat little 6 part comic book basically about "if supervillains actually won". They're both very neat on their own and it's a quick enough read that I'd suggest it. Hot Heart
Yeah, I think Civil War was meant to be more balanced originally, but it's just...not. So many crossovers and such a waste of time for everything to descend into a big punching match.  House of M, Civil War, Secret Invasion. Big Bendis events that put me off following mainstream superhero comics.

I think it's a solid sentiment. Though ultimately it boils down to MoS not being that good a film and the Marvel cinematic universe being pretty well done mainly due to Marvel really throwing themselves at it and actually owning the comics too. Mister Jack
I started reading Fables after playing episode 2 of The Wolf Among Us.  In only two nights I'm already past issue 70.  I can't put it down.  It's given me some new insight into the games upon replaying them, too.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Wait, you're reading it by issue and not by volume? Because it gets pretty shit after a certain volume. It remains entertaining but gets very shallow...

Eleven
Thor is a girl now. Discuss! Â Not really updated on Thor, or comics for that matter, but I know they retconned Thor from being Donald Blake to actually being someone named Thor Odinson. And they said Thor will still be Thor, so T.O. would be T.O., and someone else will become Thor, God of Thunder? So there are TWO Thors now, but the other one will not be a god and be Thor in name only? Â I don't know I don't really much care for Thor, though I liked his movies the best among the MCU (haven't watched Winter Soldier...). Â On another note, is Wolverine dead yet? I need to know when to celebrate.
