TheMightyEthan
Jurassic Park: The Game. I enjoyed it, though I'm glad I didn't specifically buy it (got it for free for subscribing to PS+). Graphics were some of the worst I've seen this gen, voice acting was bad, and pre-caching was terribad. There were frequent pauses of 1-5 seconds between input sequences, which really destroyed the flow of the action scenes.
TCP
*cough*Gran Tursimo*cough* Is Gran Tursimo really a bigger franchise than Uncharted nowadays? The reception to GT5 was lackluster to say the least, that game came and went and no one has really spoken of it since. On the other hand, Uncharted 3 was released over 3 months ago and there's still a ton of buzz for that game. I'd say Uncharted, followed by something like God of War and LittleBigPlanet or Infamous maybe.
deanb
7.3million comapred to Uncharted 3's 4million. Gran Turismo is consistently the best selling Playstation franchise. (Metal Gear Solid has also done well for itself too on PS consoles). Thing is Gran Turismo is cars, and cars are popular. They're not really something that gaming sites are into, much as sport games don't tend to get much coverage either. Gran Turismo Prologue also has outsold the Uncharted games too, so it's not just the full release of GT5.
TCP
How much did Uncharted 3 sell in NA? You'd think at this point it'd be past 1.8 million. Also, that link says 3.8 million on it's first day in stores. Edited January 22, 2012 by TheCowboyPoet
deanb
I don't know, go hunt it down. Uncharted 2 did 4million too. Either way GT is most likely still out on top, especially as a franchise. Naughty Dog have pretty much only ever done three games in one franchise(minus the lack of "UnKarted"), then moved onto a new franchise the next gen. Of course with this gen being longer seems they're doing some filling in with Last of Us instead of a fourth Uncharted.
TCP
I still don't think Gran Turismo is as popular as Uncharted. 4 million copies, Dean, in it's first day alone! Gran Turismo did 7 million (only 1.8 million in North America!!) in over a year.
deanb
The demo sold 5 million. It's consistently come out top, it'll have the long tail compared to Uncharted.
TCP
Maybe if you're looking at it from a European perspective, but in North America, I think people have moved on.
deanb
Well also moved on to Xbox.
TCP
Ha! Yeah, that's probably a bit of it too Anyways, yeah Naughty Dog might not develop it, but considering what a formula Sony has Uncharted down to, I can definitely see another this console cycle... whether or not we actually need one. But hopefully we'll see another Vita one before. Ideally with multiplayer. Anyways, sorry for hijacking this thread!!!!!!
peteer01
Portal 2 Very good. Not surprised, but impressed that they managed to make it a worthy successor to the original.
DocSeuss
You have no reason not to buy Orcs Must Die, people. It's fantastic, hilarious, and just damn fun. I wish there was more of it. A lot of the guys who worked on it are Age of Empires vets, which is really cool. Dead Island was pretty shit. The story was stupid, melee is dumb, and I've watched my bullets shoot impact at a 45 degree angle from where I've been firing. It's alright for co-op, I suppose, but I didn't like it. It's deleted now and in my Z folder on Steam (from which few games return). I've "beaten" Payday: The Heist, in that I've completed all missions at least once. I really quite like it. It can get a bit annoyingly hard, especially with your AI friends sucking and the enemies having laser-perfect accuracy, but at the same time, it does a lot of things better than the Left 4 Dead games. It lets you highlight special units, for one thing. You can do extra bits, like taking out security cameras (though I'm not sure this has any gameplay benefit), and the missions are all widely varied. One mission had me rescuing a guy from a bridge with a Fulton Skyhook. Another one had us ramming an armored truck into the roof of a nearby butcher shop, where we had to drill it open (as it hung precariously through the roof) and steal the gold. Really cool game, and definitely worth picking up.
Yantelope V2
Finally finished Skyward Sword. Batman AC is up next on my list.
excel_excel
Finished Kirby and the amazing mirror for GBA on my 3DS. Really enjoyed that one, a bit of metroid in there with the way the environments are all linked and it wasn't as easy as ALL kirby games are
Strangelove
Got my MGS3 HD platinum. I feel so accomplished.. /noIdon't
deanb
Bulletstorm It's a game I really like, it is how I'd have imagined DNF was meant to come out like. I'm a bit sad we'll probably not see stuff like the "Skillshot" system in place in other games. The ending kinda sucks balls since the game would have done fine on its own but it's set up for a sequel (that I hear is likely to never come). It's a fun game, it actually innovates within the somewhat stale FPS genre. It's nice to be sliding about, pulling enemies into spikes on the wall, kicking them into cables or just wrapping them up with an explosive chain. Also I got 26/28 of the news bots :/
Luftwaffles
Also I got 26/28 of the news bots :/ I got 27 and raged so hard at the end. I bet the one I missed was right in front of my eyes...
deanb
I swear I heard one, but couldn't find it, it seemed to be above me so I think it may have glitched out.
Luftwaffles
Bastion. Bought it on launch, for some reason stopped 2 levels away from the end a few weeks ago and just finished it up today. It's good, really good, but I'm sure you all know that already. It is one of those games for me, though, like Portal 2, where I don't really have any desire to go and replay it, though. I will eventually to see the other ending, but probably not anytime soon. TheMightyEthan
Portal 2 has little replay value because the fun is in solving the puzzles, which you can only really do once. I'm not really sure what all the fuss about Bastion is about. I played the demo, and while the narrator is very cool the actual gameplay was just meh. Strangelove
Yeah, I havent bought Portal 2 yet. Maybe once its 20 bucks. I loved the game, but there is only once solution toe very puzzle. I still want to own it though. And I felt the same way about Bastion. I played the beginning of it and it seemed pretty run of the mill. Maybe once you play it longer it gets deeper and you have tons more options or something. I dunno. Hot Heart
Yeah, the game becomes a bit more challenging and there are a fair few weapons along the way. Plus, it looks great and the music is superb.
TheMightyEthan
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. 4.5 hours total. That's like an FPS. Glad I only paid $5 for it. I mean, it was fun, but there just is not enough game there. Definitely inferior to the first.
Battra92
FIrst game beat of 2012 ... Bonk's Adventure. Yep, I'm 22 years behind on this one but hey, I never had a TG16 and I bought this on the Virtual Console ages ago and just got around to playing it. It's a great game and I recommend everyone with a Wii spend the $6 and get it! It's well worth it. Just play it with a Classic Controller, though.
