Games You've Beat in 2012

I believe there was an issue with the fact that many thought it was some kind of open world game. And also the sewer things requiring DLC/code thing.

I actually liked that it turned out to not be so open world. I loved Borderlands but the worst parts of it for me were the constant driving from one end of the map to the other. And the sewer levels were pretty skippable. I actually had to look up a map online because I couldn't find the damn entrances at first. And then they basically turned out to be a bunch of short levels you had to clear of enemies (you could do it a second time for some cash). Not really worth making a fuss about, honestly :/

Also, at least imo, it just wasn't fun to play.

Can you elaborate? What didn't you like about it?

The combat just sucked me right in. As soon as I started getting some decent guns, I just couldn't stop playing. Though I guess thinking back it kind of really picks up once you get to Wellspring. The first area you operate out of wasn't that memorable.

I dunno exactly, it just wasn't engaging to me. I was bored while playing it.

Shadows of the Damned, while 5-2 was a bit annoying and the last boss was disappointing, overall it's a fucking awesome game, loved the soundtrack, while some may consider it offensive/immature, I liked the humor of it, probably because it's not trying to be serious, it's pretty self-aware of what jokes it's telling and stuff.

Of course, due to the fact that is uses the Unreal engine there are some problems with textures taking a long time to appear, but that didn't bother me that much.

Also, I would love to see a sequel. \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/

Ha, I actually started playing that today. So far I'm really loving it as well. It kinda surprised me how well Suda 51's craziness, Shinji Mikami's RE4-style of gameplay and Akira Yamaoka's music all complement each other so perfectly. Really glad I took a chance on it when EA had a huge sale on Origin a couple of weeks ago as I think I'm really going to enjoy this one.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Overall it's not a bad game, I loved the visuals of his flesh just getting shot off and healing back over (though it had quirks where his top would also grow back...). It was nice to be able to rip folks apart, the "secret" areas were nice (though hardly secret), the combat was neat, nice to tear folks up in new ways, impale on spikes, blow em up, spin right through them. It did a good job of making you feel like wolverine.

But then some goon added in boss-fights. And they were terrible. The only decent boss-fights were the ones with the leviathan and wendigo, where they would eventually become normal enemies (though some goon also decided to throw in 4 wendigos at once, but at least the gave a special trophy for beating them). Pretty much all the one-off boss-fights had some quirk, some QTE or button mashing that was terrible. Normally cos the boss-fights threw all the game mechanics and moves out the window in order to learn the moves for a specific boss-fight, be it riding round Blob, taunting Sentinels to punch electrified plates, etc.

So yeah if you were to take out, or tweak, the boss fights it'd be a neat game. But with them it it goes from fun to infuriating to such a degree it ain't funny. I decided to look up the developer, see if they're in business still, turns out their current fate is making DLC maps for the COD games. I guess some higher-up at activision didn't like the boss fights either :P

Oh the jumping/platforming is a bit quirky too, but it's somewhat infrequent and far eclipsed by said boss fights.

Just beat Mass Effect 2. Managed to save my entire team. Think it helped that I went through and completed every last mission/assignment/exploration that I could before hitting the collector base. I hope the 3rd game is affordable for me, soon. I'm already antsy to continue the story.

I liked X-Men Wolverine too. You're a bit late to the party on that one though.

Speaking of late to the party. I just finished AC:R. Save from the very very end there were very few "Revelations" and even then it wasn't much more than we already knew.

Lucy being just dead was a bit of a shock. I thought there'd be something more to it. I suppose there still will be. Didn't they say something about not having a funeral or something? Cover up?

I got LoveFilm, I'm working on my console back log. (This image is a bit outdated now mind, guess I could update it...updated)

Feel free to make suggestions. (Oh some of these are added pretty much because if you added 10 new rents to your list that month you got a free credit)

Pretty much any console game I've beaten the last 4-5 months has been LoveFilm (i.e FFXIII-2, Uncharted 3, LA Noire)

I know you don't like paid DLC, but the Lost Archive DLC expands on some of that stuff. It's more of the first-person levels though, so if you didn't like those or just don't want to buy it you might be better off reading a synopsis.

@Dean: bump up the priority of 3D Dot Game Heroes, that game was great!

This was already my plan. I'll probably catch the ending on youtube.

The ending of the DLC isn't really anything at all, all the plot development is scattered throughout the levels.

Finished AC: Brotherhood yesterday. Feeling slightly bored with the series now, though I will be buying Revelations: ottoman edition when it hits £20 (or maybe £15).. Rather annoying that the trophies are glitchy and it autosaves. I had to start a new save to get some of the story related ones. glad it was only in sequence 2 not 8 or 9!

I will go back to try and get the multi-player trophies, and if I can will get the rest but for now I need a break. I don't like that some of the flags are in the romulus lairs so I've got to go back through those. I also didn't particularly like Rome, it didn't feel coherent somehow, and although there were different areas, I missed going to different cities.

Just finished Darksiders. I've been meaning to get that one done for some time. I really enjoyed it. I have always compared it to God of War, mostly because I have no experience with the Zelda games.

The combat is nowhere as deep as the combat in God of War, but the game makes up for it when you have the different weapons, skills and the seamless world.

I really enjoyed the game and I am looking forward to the sequel. Although I would prefer to play as War again, I'll wait to see what Death can do.

I did feel that the final boss fight was not as difficult as the few boss fights I had before, maybe I just got exponentially better?

Why not? Been playing through the first few hours of it... besides the terrible voice acting and scripting, which seems to be fairly common in most animes I've seen, the battle systems solid, and the art style is great. Kind of reminds me of Dragon Quest with a layer of bullshit overtop of it.

Well, I was planning on trying to beat Shadows of the Damned over the week-end but I started playing a couple hours ago and turns out I was much closer to the final boss than I thought.

Overall, it was a pretty fun action game. The final boss is fucking terrible, though. It was so incredibly frustrating but not because it was hard. It took me over 30mins to beat it and I didn't die once. It's just that the way the fight works, it can be a huge pain in the ass if for some reason you didn't upgrade a specific gun. I had not. At some point I even paused and went to gamefaqs to make sure whether I was doing something wrong or what. I wasn't, the fight is just designed so that some damage resets unless you can deal enough of it quickly enough and if you fail over and over, well... the fight can go on for fucking forever.

I could probably beat the fight very quickly now that I've found a way to manage with what I had but it was an annoying way to end what was otherwise a very fun game.

Abysmal VA aside (Jesus H. Christ), it's the story and characters. I guess I'm not the target demographic. My rantish thing from MSN:

it tries to be serious, but i can't take it seriously. even when it tries, it always comes in with some comic relief to ruin it

or asbel is all I MUST SAVE ALL MY FRIENDS

and i'm like HEY I DIDN'T KNOW I BOUGHT A NARUTO GAME

then there's that awkward shounen romance that isn't really romance but the two "romantic" characters sometimes blushing at one another and maybe a comment or two from the other characters

and an entire dungeon of poop jokes.

poop jokes.

I had all upgrades by the time I reached the final boss so it was easy for me. :P But I agree, it should've been done some other way, though in general, boss fights in this game were incredibly easy. :P

Oh, totally. The bosses were ridiculously easy for the most part. I don't even feel like the final one was hard. I just got screwed over because I hadn't upgraded the dentist, or whatever the automatic one is called. I also wasted a lot of time figuring the damage I was dealing was cumulative when it wasn't.
