Well when you think about it, how many bandit groups in the apocalypse would you expect to be very concerned with equal treatment for women?

Which is why I'm singling out the military groups. There's dialogue a plenty to show that Hunter groups are prone to enslave, rape, and/or murder women. As for the military (and Fireflies), we have evidence that female soldiers exist, but we don't actually fight any. Don't forget that orphanages were military academies too, and with little remaining quarantine zones, I wouldn't think soldiers would be picky as to who puts on armor and handles a rifle.

We have plenty of strong female survivors. Not only Tess and Marlene, but...

Well, answer number 2 then: Naughty Dog doesn't want the player to kill 200 human females in the gruesome way that you usually do cus that tends to make people uncomfortable. And whether they meant to or not, it makes the women that die in the game feel more significant.

Im not sure why we just dilly dally when the answer is obvious. It has nothing to do with the story. Im just trying to create some fiction around it for fun, otherwise...yeah. Easy.

I honestly have no idea other than Firefly/Fireflies is a cool name with a ring to it in their motto; the "look for the light," or whatever.

As for the plot...

Oh, no, I got all that. I didn't mean it as a negative. I just meant that it might be wrong to attribute meaning to something that was more about convenience than anything deeper. But the way it's presented suggests it has some significance, perhaps in how it goes from a sort of negative meaning to a positive one.

Really nice to see the creators addressing the criticisms and such here. KOTAKU WARNING: http://kotaku.com/zombies-women-citizen-kane-the-last-of-us-makers-de-679053634

Some of the feminist critique raised interesting points but really missed some glaringly obvious stuff. The 'women in the refrigerator' thing isn't about a revenge tale, plus if Ellie's character is female then Sarah has to be as well.

Yeah, it was a little distracting at times. In particular in the school, where I was stuck for way too long, and the first minute involved me sneaking to the same spot over and over, and Bill rushing after me and running face-first into the same clicker every time before moseying around him.

Without getting into any detailed opinions of things unfolding, I'll just say that I think TLoU is one of the finest achievements ever to come out of the medium, in my humble opinion. I was totally unprepared for the ride I was taken on. II expected a quality game, but this handily exceeded any expectations I was entertaining. Standing O for Naughty Dog.

Personally, I think if you're good at stealth, AI partner "scrambling" won't pop up a lot. I still got it a few times because some areas there isn't always a lot of cover for your partners close by you, so they'll run out in the open to then get beside you with your cover. This happened to me in the subway terminal with Tess where you have to take out the Clicker beside the exit. Ellie was right behind me, but Tess ran out, ran right beside the Clicker and came back to the cover I was behind.

Still beats the alternative of AI partners ruining your stealth. My stats show that I had partners die four times, but I know that's probably a glitch from restarting an encounter. Kinda like my random death I mentioned earlier in this thread.

Have you guys seen this link yet?  It's a look at who was supposed to be the villain as opposed to someone who I won't name for those of you who have not played the game yet.  It's an interesting read, and those of us who have played the game might find it interesting:  http://www.latestnewsexplorer.com/the-last-of-us-original-story-alternate-villain-revealed/

It definitely would not have worked. In the world of The Last of Us, no matter the amount of your hatred and/or villainy, you're not going to go chasing after a guy across the country. Once out of your territory, forget it. The only time something ends up reoccurring is by chance/fate, i.e. David.
