Luftwaffles
It's one of the best, if not the best FPS/TPS stories I've played since COD4. Do you mean the narrative/plot is good, or the singleplayer campaign is good? I mean it tells its story well. I mean, on one hand it is still a military shooter, and if you don't like them you won't like this, but there are some nice elements added in that I think certain other shooters are missing. Notably, I almost feel bad shooting guys, and the game isn't afraid to have your main character make some terrible terrible mistakes. What sticks out in my mind is one section where (I wouldn't recommend reading unless you don't have any interest in the game) your character drops white phosphorous on a bunch of civilians and then has to walk through the carnage . Stuff like that, I guess.
TheMightyEthan
Hmm, I may have to try it out... *Edit* - Not for 50 bucks though. *Edit 2 * - Also, just beat Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers. I thought the cutting mechanic was really cool, but the level design/puzzles just didn't really do it for me. Decent game, but not fantastic. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Spec Ops: The Line. Holy shit. Holy shit good? or Holy Shit bad? I'm interested in the game, but the actual promo trailer makes me less interested. I've heard things going both ways too. Holy shit good. TCP
Just finished MGS3 for the first time. Even though some of the game features haven't aged great... and the Russians had American accents, I still thought it was a pretty great game. Strangelove
Funny little detail I learned years after the game came out, but they're actually all speaking Russian. Stuff like the codec calls are obviously english and probably some of the conversations with the Boss and Ocelot, but when Snake talks to people like Sokolov or Granin, he's speaking Russian, but we hear it in English. That's why they don't even have accents. The funny thing is that it's only pointed out once. Sokolov actually tells Snake that his Russian is excellent during the Virtuous Mission. Yet there is absolutely no Russian being spoken. Edited July 11, 2012 by Strangelove
TCP
Yeah, I remember that now. I suppose I'm just use to the Assassin's Creed way of keeping it in English but using accents.
TheMightyEthan
That's how movies often do it too.
Strangelove
That's how movies often do it too. Really? I can't say I remember any film doing that. Every time there are characters who speak a different language they either speak it and the film uses subtitles or the character conveniently also know English, but with an accent. I'm sure it exists though. Like everything else, konima probably got the idea from a film.
TheMightyEthan
No, sorry, I meant that movies usually have them speaking English but with the accent from whatever language they're supposed to be speaking (like Germans on-screen speaking English with a German accent when they're "actually" speaking German). Strangelove
I find that kind of offensive in a way. Well, im not offended by it, but im kind of surprised others arent.
TheMightyEthan
Why would that be offensive?
Strangelove
I'm...not sure. Im just surprised no ones found a reason to be offended by it yet.
TheMightyEthan
I liked it quite a bit, enough that I'll probably get Killzone 3 at some point. I'm excited to have something to play with the Move, assuming the lightgun controls work as intended.
Strangelove
KZ3 is the best game for Move. It's great. I dont have the sharpshooter, but the sharpshooter was made specifically for it.
CorgiShinobi
I was thinking yesterday about Killzone 3 and its multiplayer. Back when I was excited to get the Helghast Edition with all those bonuses, then to have the online not be as fun and varied as Killzone 2. Well, not until the retro maps came about, but then the classes themselves were rather tame to the previous set. EDIT: The single player is still great fun, just don't try to pay attention to the story. It's really hard, and I mean really it is, to sympathize with the "heroes." Faiblesse Des Sens
I wonder if that's the point. The whole "war is terrible for everyone" thing.
CorgiShinobi
I wonder if that's the point. The whole "war is terrible for everyone" thing. There is that, but then there's... the accidental near total annihilation of a planet's population.
Strangelove
The history of Helghast is ridiculously detailed. I think it's pretty clear that the war started off badly and degenerated into a mess on both sides, yet in the present the Helghan have become the aggressors. The ISA arent the same people who initially fucked up, so that's why you play someone like Sev, someone who is indeed a "good guy." I guess theyre trying to point out how little sides matter in war and how people in the present have to deal with the mistakes people made in the past. Cleaning up other people's shit basically. That's the one thing Ive always enjoyed about Killzone as far as space marine shooters or whatever go- it's that your enemy isn't an alien race. They were human like you. Its not even really a planet or nation against another planet or nation because both sides are actually human companies. Sure, it changed over the years and now it could potentially be said that it's humans vs "aliens", but its nice to see a different origin for it. It's more grounded than a lot of other scifi. TheMightyEthan
KZ2's narrative was not one of the highlights of the game for me; it just took itself way too seriously but didn't do a good job of being serious. I spent a lot of the game laughing at things that I don't think the writers intended me to laugh at. Good gameplay is all I'm after with this one. Alex Heat
Obligatory joke about essentially finishing a movie. Didn't 100% it like Asura's Wrath, but I beat it.
Thursday Next
Platinumed Uncharted: Golden Abyss on Friday. Now that is a thoroughly beat game.
toxicitizen
Finally got around to playing all the episodes of Back to the Future. Because the most logical thing to do during a Steam sale is to play something out of my backlog, of course. I'd already played the first episode and half the second one when they first came out, but the wait between them kinda took me out of the story so I ended up waiting for them all to come out and then kinda forgot about it for a while. Started over from the beginning and played an episode a day. It was on the easy side (I remember Tales of Monkey Island being a bit harder), but I'm a huge BTTF fan so I still had a blast . I know Telltale have their next few projects lined up already, but I really hope they get around to making a second season. Especially with that ending. Think I'll have to give Sam & Max a shot next. The only other Telltale adventure game I'd played to completion before BTTF was Tales of Monkey Island and I really enjoyed that one as well. I just bought The Walking Dead, too, but I'm hesitant to start it right away since only two episodes are out.
