Strangelove
Videogame bosses, lets us talk about them why not. Videogame bosses have gotten pretty bad in the last decade(if the game even has them), so let's relive some awesome bosses from the past or some current bosses we may have overlooked. Favorite bosses, worst bosses, hidden bosses, weird bosses, hard bosses, easy bosses, non-bosses, midbosses, whatever. Do it. Spiderman/Batman was an awesome boss in The Revenge of Shinobi. Cyber Rat
I'm gonna post some more stuff later, but for now, I don't think any video game boss discussion is complete without mention SNK bosses. Like, fuck that shit...
Strangelove
Oh God... SNK Vs Capcom SVC Chaos was a bad fighting game all around, but that boss(Mr. Karate I think). Sheesh. It knew the goddamn future.
MasterDex
I really enjoyed the FFVII, VIII and IX end-game bosses. It's too late to think of any more but good thread idea! I'll be back!
TheMightyEthan
Halo 2's bosses were goddamned terrible. Not even that they were hard, just that they really disrupted. The flow of the game.
Strangelove
I made this thread because someone on Kotaku said the Reaper boss at the end of ME2 was bad. I liked it a lot. We dont get those kind of bosses in games anymore.
TheMightyEthan
I didn't especially like or dislike that boss. Though in general I prefer to deal with larger numbers of normal enemies rather than one super powerful one. Course I love Shadow of the Colossus so that's not true 100% of the time. P4: Gritty Reboot
I'm on the fence about bosses: I can remember some good ones, but often when a boss fight comes up in a game I'm just hoping to get it over quickly so I can get back to the meat of the gameplay. Still, here are a few that were done right: Just about every Metroid Prime boss was a joy, but this one sticks in my mind: The Ocarina of Time Ganondorf/Ganon double-punch is of course legendary: Portal 2's final boss was great in that it didn't abandon the gameplay concepts that came before it, but instead integrated everything the player had learned up to that point into its challenge. EDIT: ME2's boss... I dunno, I about single-shotted it with my nuke gun. It seemed kind of silly and over-the-top, even for the Mass Effect universe. The overall ending was satisfying, just not sure how I felt about that particular boss. just that they really disrupted. The flow of the game. Not sure if intentional, but upvoted all the same.
toxicitizen
I see people complaining about boss fights very often, but personally I love them. They're by no means necessary, but I definitely enjoy a good boss fight. The God of War series has some great ones. They're not particularly unique and usually pretty simplistic but I think they're just crazy fun. Of course, unlike most people I have absolutely nothing against QTEs, so it's possible I'm in the minority here. Then there's the Metal Gear Solid series. I'm a huge fan of it, but most of the boss fights in it are either too easy or just annoying. Except for the sniping boss fight in MGS3. That one is just such a unique experience and I don't think any other game has come close to pulling off something so diffferent in terms of boss fights. I replayed the game last month and methodically crawling around scanning the jungle for 15mins only to finally spot the old bastard and shoot him right in his fucking head is still as satisfying as it was 8 years ago. The ones from MGS4 were just awful, though. Well, the two against Ocelot were pretty cool, especially the final one. But the Beauty and the Beast ones? Just... blergh. Whenever I replay the game I just load up on RPG ammo and one shot them. Oh and I also liked the ME2 reaper one. It had a kind of old school feel to it that I thought was really cool. Mal
The Beauty and the Beast bosses? I just railed them with the railgun after I got it. Dohohoho... but seriously, I liked the Crying Wolf battle where you actually get the railgun. Maybe it was nostalgia for Shadow Moses and fighting someone like Sniper Wolf. Also... Did someone say Mid Boss!?

Strangelove
Hmm. Weird. MGS bosses to me are a big part of why I love those games. Theyre just always very clever. Psycho Mantis in MGS1, The End, The Fury, MG Ray Vs. MG Rex, etc.
Saturnine Tenshi
I really enjoyed Heavenly Sword's boss fight with King Bohan.

Psycho Mantis in MGS1, The End, The Fury, MG Ray Vs. MG Rex, etc. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention Mantis. But I did mention The End and Ray vs Rex as being particularly good. Can't say I'm a fan of The Fury, though. Actually, now that I think of it, the Cobras always felt pretty generic and uninspired to me. Especially The Fear and The Pain. And I thought all four of the B&B from MGS4 were even worse in that regard.
BrainHurtBoy...2
YHVH in Shin Megami Tensei 2 was fucking crazy! I love that shit! Also, Thor in SMT 1. When I first fought that battle, I was like "I am in for some shit with this game!" Kefka in FFVI. No explanation necessary. Psycho Mantis, obviously. Dracula in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Liquid in MGS4. Ganon from Wind Waker. Holy fucking shit. Giygas in Earthbound. Fuck yeah. Yiazmat. That about covers it.
