danielpholt
Just got my game in the post. Is anyone else experiencing a huge amount of noise from the disc tray? It's not whiring of fizzing, just seems to be vibrating a lot. PS4 is dead flat too..

SomTervo
Ooft, those are good and grisly. Look totally pre-rendered. Amazing. I'm waiting until I can sell off Watch_Dogs or some hardware until I get hold of it. It'll probably drop in price pretty rapidly anyway. I played it on Survivor a while ago last year and it sucked the first time. However, as much as I thought Survivor sucked, Grounded Mode is even worse. You literally get nothing every single time, and if you happen to come across ammo or any other items, it's usually one bullet or like a third of alcohol and it won't even do anything unless all you've been doing is collecting. This takes being stealthy to the next level. I've completed it twice on Survivor and loved it. My fave game mode and imho the best way to play the game. I'm super duper keen for Grounded mode. Super duper keen. The game becomes so much more intense and heart pumping when the stakes are so much higher. (I decided to save Grounded mode for Remastered, but maybe I'll just dip right in...) danielpholt
Just finished the game for the first time. Really dug it, and the story didn't take the twist I was expecting towards the end, which is always a pleasant surprise. The only niggle with the game was the shooting mechanic, and even that was a very minor nit-pick.
TCP
Yeah the entire game I was trying to figure out which one of these two were going to die, glad they didn't go that obvious.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, they totally nailed the ending.
Strangelove
My whole clan died. I was already on week 8. Fuck. Being able to kill 100% of the population is fucked up. I also hope they fix the matchmaking. It takes forever to get into a match.
TCP
Some more screenshots I took. I thought this church was especially beautiful: And the detail in this shot of Joel vs some glass:
Strangelove
That part of the game always blows me away(Joel vs glass). It just looks so goddamn good.
TCP
Even just the detail in his face, amazing. I'm surprised they didn't totally showboat with a ton of close ups.
Strangelove
It's almost indistinguishable from a cutscene. Its great.

Big part of what actually stopped me playing the multiplayer altogether. Possibly the only reason actually. Those stupid "fail this one task and ALL YOUR PROGRESS IS GONE" just sucks so much. SomTervo
Started my Grounded playthrough a couple of nights back. It's bloody amazing, and everything I hoped it would be. Even on Survivor, it's pretty easy to blunder into every scenario in the game and come out alive. Either unscathed or minimally hurt. Dealing with things going wrong was way easy. But on Grounded, it feels truly real for the first time. Like 1 or 2 shots will kill you, and letting a non-Clicker infected get up to you often means death. Gunfights are amazingly tense. Things going wrong really feels like things going wrong. Surviving, through tough stealth or no, feels like an actual achievement. You have to plan every encounter like a little puzzle, working out the best movements to make and order of targets to take down. Love it. Connorrrr
Finished it last night, as well as Left Behind which I did not play the first time. Beautiful addition to the main game. That game still manages to make me feel like someone has punched me right in the gut. Stunning, stunning game. I want to take the challenge of going through on a harder difficulty. I think I may give it a week or so and then go back in for Grounded mode.
TheMightyEthan
I wish they'd release Left Behind standalone on the PS4. I never played it on PS3 cause I rented it, but I don't want to buy the game at full price since I already played the main game.
SomTervo
It seems like such a no brainer to make it standalone. Surely it wouldn't be difficult and would work fine. Though I guess it's an addendum to the main game, so it might mislead people who haven't completed the original into buying it, thinking it's a standalone story. Thursday Next
It might also stop people from buying TLoU if they can get a short, playable demo for cheap. Better* to leave those who have never played with no option but to buy the full game than to lose them to a taster**. *from a business point of view. **assuming that the taster wouldn't be a gateway game for others who would otherwise not have bought TLoU. SomTervo
I don't think it would be a very successful taster considering half of the expansion's content takes place in medias res with the main game. All the Joel wounded and dying bits would probably ruin any sense of mystery surrounding where the full game might go. Though I guess the gameplay alone in Left Behind might sell it. Better than the full game in a lot of ways. Edited August 20, 2014 by kenshi_ryden

TCP
What a bad ass, look at that determination in his face. It's like he's saying "fuck Microsoft, and fuck you too Gabe Newell". SomTervo
Man that reminds me, I took a whole bunch of photos on this when I was replaying it. Better get uploadin'. I became morbidly obsessed with detonating nailbombs when enemies are nearby and taking horrific images of their gibbed bodies flying about. SomTervo
It's so win. Pretty snazzy that Mordor just added one, too. That'll potentially be better than TLoU's camera mode. Being emergent and open world and sandboxey and all.
IDDQD
Sorry to rain on your parade this late to the party guys, but I have something that's been bugging me ever since I finished this game. This is kind of spoiler heavy, so please don't read further unless you've finished the story. The Last of Us was fantabulous all around and I enjoyed every single moment. Right up until the ending. It was so disappointing I almost ate my foot in anger. People like to call it "challenging" but for me it was more like "f*cking cop-out". What's this about video game developers suddenly ending their great, engaging, story driven games with Sopranos? Mass Effect 3 is another example. I hate that. Just end a game with some kind of resolution, dammit! I could even swallow a sad, depressing ending when you die and fail but I'd be happy with it as long as I would get some kind of moral out of it. Instead we get a jerkoff and his surrogate daughter achieving nothing and learning even more nothing. Well, okay, maybe Joel learned that it's ok to be selfish, merciless murderer as long as it means filling an empty hole in your life and Ellie learned that chopping man's face with a hatchet because he just tried to rape and eat you will scar your mind for life. Gee, how uplifting... Besides, I really hated Joel in the end. All he did was kill a bunch of people and not only in self-defence but also with premeditation. Not to mention that he dismissed the probablitity of saving entire human race just to fulfill his own needs, while effectively crippling an organisation that was trying to actually cure the disease. I know it's debatable wether killing Ellie would actually produce any kind of viable cure and Fireflies seemed like a group of meanie heads themselves, but come on, dude. Wouldn't you at least take a chance? The world is ending. What's the point of having your stupid meaning in life if there's a fair chance that you won't even survive the next month? And besides, didn't Ellie actually submitted herself willingly to the procedure? Ok, maybe the point to all this was to show that in the end all human beings are just selfish, violent, ruthless animals, but f*ck off Last of Us. I don't want to be lectured by a videogame on something that's probably the most obvious thing in the universe. Either come up with something more than shallow preachiness or give us an ending that's not trying to be philosophical, because obviously whoever wrote this stuff felt like he was some hotshot Hollywood writer. Well, I'm not buing it. So what if the last of us will survive if the means to achieve that were morally questionable? I don't think that it's worth fighting for then. Humanity should strive to get beyond that. The situation that the characters were put in was a perfect test of humanity and they utterly failed. So yeah, I'm rambling, but what the hell, I'm frustrated by the ending of this game. Did anyone else felt the same way?
