toxicitizen
Well, what do you mean by writing specifically? The tone and type of humor is different for sure but the narrative structure (if you can even call it that) is identical: i.e. all the information and exposition is delivered by a single off-screen character constantly talking to you. TheMightyEthan
I mean the actual words that people say. *Edit* - How much sense would it make to talk about the wittiness of the narrative structure? toxicitizen
So you meant dialog. That's more the tone than the writing, which encompasses more than just the spoken words But yeah, I don't feel like that invalidates the comparison at all. The game is basically a spiritual successor to Portal ( not sure if you know this, but Kim Swift is making QC and she was lead on the original Portal team that got hired by Valve). TheMightyEthan
I know that, but if they're not going for the same kind of feel in the dialog as in Portal then it's meaningless to compare them.
toxicitizen
Why? Because the narrator character isn't antagonistic? Because the humor is a bit more childish? I don't know, I really don't see anything there that drastically differentiates the two.
「Advent Chaos」
That last stage without any checkpoints began to irritate me, but it was still super fun. I still have to get as many Red Rings as possible and complete the "Sonic Simulator" which I still don't understand what it's for... Planet Wisp is the only world which I have all S ranks and IT FEELS GOOD
TheMightyEthan
Why? Because the narrator character isn't antagonistic? Because the humor is a bit more childish? I don't know, I really don't see anything there that drastically differentiates the two. Let me spell it out as clearly as I can: People are criticizing the dialog in Quantum Conundrum because it is not as sharp and witty as Portal. It's not TRYING to be sharp and witty like Portal. Ergo it's a bad comparison. And let me be clear that the criticisms I've read are not "it was a bad decision to get away from Portal's kind of humor", because that would be a very valid criticism, they're "it's bad because they tried to be like Portal and failed". But they weren't trying. It'd be like criticizing Aliens for failing to create the same kind of horror movie atmosphere as Alien. Maybe you think from a design standpoint it was a bad decision to change the tone of the movie, and that's fine, say that, but they did not "fail" to create the same tone. toxicitizen
Then you really weren't being very clear. It seemed like you were saying "this hat is blue and this other hat is clearly red, so you can't compare the two!", which came across as kind of stupid. But just because some idiots make assumptions about what the game was going for doesn't mean there isn't a comparison to be made, even if we're only talking about the tone and dialog. I thought QC's dialog was pretty boring whereas it was one of Portal's biggest strength. And considering the two games are extremely similar in every other respect, it's not that far-fetched to say "I'm disappointed because the writing wasn't as good as in Portal", especially since it was created by the same person. TheMightyEthan
Right, and that's fine if you disagree with their choices for the tone of the dialog and whatnot, I was just responding to what I had read where people were saying that it tried and failed to have Portal's sense of humor. toxicitizen
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Holy crap was that an awesome game. No doubt the most fun I've ever had playing an RTS campaign. Can't wait for Heart of the Swarm now. Sadly, I don't think it's very likely to release in 2012.
「Advent Chaos」
Just this morning! AND IT ONLY TOOK ME A WHOLE YEAR. I've still got a bunch of stuff to do in-game and improve my pokemon team, but details baby.

Luftwaffles
Sadly, I don't think it's very likely to release in 2012. I wouldn't be surprised if it did. What they showed at MLG looked pretty refined, and I believe they've said in the past the SP is at 99% completion or something. Would make sense if they delayed release after this whole Diablo 3 fiasco, but that and some MP balancing seems to be the only things holding it back right now. Would make sense if they delayed release after this whole Diablo 3 fiasco, but that and some MP balancing seems to be the only things holding it back right now. According to recent interviews, it sounds like the SP is finished and the remaining 1% is all about balancing and fine turning the MP, which is slow and long. Something like StarCraft needs to be balanced for the pro level more than for the casual players, so they have to be very careful with it. But more importantly, I don't recall whether it was an official announcement or something that was said during an investors call or what, but a few months back they said that they were expecting to release 2 titles in 2012. Diablo III was obviously the first one and considering the Mists of Pandaria beta has been going on for a few months already whereas the HotS beta doesn't even have a starting date yet, it seems like MoP is much more likely to be the other one. So yeah, I'm not really holding my breath for an announcement any time soon. Would love to be proven wrong, though. TheMightyEthan
Over the last several days I beat Gravity Rush (platted it also), Escape Plan and Mecho Wars. Gravity Rush was awesome, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a Vita. I loved Mecho Wars, but I think that's mostly because I love Advance Wars so much and it's a pretty good (if simplified) clone. Escape Plan was good enough that I don't regret buying it, though it wasn't anything to write home about. *Edit* - Definitely not regretting my Vita purchase though, which is actually kind of unusually for me. deanb
Red Faction: Armageddon Lacking the sort of sandbox/playground of Guerrilla kinda sucks. But weapons are pretty much all there n fun to play around with, though there does end up with a fair bit of reliance on the infinite ammo of the magnet gun. Oh there's a few stages that are a pain in the butt, mainly the "on rails" type segments. Though there's also bits that are kick ass, mainly the ones where you're in a mech suit/plane/walker n thus equipped with high health, n turrets n rocket launchers/death rays/stuff. Decent rental though I'm not sure I'd recommend a purchase beyond £5. Oh and it's a project $10 type game, so the "blow everything up n get high scores" mode is locked to "demo mode" (and maybe the MP, didn't check on that)

It's one of the best, if not the best FPS/TPS stories I've played since COD4. The mechanics are a bit clunky, and it seems like the multiplayer is tacked on and forgettable, but the SP is absolutely fantastic.
