deanb
So while sorting out my bookmarks I came across an old gem. Basically back in the early days we made a purposefully crappy spin-off of PXOD with the aim of sort of making a "The Onion" of gaming. http://thegoodbadgame.wordpress.com/ Since we were also doing PXOD at the time it never quite took off and only ever had a handful of posts. Since rediscovering it I've spruced it up a bit and wiped the old posts. I feel the new Mac theme is adequately tacky (as well as "lol macs have no games") So is anyone at all interested? It's all a bit of silliness, the more the merrier. As long as you can write and have a minor modicum of gaming knowledge it's all good. Luftwaffles
I'd be interested in this type of thing, and I think I'm an okay writer. One question, though, when you say "The Onion of Gaming" do you mean satirical "Gaming journalism passes vote to be recognized as real journalism" type of stuff or more like stuff from the Onion AV club, which is definitely a little more serious than the regular Onion? Either way, it's a funny idea, and I'm interested either way.
deanb
Satirical/parodying type stuff. Taking the piss out of the games press, PR, marketing, games industry, gamers etc. But if you can manage it on a scale of The Onion where it can fool the casual passerby, all the better. Luftwaffles
First thing that comes to mind is a Videogum type of thing. Either way, I think it's a great idea and I'd be happy to get involved. Now all that needs to happen is for Excel to make this game so it can be reviewed 10s across the board. Edit: Spelling. excel_excel
I'll give it a try if you'll let me! First article from me... "Nintendo jumps the shark inventing downloadable content. Has Miyamoto gone insane?" Or maybe "Nintendo's latest innovation, content you download.....from the internet!? The latest gaming fad is explored within" Or perhaps.... "Why getting rid of friend codes could destroy Nintendo. From a concerned mother." Also Jerry Seinfeld doing articles. "what's the deal with Capcom! I mean are they making games down there?" Edited January 31, 2012 by excel_excel
P4: Gritty Reboot
Not sure what our plan for infrastructure is, but I'd love a thread (maybe private?) where we could brainstorm article headlines/ideas.
Luftwaffles
Doesn't PXoD have some sort of a google docs thing going on? That'd be great for this, perhaps.
Hot Heart
Had a go at something a little sillier with a friend but I got too busy to keep at it, and my friend is even lazier than I am. The last article was not by us but someone from here, someone you may all know... http://thegeekshallinheritthemirth.wordpress.com/ Don't think I could commit to something (my priorities are a bit different at the moment, unfortunately) but I think game previews based on YouTube comments on trailers and such would be a funny thing. Or just stupid statements. For example: 'Sonic Team went the extra mile with the revamped City Escape, spending hundreds of man hours photographing the real San Francisco, and skateboarding suitable routes. This focus on realism really helps ground the blue hedgehog, making his plight far more relatable.'
deanb
PXOD has Google Apps cos it's a bought and hosted domain( so it's "google apps for business"). I'm not sure how simple it is to set up sharing on a personal gmail account, but I can have a shot.
Yantelope V2
From what I understand while reading about "The Onion" it's all about the headline. "Console game just a sloppy port of the PC version" "Ubisoft's new DRM to require urine samples from players" "John Carmack "My games are still good, really.""
