So far we'll get three months of Berserk. With each chapter, the odds for a new hiatus grows. Same goes for the climax of this very important story arc.

Spoiler

There's a lot of setup in the new chapter. Some death flags, some horror flags and just a bunch of speculation. The bit where Farnese and Schierke experienced Casca's emotions is terrible in its implications. I just thought they will just witness it but to, in a way, experience it? Jesus.

I want to nuzzle Tiny Casca for comfort.

Edit:

Oh my god. What if Farnese and Schierke become potatoes in place of Casca!? This is in addition to having Casca not being quite well, whatever that entails.

Tonight is the once in a blue moon catching up with Attack on Titan (eye is fine... for now)... it's still batshit insane but it finally got past A LOT of buildup and splooshed.

I swear it been over a year since I've seen her. God, what a long and contrived way to get back to this but I guess it was needed to know the other side but now...

they fight.

Edit: Just looked, current chapter is 101. This madness begun at 86. 14 months or more (if including any breaks). Who knew the basement was such madness?

Edit edit: Got up to 102. Guys, I think it may finish here otherwise it will be an extremely drawn out mess. Not like it isn't already.

So, it's 5AM and I just finished reading Uzumaki. That sure was an ending. I really enjoyed it but I expected a bit more of a narrative. It picks up in the last volume but the first two kinda feel like a collection of short stories. They all take place in the same town, are told from the POV of the same character and use the spiral as a central theme but most of them could work as standalone shorts like the ones adapted in the anime. Going by what little info there is on his wikipedia page, it seems like Ito's work is mostly just short stories collections. It's kinda weird to think Uzumaki might be his longest story at just 3 volumes long. I'm so used to these never-ending shonens. I kinda hope Gyo is more of a traditional narrative, though. I'm tempted to start it right now but I should probably go to bed before I pass out at my desk.

Oh and yeah, this stuff totally works better in manga form. The lack of sound and motion forces you to really take in his insane art in its full glory. Even in its most ridiculous moments, it never made me laugh like the anime does. Those fucking snails, man...

I should watch the live-action movie soon, if only to see how monumentally they most likely fucked it up.

Has anyone else checked out a manga called Goblin Slayer?  I tried it on a whim and so far I dig it.  It should surprise no one to hear that the story is about an adventurer who genocides goblins along with his party.  What sets this apart from typical fantasy stories is how it tends to deconstruct common RPG tropes.  Goblins are weak creatures individually, but when they come together and form a nest they become highly dangerous and are a constant problem for nearby villagers and townspeople.  Most high-level adventurers refuse to do goblin slaying quests because the pay isn't good enough, and low level adventurers are frequently overconfident about goblin slaying quests, so guilds are forced to reluctantly send several groups of inexperienced adventurers to their deaths (or worse if you're a woman) in order to handle a single nest.  Enter Goblin Slayer, a high level adventurer who is absolutely obsessed with killing goblins using practical, realistic tactics like traps, ambushes, hiding his scent with goblin blood, and wearing full plate armor at all times.  Famous adventurers don't respect him because the only quests he ever does is goblin quests, and yet the people love him because he's the only experienced adventurer who is willing to do anything about this absolutely massive pest control problem.

The manga is pretty graphic.  Goblins are extremely brutal creatures who will tear a man limb from limb or gang rape women without a second thought.  Goblin Slayer himself is even more brutal to them in return, and will even kill their children just to ensure they don't grow up and make new nests.  It's an extremely violent series, but if you've read Berserk then there won't be anything here that you haven't seen before.

I got the first volume of Berserk deluxe edition a while back. Like the Dragonslayer, it's too big to call a book. It's more like a slab of wood. Heavy and dense. It's heavy! With what's out so far, there will be 13-14 of them. Who knows, maybe it'll reach 20 volumes in the end... speaking of which, 358 is out and we're back in Falconia!

Spoiler

Griffith is all but confirmed to share a body with the Moonlight Boy. The Moonlight Boy is going to Elfheim. It'll be interesting to see if next chapter will see us the fallout of Casca's reawakening along with their (Casca and Guts') son/Griffith appearance.

Having Griffith and the Moonlight Boy being the one and the same makes killing Griffith possible (he doesn't seem to be full powered Godhand in his mortal form) but it does mean that for Guts to kill Griffith also mean killing his son. He probably have to get through Casca to do that! It's an extremely fucked situation... unless Casca does the deed.  Which is fucked in itself.

So I recently got the first volume of "erased" by Kei Sanbe. If got this recommended to me from somewhere but I forget where.

Basically it's about a guy who can relive crucial moments in his life where someone is in danger. So far I think it is quite well written and paneled. I won't write home about the art but it works quite well. I'm not sure where the story will take me but I for sure want to keep going. It's tragic, lovely, cute and human. I recommend it so far.

Started reading Cells at Work and Cells at Work: Code Black.

Cells at Work is super fun, I recommend it to everyone, in between all the jokes and the action there's some actual explanations on cells, their names, and what they do, overall it's an awesome package.

Code Black is much MUCH more dark and graphic and brutal and... Well, you get the idea. Essentially, it's what goes on in a body with high stress levels, poor diet, and with lots of alcohol and cigarettes. This also has the same information on cells, their work, what enzymes are used and for what, etc. Still a recommended read, just know what you're getting into, though with people here reading Goblin Slayer and Berserk this may not be that bad. :P

I do prefer the look of the white blood cell in Code Black though. :P

I can't wait for the SARS-COV-2 special. ?

Anyhow, if you never have read the Nausicca manga, I really think it's worth your time. It fleshs out the movie quite a bit (it supercedes it) and it's Hayao Miyazaki in a different format than most are used to (even himself since it shows with the formatting). If possible, get the physical copy. While it does have some typos (I think) for a pricey collection, it's a worthy addition to any collection. Large format (same original print size as the Berserk/Hellsing special editions) in two volumes.

Speaking of Berserk... Those special volumes is like the first time I read Berserk physically. Like wow, they're not blurry mess! Drop dead gorgeous. Still find it funny (wasn't as funny when I first started it since you know, first impressions) how first thing we see is Gut's ass as he fuck and kill the apostle. What an opening sequence. Legend.
