Hot Heart
I know my friend started reading the relaunched Amazing Spider-Man (around 1999) but I think he jumped on where J. Michael Straczynski took over. I seem to recall, despite a few good moments, that it was pretty terrible. Then I think there was some sort of 'reset', not a retcon or restart though, a few years ago but I've not seen anyone say anything positive about it. ...hope that helps? Mr W Phallus
Hmmm think I'm gonna have to delve way back into the past. It does seem like I hear more bad things than good when it comes to Spider-man (the Clone Saga comes to mind). I'll try looking for some of the collections of early 60s stories then take it from there. Thanks though.
madbassman39
Jumping in to just mention a few favorite comics of my own. 1) Ultimate Spider-man, 2) Ultimate X-men, and 3) Red Robin. Its a shame they changed the costume to Red Robin, but his new role as far as assembling the Teen Titans seems to work for Tim Drake. I'm thinking about jumping in and trying out the new Nightwing comics to see how I feel about them, and the new Superman reboot is supposed to be real good so I might give that a shot too. I'm really liking the new Action Comics so far, but the proper Superman #1 didn't do much for me. So far my favorites of the new 52 are Justice League, Green Lantern, Action Comics and most of the Batman ones (as in Detective Comics, Batman, Batman & Robin, Batman: The Dark Knight, Nightwing, etc...) Aquaman and Flash aren't bad, either.

WTF
@FLD Grant Morrison can write Supes well, I mean take a look at All Star Superman, probably the least boring Superman has ever been to be honest. edited to add that he's on action comics right now with rags morales whose Nightwing run was pretty nice. toxicitizen
Funny you should say that. I recently watched the movie adaptation of All-Star Superman (pretty sure I posted about it in one of the movie threads) and thought it was.... weird. It wasn't bad, that's for sure. But it was certainly the strangest Superman story I'd ever experienced. My favorite still remains Geoff Johns' Secret Origin, though. But to be honest, my experience with Superman comics has been really hit or miss. And unlike Batman, I mostly stuck to stand-alone miniseries, soI haven't read a whole lot of Superman that wasn't just a retelling of his origin story. That's the main problem with having a 700+ issues series. You don't know where the fuck to start reading, and it sure as shit won't be at #1. WTF
Read the comics for all star superman it's standalone and about 12 issues if memory serves me right. The film would've been weird since it tries to bridge what would've been a 3-5hour long movie if you consider the book as a storyboard and compress it to under 90 minutes. It misses out on a few plot points. As always treat film and books as entirely different media, story adaptations will never be 1-1 because of the nature of the medium. danielpholt
I've read a few graphic novels in my time, but recently i've been reading Chew, Marvels Civil War series and The new Batman. All on my iPad. Am in the only on doing it this way? Has anyone read the Firefly/Serenity comics by any chance?
Faiblesse Des Sens
I'm waiting for an Android tablet that's cheap enough with the right quality to warrant a purchase largely for comics. I'm thinking refurb Nexus Tablet somewhere down the line. The refurbs on nice tablets are already getting cheap.
deanb
Yeah I'd like a tablet for comic book purposes. It's why the Note was starting to appeal to me. Not the best screensize but still larger than a phone and without the extra purchase a tablet would require.
SomTervo
Pirating comics digitally and reading them on computer screens is always a classic. And they're so much nicer having on paper that they're products I often actually buy after having pirated them. All-Star Superman is one of my favourite comics of all time. Incredible. Really, really want the Absolute edition. That animated film was very odd, but not bad. Misses some of the best bits of the comics and isn't as good artistically. Just finished: From Hell. Holy fuckballs. Why haven't I read that before. One of the best things I've ever read.
TheMightyEthan
See I actually prefer having digital copies. They're often nearly perfect, and I'm anal about not damaging books to the point where I feel like I can barely touch them. For reading comics digitally I quite like my Nook Tablet. The screen is a little small if that's your primary purpose, a 10-inch screen would be nicer (like an iPad, as much as I hate Apple). 10 inches feels too big to me for most regular books though if comics aren't your primary consideration, and I really like the 7 inch Nook Tablet screen for that. madbassman39
I love reading on my kindle fire. The only problem I run into is how easy it is to spend way too much money on comics
Faiblesse Des Sens
I have a huge backlog of pirated comics to get through haha. I'm definitely going to treat it like music where I buy my favorites digitally.
Eleven
I love reading on my kindle fire. The only problem I run into is how easy it is to spend way too much money on comics Do you read on CBRs on the kindle fire? or from comiXology (because you mentioned spending). Comixology has that panel by panel thing so it's easy to read on anything, even an iPhone (which I have done). For CBRs, do you think you have to zoom a lot? I've been thinking of getting an iPad (yes, I like Apple products) since the 2 came out, but I wanted something maybe HD. Like the iPad 3. So now I want an iPad 3 but also debating getting a kindle fire instead 'cause it's cheap and I would only (probably) be reading comics on those most of the time. But I'm not sure how it would fare, and I don't have any friends who owns a kindle fire. I've been reading on my phone and I really have to zoom a lot so it's not as enjoyable. madbassman39
I use comixology. I got the kindle because I figured that a I hardly need a tablet because I already have a laptop, but I wanted one and this was cheap. For what it is its great. I used comixology on a phone and the extra screen real estate makes it better. I also love the panel by panel set up. The kindle fire is exactly what you pay for. Its not as good as an ipad, but you pay 1/3rd of an ipad. I'm actually posting on it right now.
danielpholt
I'm in the iPad corner. I love the thing, and with the new display viewing comics has never been so much fun. Sure its more expensive than the Fire, but i think you get your moneys worth. Either way, i think Digital is the future.
Eleven
I've forgotten I posted here. Thanks! I still have a few weeks before I go out and buy either an ipad 3 or a kindle fire. Gonna read comics from the PC for now, my phone is giving me a headache... Edited June 27, 2012 by elev3n
Faiblesse Des Sens
iPad 2>iPad
Eleven
And why is that? Given how expensive these things are I would bet on the 3 since it would have more support in the future (by Apple, and longer by Apps). And probably future releases would sport the higher resolution screen so the 1024x768 screen would be a waste. Faiblesse Des Sens
There's not much made for the screen yet and since the resolution is so huge it actually runs games worse than the iPad 2. Google some tests.
danielpholt
Marvel is set to announce a Movie for The Guardians of the Galaxy. Who's brushed up on that area of the Marvel Universe (a post i read said something about them being from 'outside' the actual 'MARVAL UNIVERSE'). This means that the end credits scene at the end of The Avengers was a bit of foreshadowing for both The Avengers 2 and a prospective Guardians movie. Or maybe they'll combine the two. I know this isn't Comic Book Talk, but i do intend to read this in Comic Book form, so maybe one of our members can enlighten me?
madbassman39
Well I don't know much about the Guardians, but the ending of Avengers was announcing the next villain mostly, I think
