peteer01
There's been talk about this in a few threads here, but I didn't see a thread specifically for it. I was kind of bummed that yesterday didn't have a single way to get coal/gifts without spending money if you didn't already have one of those games. I've done one on every other day, with a total of 18 completed so far. (I think that's pretty good for someone who's Steam account had one game and less than an hour logged before The Great Gift Pile started.) Kind of sad it's ending, I've enjoyed it a lot. :-)
peteer01
Anyone else see this? Please Note! If you unlock an achievement on or after 12/31 your prize will be a free Valve game, a coupon toward a Valve game, or Holiday Coal. Does that mean they're out of the non-Valve games and coupons? Maybe something worth keeping in mind for those of you who are wondering whether or not to smelt the rest of your coal or not. (Has this promotion been more successful than they expected?) TheMightyEthan
Heard about that this morning, though I didn't actually see it anywhere official. Wish I would have known yesterday before I smelted my coal.
peteer01
So...Encore day is pretty awesome. In addition to L.A. Noire that I'd already picked up yesterday for 75% off, I went ahead and picked up Deus Ex: Human Revolution (66% off) and Portal 2 (75% off). Now the only big ticket game I want is Skyrim, and I can decide if I should jump on that at $40.99 or just enjoy L.A. Noire, Portal 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution before buying another game! Does anyone know if any Bethesda coupons were given out as part of this promotion? I really want to hold off on buying Skyrim...and I think it's the smart thing to do...but I don't want to be buying Skyrim for $49.99 (or more) in February or March. Also, I completed 19 Objectives. I figure that's not bad for someone who's gaming PC still hasn't played a single game, didn't play games on PC, and who had one (and that was free) Steam game before this promotion started. Well played, Steam. Well played.
Cyber Rat
I have 33 objectives done and 9 coal in stock. I don't expect to win anything from the Great Prize draw, but I'd rather attempt that than smelt it for a Valve coupon.
peteer01
I don't expect to win anything from the Great Prize draw Speaking of which, I actually had to add a few more games to my wishlist to make sure I had 10 games in my wishlist. (50 people win the Top 10 items on their wishlist, but more importantly, "You must also have 10 items on your Steam wishlist at that time to qualify." I'd bought a few of the games on my wish list, and had dropped below 10. Not likely to matter, but glad to know my last two coal are entered in the drawing. TheMightyEthan
I've long had trouble keeping my wishlist at 10, which I've done now for several contests. I own everything on Steam that I know about that I'm very interested in, so my wishlist is a bunch of "yeah, I wouldn't mind playing that..." things mixed with a couple things that I'll buy eventually once the price drops. peteer01
I'm bummed that it wasn't possible to get an achievement on the 30th without buying a game. Seeing 6 remaining when everything else was 5 or less. I managed to do all but two for December 25th. Did anyone actually do all six for a given day? (It'd be cool if that guaranteed that person something decent.)
Cyber Rat
Nope, best I did was all but two objectives for a day.
P4: Gritty Reboot
Usually what happens with me is I'll add a game to my wishlist one morning at 2:30 AM, wake up and have no recollection of doing it. So my wishlist becomes this Frankenstein's monster of impulse adds that I don't actually want. Though that all changed with this recent contest as I finally added the stuff I really wanted.
