I'm not okay. Having a Berserk chapter drop was one of the things I looked forward to the most. Where the story was heading to was amazing and I swear it was riding towards the final act (after whatever was going to happen). Yes, the hiatuses sucked but I also understand (with age) that Miura needed rest as well. I just never thought he needed them that much.

I'm really not sure how I will settle with the idea of never getting closure on Berserk and, really, losing Miura. He is one of the GOAT. Immeasurable influence.

There is a group of people (his assistants) who could finish it in some form, IF enough material and discussions has been had and IF they and his estate decides to do such a thing. Otherwise no one else can even dream to do such a thing.

I was planning on starting to collect these sick looking deluxe editions in the near future.

But if it's not going to be finished... I don't know if I wanna do this to myself. :(

Do it. They're amazing. They're printed to the same size as they appear in Young Animal but on nice paper. So if you somehow think the scans are good... wait till you feast your eyes on these gems.

I had thought of that but is it common practice to maintain such things when the author is not that old and is in, as far as anyone knows, pretty good health? I doubt Miura thought he was in a position where he'd need such an insurance policy.

Yeah, they look great and I still really want them. It's just that the last time I read a good chunk of Berserk was so long ago (over a decade, probably closer to two) that I've forgotten basically everything about it. Except for the Golden Age because that's all they keep adapting lol.

So given the likelihood that it'll remain unfinished, I'm thinking I may be better off leaving it alone...

I was in the middle of typing something about assistants completing the story for him when Jack's reply popped up. I read on reddit that Miura had started a studio to train assistants to better replicate his style. Do you guys know if there's any truth to that? I'm also wondering if Miura was the kind to have everything planned out with copious notes like Robert Jordan had for Wheel of Time. That seems necessary for anyone to realistically step in to complete the story in any kind of satisfactory manner, I think.

Miura's other manga, Duranki, was basically drawn by his assistants. Good likely hood a fair amount of recent Berserk was them as well though he likely had a go at all the pages.

As for the story, Miura likely has at least an outline somewhere, see the Idea of Evil. Plus all the details he put into his work. He got to have notes.

Honestly though, where the manga is right now is alright... not finished but it's in a good place. If anything ever comes out, I'll be ready. Otherwise I got to wait till I'm on the other side to ask the man. Something to look forward to no matter how it happens...

I'm still heart broken but definitely better than this morning.

Was there any kind of note or indication as to whether it'll be the final chapter altogether?

To be determined as according to Miura's wishes.

If it was a firm no, I think it would have been said already. If it is a yes, it requires lots of preparation and deliberation. There has to be a bunch of key people that have to agree.

Of course, it's a maybe at best and that maybe could be a no. I'll just assume it's the final one.

Edit: Kind of notable that scanlations is slow with this chapter. It is a lot to take in

Damn, thought they would surely know by now. Maybe they won't be continuing and they're just not sure how to break the news?

Personally, to me it depends on how Miura's creative process worked. If he was the kind to have a general idea in his head and mostly just discover the details as he went along then it's probably best if it ends here. But if he was the kind to have a meticulous plan with notebooks full of notes then it would be pretty great if his team were to keep it going. Especially if what I heard is true and that he had been training assistants to better replicate his art style.

So some news. Their side manga, Duranki, has been officially cancelled. Duranki will be published into a volume with unpublished material. Berserk is still a question mark but combining with a previously unpublished interview, there is at least a very rough outline plus an estimate of 60-80% completion so my speculation:

Seems like there's enough notes around for the assistants to work internally to see if they can close out this arc. It's likely to be the most they can do since the next and probable final arc needs Miura's guidance. Then again, maybe Miura had a Christopher Tolkien to the John Tolkien.

It finally got here! I knew it was out of stock when I placed the order but after so long I honestly expected the order to just get cancelled. Also on the right you can see something else I got a few weeks back.

Between these and my Junji Ito, my manga collection is off to a pretty strong start! I think I have to start collecting those fancy Berserk volumes now... ?

Just looked it up on wikipedia. On hiatus since 2015.

Yeah. I think the author has issues framing/putting to paper this later part of Musashi's life and philosophy. FWIW, there is a basic outline in what pose to happen till the end since well, it is based on a historical figure. Then there's the fictional elements... like goddamn it Musash- Takezo, get with Otsu! WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE INVINCIBLE UNDER THE SUN!?

After the announcement that it was getting an anime I started reading the Komi Can't Communicate manga and... BEST MANGA EVER*. :P

It's super cute and wholesome and fluffy and comfy and.... *happy caveman noises* :P It's also super relatable. lol

Seriously considering just buying all current volumes as an early Christmas and/or Birthday present for myself. :P

After a flood of art on my twitter timeline, I decided to check out My Dress-up Darling.

Pretty cute and wholesome, enjoying it quite a bit.

Short summary, super popular, super pretty girl in class turns out to be into anime, manga and VNs and super into cosplay, but can't make clothes at all, meets dude who stays away from everyone due to past trauma but who has an excellent talent and skill at making clothes, wigs, makeup etc due to his family's business (making Hina dolls ), she ends up asking him to make clothes for her cosplay and things snowball from there.

Of note though, this series is super heavy on the fanservice, so YMMV.

Spoiler

Literally, the first cosplay she asks him to make is for a character from an eroge series she likes lol.
