MetalCaveman
After a ton of rumors, leaked images and more, it's been confirmed that Resident Evil 6 will be released on November 20 of this year (at least, for PS3 and 360, not sure on the release date for PC),here's the trailer: Confirmed playable characters so far are Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield and some other dude that I think is a new character in the franchise. http://www.siliconer...esident-evil-6/ "The story takes place ten years after the Raccoon City incident where Leon Kennedy is working with the President of the United States when he suddenly transforms. Meanwhile, Chris Redfield is in China, which under threat of a bioterrorist attack. Confirming earlier rumors, Leon and Chris will work together for the first time along with new characters." Personally, I think the trailer looks awesome, it's basically what I was hoping for, the gameplay/controls or Resident Evil 4/5 and the return of zombies. http://www.nohopeleft.com/ Edit: http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2012/01/19/resident_evil_6_confirmed_with_lengthy,_amazing_trailer " Based on the trailer, we can see Leon investigating a small town that's suffered a Raccoon City-like infestation, while Chris heads to China for an all-out assault on the front lines. These two play styles merge to form what executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi calls "dramatic horror," which fuses action, tension and scares in a brand new way." Strangelove
Fuck yes. You can walk AND shoot at the same time now. It's a revolution!! Seriously though, it looks awesome. Everyone shits all over RE5, but its probably one of the funnest RE around. I wonder if theyre going to shoehorn in co-op again. Single player in RE5 was such a bummer because of co-op. Make them separate modes or....something.
toxicitizen
I also liked RE5 a lot, but after having replayed RE4 a few months ago, well, it puts into perspective a lot of what made RE5 disappointing. This, though. This is looking fucking awesome. Still appears to be action heavy, but anyone still expecting a proper survival horror game from Capcom at this point is either naive or stupid. So no big surprise there. But yeah, Resident Evil is a staple of my childhood so I'm always going to get excited for a new main entry in the series. But after RE5, I honestly didn't expect to be this damn excited as soon as they revealed RE6. But I'm really liking what I just saw. Especially the Nemesis/Tyrant vibe I'm getting from that huge monster dude. Fuck that Ouroboros shit from RE5. It sucked how almost every single boss was pretty much the same mass of black gelatinous crap. Bring back proper zombies and mutated freaks with giant eyeballs in all the wrong places and I'll be happy. And yeah, I really hope they don't build it around co-op again, though. Resident Evil is a single-player experience as far as I'm concerned and 5 constantly felt like I was "playing it wrong" by insisting to play alone. FMW
This looks so exciting! I don't see anything particularly "new" here in the trailer, but I do see a combination of things I've liked in Resident Evils of the past. Leon Kennedy? Cool! Is that... Ashley the president's daughter? Awesome! And look at those old school gross zombies, much better than the RE 5 foes. I dig it. I guess the thing they showed that was farthest from RE norm was the new character who has magic blood or something and was killing zombies via kung-fu. It doesn't sound particularly compelling to me, but the jury will remain in session until more information is available. They really need to get new voice actors though. This wasn't NEARLY hammy enough for Resident Evil's lofty standards. Chris did okay I guess, his dialogue was stilted enough that he gets a pass. The other voice actors need to step it up! Mal
Looks like Leon will tumble with traditional T-virus creatures. Chris is dealing with Las Plagas-type enemies. The new dude... a mix. Should be good since with the traditional zombies and current hardware, they can certainly flood the area with zombies which looks like they will (<3). Plagas are Plagas... they gotten a bit stale. I wonder if we'll face a G-creature... I feel if they separate out co-op and single player, they will have Leon/Chris as single player and the new dude as co-op. As for the new guy... perhaps he's immune to infection? AND YES I AM A BIT EXCITED. I so want this to be good and scary... I want my <10 years old cousins to be scared of this game dammit! There is something wrong when a little kid can play RE5 no problem! RE5 was fun for sure but was in no way scary. Cyber Rat
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/01/19/who-else-is-making-resident-evil-6/ I liked Resident Evil 4, but Resident Evil 5 was literally the same only smaller with co-op and no Stranger :/ I hope RE6 is better. excel_excel
Looks exhilarating, and the metro setting looks way better than 5's. Seems it still has co-op, hope they've improved that for single player. Can't wait, but you never know what Capcom might do to infuriate us. Mal
So I've just heard from word of mouth that Leon and Chris scenarios each will be as long as RE5. Are they doing what I think they are doing back when we had two disks...?
toxicitizen
That doesn't sound right... I mean, don't get me wrong, it would be fucking awesome. But I don't recall RE5 being particularly short, and I would be very surprised if Capcom actually put what is essentially two full-length campaigns in a single release. Doesn't fit with their usual greedy business model. If both campaigns were to be that long, I would fully expect them to find a way to charge you double the regular price, with separate releases or something. But now that you mention it, the two campaigns thing is actually a bit reminiscent of the old "Scenario A/Scenario B" thing. That's actually pretty cool. Strangelove
RE5 was longer than it needed to be. The pacing really sucked in that game. When a game is like that I reject the "value=length" notion in gaming. Plus, I dont think its true. Theyre not about to make a 20 hour game....at least not without some severe pacing problems and a lot of recycling. I hope not. Id rather have a shorter game that ends up being a better experience than a forgettable neverending shit.
