Buying it? For what system?

37 members have voted

  1. 1. Will you buy Borderlands 2?

    • Definitely!
    • Probably at/around launch
    • Probably, at some point (if goes on sale and I need a new game)
    • Probably not
    • No.
  2. 2. If you buy it, what system will you buy it for?

    • PC
    • PS3
    • Xbox 360
    • There is absolutely no way I'm buying it.

That's pretty much what my SMG is for, but if I happen to find a pistol that can match my normal Vladof with a Corrosive ability, I could easily set aside having an SMG. Zer0 is like Mordecai's character: pistols and sniper rifles are the "class" weapons. Considering that SMGs don't nearly reload as fast as pistols, it has been a pain to reload when taking out Loaders.

I once did keep different types of sniper rifles, but even at my level, a lot of the elemental sniper rifles have low damage compared to my normal one. I mean, if anything I'll want to find a good Lightning one, and sometimes a Corrosive one comes along. I'm not fond of Fire in general to be honest because I'm usually able to take out enemies just as effectively with normal bullets, though the benefit of letting elemental damage conserve ammo is always good.

I don't know if I've reached that certain part you're talking about Dean, though there have been many boss encounters where there is an Ammo Dump and Med station very close. I just finished up Where Angels Fear To Tread and I was properly prepared... I mean I didn't even use all the ammo drops, and an NPC giving me ammo wasn't as helpful.

Anywho, I found the easter egg pistol Gwen's Head... It's literally my best pistol right now, and last night I had a glitch where my pistol ammo wasn't depleting. All of Sawtooth's bandits felt PAIN, MUHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!

@Dean: If you're talking about the main story mission Dean then yeah, caught me by surprise too the first time but warned my friend today as we were playing co-op.

And honestly if you're buying weapons you might as well do slot machines. I spent about 11000 today [difference after buying and selling crappy slot rewards] and I now have a shotgun and a pistol that absolutely freaking rape. I also got an orange pistol [low level but eh] with a lot of corrosive damage so I'm keeping it for a while.

I think Dean still has a worse boss to come (in Tundra Express). That was annoying because the damn thing exploded me off the side of the cliff the first time, right when I had its health down, ready to finish it off. Then I respawn and it's back to full health and shields.

If I'm correct, the boss Dean was talking about was when I actually really appreciated the 'RPGness' of it. I had a three sniper rifle routine that made very short work of it. Though, obviously, it's not the same for every character.

But I do actually think some areas are 'annoyingly' designed, with no vending machines when you want to rid yourself of vendor trash, and especially when enemies respawn when you're on your way back out. I'm not sure Gearbox even realises how irritating some of their design decisions are when it comes to enemy patterns either (just come here and let me smack you, stupid Stalker!)

It's the thresher that ate the fast-travel machine. With the high health, small critical shot eyes, rapidly healing shield, and the ability to burrow really close, even through solid concrete which they're not meant to do as a general rule.

The hub would be Sanctuary. Where I could spend my eridium on more ammo slots n maybe more appropriate weapons but not got that chance anymore until I beat this guy. Also got a couple missions to turn in too which might help level me up, but they're on Sanctuary. Game just up and takes it away from you with zero warning. Which is a funny contrast to see since I'm playing FFXII too and that has windows warning you of points of no-return n at save points too.

Yeah, that's where I was really happy with my set-up as Zero.

Basically, I used Deception to buff the first hit, which stripped its shields. Then switched to a slag sniper rifle before using a firestarting one to knock its health right down. It ducked underground and reemerged with a full shield, I repeated the process once more and it died.

But it is funny how differently the game can play depending on what weapons and items you get as well as your character build. I know I was struggling really early on, and I still get overwhelmed if I'm not careful.

I've only had problems with threshers in one of the side missions. It had a time limit and I got ambushed by a ton of them at one of the locations I had to go, not even my turret could help me there. :P

Now, for annoying enemies, nothing beats rats IMO, there's always a ton of them, they can deal a ton of damage, steal all the loot before you even get to it and then there's the lab rat which goes all cyclops on you when you let it get close and that attack can easily kill you.

I think I know the mission (Arms Dealing?). Fortunately, I have Deception, which gave me enough time to achieve my goal. :P

I don't know if you've since completed it, but it might be worth going to the locations and clearing out the enemies first. That seems to work sometimes.

And, yeah, rats are damn annoying. Especially when I'm more about heavy-hitting single shots and they're all skittering and dodging about.

Fuck that Thresher. Fuck Gearbox for not signposting that they'll take the hub away for a decent chunk of game. Fuck not placing ammo shops next to bosses. "So you couldn't kill it the first time? Well try again but this time with less ammo, and less cash to buy ammo/guns/shields"

You won't like Dark Souls.

And speaking of threshers: it's nothing compared to this thing

Yeah, it was that mission, I already completed it but it took me a couple of tries before I decided to kill everything there before startng the mission. :P

My thresher strategy:

1) Drop a turret

2) Run away

That usually works for me, but sometimes my turret doesn't last more than a couple of seconds, specially when there are badass threshers around.

Haha. So I just got a very nice weapon as a reward, but it turns out it was a trap! I sold the sniper rifle it replaced only to discover much later that this one has a voice, which it uses to chastise me for everything I do! :P

Isn't that the gun Hyperion gives you? You have only yourself to blame.

My Thresher strategy?

-Pistol

-Alive? Melee

Also, I've been earning so much Eridium that I wasn't tempted at all to kill myself in "Kill Yourself."

The BFF optional mission though? Lawd, that took me some time to figure out. If any of you want to know the answer, or why the answer is how it is, I'll explain it. Shield was kind of useful for a bit, but I found something better later on. I should post my equipment tomorrow or something...

Yeah, I don't know if you get more experience if you get it right, like how you get more experience for not killing yourself in Kill Yourself, but you'll always get the shield. One thing I noticed is that the stats for weapons will change if you happened to quit before saving your current status. I did this to compare Moxxi's Rubi and the sniper rifle Mordecai was going to give me. I decided on the sniper rifle, but the second time it had changed.

P.S.

Mechromancer Skill Tree

Some people are in a fuss because there are pony references. Have a thousand references in a single game, but dear lord you mention something about ponies and it becomes a disaster!

Mechromancer will be available later today!

Tonight I took on Saturn by myself (I swear, my Internet must suck...) and literally melee'd its foot before I died. It gave me the best shotgun to take on all the loaders and other Hyperion enemies. However, I think after so many Second Winds, your Fight For Your Life duration is shortened. I almost made it to the goal, when a SGT Loader took me out. I literally had about 3-4 seconds to take out an enemy... one more shot would have done it too.

Yeah, the random factor seems to play into everything. First time I got Gwen's Head it was firestarting but pretty rubbish so I screencapped it (for posterity) and then sold it. Then the box (WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!) reappeared later and contained a much better version but without an element. Well, it turns out everything in The Dust had had a level boost, which was nice except for the fact that I only learned this after I ramped into the central bandit camp thinking I knew where I was going on a quest.

But I got out unruffled and with four great new shields. Only, they're all great in different ways and now I can't decide between them...

Been like that since BL1
