All I'm saying is that if the bad guys get to have infinite ammo, I should at least be able to pluck a couple bullets off their carcasses. The only thing I've heard about empty guns with this game is that the enemies can hear the click when you run out of ammo and know to come murder you. There is never a dull moment, youre either watching or playing something awesome. Story and gameplay, this one is a fine balance of those 2 things. Its fucking magic. TCP Posted June 18, 2013 Report Share Posted June 18, 2013 Got to the winter portion of The Last of Us..... Reveal hidden contents I LOVE when games do this, like the end of Red Dead. The cut scene where she first sees the elk, starts following it, and then the camera pulls behind her and she stands still.. "holy fuck am I playing as Ellie now?!". I did predict that Joel would die at the end of TLoU and you'd finish the game as Ellie, maybe that'll still happen, but this was a great way to mix things up, especially in a longer game like The Last of Us. Christ almighty. Anyone have any thoughts? Reveal hidden contents I can't decide how I feel about it. Harrowed. Joel is a bad, bad guy. I thought it was a tale of redemption, him becoming a good guy again after fostering a father-daughter-like relationship with Ellie, but nope. He's still the bad guy he obviously became after the trauma of losing his daughter and surviving for two decades in a post-apocalypse. Also, I don't quite understand the relevance of the game's name. I'm sure it could have a more thematic relevant name. The whole point of the story seems to be innocence and trust and how they are useless in this new world. The Last Of Us suggests it'll actually address the apocalypse, but it definitely doesn't (and not that I was expecting it to, either.) God I'm so harrowed. Also, yes, the length of it is just perfect. I played it over a series of days, and like with Red Dead Redemption and Uncharted 2, I kept thinking it was going to end, but it kept going... Yet at the same time, you kinda know when it's about to ramp up. That final hour is just pure pace. Pure not-wanting-to-know-what-happens. How many strong singleplayer experiences do we get these days which are 15+ hours long? I think it took me about 17 hours on Hard mode, exploring almost every nook and cranny. This game is a real treat, a piece of absolute gold in this generally desolate market, and I think it's one of the best things I've ever experienced. Because sorry, outside of killing the few doctors he didn't do anything I wouldn't have done in the same situation during the course of this game. I don't see him as a bad man. I see him as a broken selfish man. He just took a little girl across all around the country and gave her, and himself, a family. He didn't want to lose another daughter. The Fireflies were ready to kill him if he so much as attempted to go there. This could've been easily avoided if they had let Ellie talk to Joel before but guess what they were being selfish too and gave neither Ellie nor Joel the opportunity to decide or say goodbye. This is a world full of looters, cannibals, rapers and zombies. Joel isn't by any means a good guy in my book, but an anti-hero/morally ambiguous character This was majorly his fuck-up but the Fireflies played a large part on how the events rolled out as well. Reveal hidden contents I've been thinking about it a lot, and reading a shittong of articles, and yeah he's definitely not a bad guy. It's more that the world is a very different place, and he dealt with it the only way he knows works. I suppose I was saying the "bad guy" thing because of the lie at the very end. I found that almost unforgivable. But when you think it through, it probably would have just made everything worse. Joel's innocent eyes... And when you replay the beginning it's all so much more poignant. This isn't just some of the best, most subtle character development I've ever seen in a game, but some of the best, most subtle character development I've seen ever. It reminds me of Of Mice And Men. Especially the two works' equally tragic ending note. The human condition, the human tragedy. Really, really incredible work from NaughtyDog. The lie bothered me, but it seemed completely necessary to spare her everything.It's strange how they managed that ending. Making you uneasy of how things wrapped up but at the same time making you sympathize with his decision. Hell, I even sympathized with Marlene's plight by the end. Rooting for Joel yet somehow not fully against Marlene...a strange thing.But by the end of it all, after the hell those two went through, it makes you wonder if humanity deserves to be saved. And as to the sequel I can see Reveal hidden contents Ellie figuring out that Joel lied to her either by evidence or by gut feeling, which she already has the latter. But I can also see a potential sequel taking place when she's an adult. All I know is that the lie is extremely hurtful but nothing a father wouldn't do to his/her child to spare them the pain. It's a different world sure, but nothing would've come from Joel telling her the truth outside of hurt feelings. At least like this he has the opportunity to live a happy life with her. Which again is very selfish but god damn if that's not complex character writing. I'm sure we were all expecting/hoping that Joel would let her go. It's pretty easy to sit there and judge Joel for what he did, but we haven't been through what he's been through for 20 years. Maybe after seeing the worst humanity had to offer for that long, he believed it wasn't worth saving at so high a cost. As for his lie to Ellie, I think it was for more than to spare her feelings. It was to save her life. If she knew the truth, I have no doubt that she would go right back and willingly sacrifice herself for humanity's sake, because she mentioned how she wanted to believe that everything she went through was for a greater purpose. Joel taking that choice away from her is indeed a selfish thing to do, but Ellie was practically his daughter by then. I've momentarily stop for the day because I experienced a glitch. It's after you meet Bill, or whoever in Lincoln. After you're out of the cemetery, you end up around those houses. I took out a common infected, Runners I believe they're called, and after smashing in his head, the screen went black and I got a tip on modding melee weapons. Then I find myself back at the last checkpoint. Suspicious, I checked my stats and it counted as a death. Anything similar happen to you guys? People have been saying this is a good "return to survival horror," but honestly, this is pure survival.