toxicitizen
I agree with that to an extent. A game can still feel short regardless of how well-paced it is. On the other hand, a normal length game can feel too long if it has horrible pacing. But that also usually means the game has problems other than pacing. I don't really have an opinion on RE5, though. It felt neither too short or too long to me, but this is coming from someone who liked it enough to replay on all difficulties and platinum it. That's not to say it was perfectly paced, though. But personally, I find that as long as a game doesn't stretch past the 12-15 hours mark, then pacing issues are less of a problem for me. Mister Jack
Moving and shooting. Good job, Capcom. It only took you seven years to figure it out. Better late than never, I guess.
SomTervo
Yeah, I think this looks really nice. So I've just heard from word of mouth that Leon and Chris scenarios each will be as long as RE5. Are they doing what I think they are doing back when we had two disks...? Excellent call! I think that would work out really, really well: Leon's segments are being advertised here as more original Survival Horror with T-virus chaps, where Chris is more Resi 5 Action Man scenarios. Two seperate discs would be brillo, with two seperate stories that overlap like Resident Evil 2. Especially since 2+ disc games (on 360 at least) are becoming more and more common these days, as games get more ambitious on this hardware. Although this idea makes it unclear how co-op will work in 6, which I'm assuming will still be there. I imagined Chris and Leon as co-op, and the third guy as a seperate singleplayer campaign? On Kotaku there was an article speculating that the third, bald guy is actually Hunk, the secret character from 2 and 'other guy' on the chopper in 1 (IIRC). In Resi 2, as a secret character, Hunk was invincible. This suggests somehow the guy has an immunity to the T-virus, or viral stuff in general; which would explain the whole 'my blood' obsession thing in the trailer. Overall, I'm pretty excited. Especially about proper zombies on our current simulation capability, and survival horror'ey stuff with the new control scheme. toxicitizen
Sounds like co-op might be a separate mode and support up to 6 players. http://www.gamerzines.com/xbox-360/news/resident-evil-6-6-player-co-op.html I hope this is true. I have zero problem with co-op so long as it's not forced on me. I want my single-player campaign to be single-player, damnit!
SomTervo
Holy shit, imagine that. 6 people trying to survive against waves of zombies or some shit. Incredible.
Mal
Interesting theory (About Hulk) and I hope the co-op thing is true as well. Now, should I wait for the PC version or just go for the PS3? How crap or good are Capcom ports...?
Cyber Rat
RE4 was the most godawful port I have ever had the chance of playing. RE5 was quite decent.
CorgiShinobi
The third duo (mercenary and blonde girl) could consist of four known Resident Evil characters. First off, the Merc. HUNK is the most well-known, and you have to figure he has been around as to warrant a return to the series. However, others are speculating that it is Alex Wesker, the "brother" of Albert Wesker. Not much is known about him since he's only mentioned in Spencer's Memoirs and in relation to Project W. He was, after all, one of the thirteen children to become part of the "superior race" of humans. This is why the character's blood could be so vital, whereas HUNK doesn't have such a condition (unless 6 plans on it). Now the blonde is pretty much half-an-half. The voice definitately sounds like Ashley, and with her father zombified and probably shot dead by Leon, she could theoritically be anywhere else besides dead in the White House. If people's hunches are correct, the debut trailer shows settings from Resident Evil 4. If so, Ashley definitely has experience there that could be benefical to whatever the goal would be. On the other hand, people are (more or less) hoping it's Sherry Birkin. As far as anything G-virus related, nothing of the sort has popped up much in the Resident Evil series. If there is to be G-virus involvement, then why not? Of course, people wanted the blonde in Resident Evil 5 to be Sherry Birkin as well, but we all know it was... ...actually a blonde Jill Valentine all along! Mal
I'll wait and see then. I hope Capcom be nice and do cross platform between PS3 and PC so I can play with my brothers while I play on my PC. It would be amazing but not sure about the chances... As for the blond, I hope its Sherry* as well since she needs to return. I was hoping she was in RE5. *Does anybody know off hand if Sherry is a carrier of the G-virus or was she pretty much disinfected once the embryo was removed?
CorgiShinobi
I can't remember, but HUNK didn't have a falling out with Umbrella yet, did he? If Sherry is somehow still alive and has been kept captive at an old Umbrella facility, HUNK could have taken Sherry with him for whatever reason Resident Evil 6 wishes. At least, that's how I see Sherry coming back. The only problem is that the mercenary in RE6 looks about the same age as the blonde girl. You'd think there'd be, at most, two decades apart from HUNK and Sherry given she was still a kid in RE2 and HUNK was the leader of Alpha Team.
