Naruto had its final issue today at Chapter 700.

Man, 15 years it has been around and do I feel old. I remember being a dweeby lil' teen when I got the first Shonen Jump for the United States. Naruto and One Piece, man. Who knows when One Piece will end, and while it definitely still has quality to it, One Piece tends to drag on. Seems like Oda and Kishimoto grew into veterans and if you read the two's latest chapters, they reference the other with Naruto's finale.

There will technically be a short story series in Spring 2015, but I'm not expecting a whole lot. The Great Ninja War (or whatever) felt like a big "And Then" plot that never bothered to calm down. It wasn't like the Freiza Saga in Dragon Ball Z where it more or less felt obvious to the gradual power increase and threat level.

Just, the final chapter of Naruto actually felt good. Yeah, it's sort a fanservice thing, but every popular anything tends to end that way. It wasn't obnoxious and was a bit endearing with the new generation. Oh, and...

NARUTO AND HINATA IS CANON!

"Oh boy!  A new One Punch Man chapter!"

*8 pages long*

It sucks being a fan of non-shonen manga sometimes.  It's been a month since the tournament started and Saitama hasn't even stepped out of his dressing room yet.  I know that drawing manga is hard but if these artists are making a living off of it (and have an entire month between chapters) then they really ought to step it up a bit.  I think the worst example I've seen so far is a chapter of Watamote that was six pages long.

Caught up with Berserk. I'm liking it but the hiatus... if they didn't existed then the Boat Ride is actually kind of short. Miura for sure written himself into a mighty knot, I think. I'm liking the results of what he has written though! So MJ, time for me to join the wonderful ride that is waiting for Berserk! If only Miura could only complete multiple chapters in advance so his breaks isn't as painful. And there is the thing of if Berserk in a good sort of circumstances can come out once a month, we might see at least another 10-15 years of Berserk. Theoretically it could come out twice a month but still, I think there has to be another 100-200 chapters left.

Jesus, that ending was a mess.  I can't totally blame Kubo, though.  At least, I don't think I can.  He was no longer in a position like Oda where he can do whatever he wants and I heard that the editors were really pushing him hard to speed things up and make a bunch of changes to the story he probably wouldn't have otherwise.  Ending it like this, though...I mean Jesus, SO many plot holes.  I followed the series to the end just because I had come so far I felt like I oughta see it through, but there was really no payoff here.  Yhwach was built up as the most ludicrously powerful manga villain ever and then he goes out like a total bitch.  What a disappointment.

I stuck with Naruto to the end because I had spent so much time with it, and in some way I got some enjoyment out of it.

With Bleach, I stuck with it because it was almost always a quick read and, again, spent so much time with the series. For a long time, I suspected things were going to be forgotten and we'd be given plot holes for days. Not to mention Yhwach, much like Aizen, was such a bullcrap OP villain that kept trashing on Ichigo.

"Herp da derp, I broke your sword once more! I have crazy future powers and reject your reality!"

Regarding Berserk and the current events...

I have to disagree with all the expectation that everybody will die around Guts again. At least anytime soon*. Guts and company is currently at the heart of some sort of holy land with who is essentially a high level not-apostle. Most magic we have seen has been from Schierke, a witch-in-training. The other powerful magical objects like the Berserker armor were made by even stronger being/magic users. There is also the thing that Griffith sent an army of strong apostles to kill Flora, Schierke's teacher. So I think if Griffith sends an attack force at Elfhelm, it will get repulsed.

The counter force to the Idea of Evil has always been around. I think it is time it shines.

* Shit will go down at Griffith's city. It'll be a super Eclipse like that that brought down Gaiseric. It'll be really hard to survive such an event. Guts and Casca had Skull Knight.

Oh yeah.

I forget to read it at times since it's monthly. When I heard they actually got to the basement, I read through it.

It confirms a few thoughts the fans have had, but it leaves just as many questions.

Exactly how advanced are the other humans? Are the walls actually an experiment like some say, or perhaps the result of a rebellion that created a splinter group living under a false history. In the translation I read, the last sentence reads something like, "humanity was not annihilated nor destroyed." It's almost the same as "not extinct," but at the same time implies there was never a cataclysmic event that results in all of humanity flocking to giant walls.

I'm inclined to think the latter is true, since they apparently still have things like cameras outside the walls.

And it's out and translated. Who knew you can make me feel uneasy by a simple black circle? Maybe the hiatus is a good thing...

Here's a rough sketch of what to come.

To think scribbles like these becomes the beautiful pages we get. Hell the scribbles leading up to the last page in the current chapter was well played. It's nicely thought out. But yeah...

The girls signed up for a really fucked up mission.

Caught back up with Attack on Titan. It's done. The original intents is done.

Most titans outside the walls are eradicated and they see the ocean. Now to fight some Nazis over the ocean who probably has tanks. And their loyalist titans. It's going to turn into Dino Wars.
