Civilization V

Epic pace is the way to go.

When I first bought it, I would go for super long games. They'd take me an entire week to get through. It was awesome for about a month. But nowadays, I tend to go for shorter ones otherwise I lose interest in the late game and just feel like starting over. Last one I played, I won in a single 6-ish hours sitting.

Yeah, I tend to take an approach like the US at the beginning of WWII:  not much of a standing army, but if I get attacked my entire industrial machine switches to military production.

It works better against computers than humans though.  :(

July 9 in the US, July 12 everywhere else.  Crossing those internet oceans takes a while, presumably because they have to take longer routes to avoid pirates.

*Edit* - Also, apparently that thing about it having XCOM units is official, and not a mod like I assumed.

Yeah, that's pretty awesome. It's very late game, though. Kinda like the giant mech, which I don't think I've ever even made it to. This might be the thing that convinces me to go back to playing epic-length games.

I think I'll try to dig into Gods & Kings a bit more after my finals. I want to get Brave New World at launch but I really need to get more out of G&K to justify buying it day one.

I've made it to the tech level of giant mechs, but I don't think I've ever actually built one because they're not great against cities and by that point in the game if I have a massive army it's because I'm trying to conquer the world.

Oooh, able to trade resources. Many times I've been "damn , I've so much food/production in this city, wish I could send it elsewhere. (I'm sure in older games you could send civilians from one city to another). Mainly like G&K the biggest change is making certain victories more viable. Shame I've yet to have a chance in MP to actually put the G&K stuff to use in a full game, should really make an SP scenario to play through.

Didn't we play with G&K in multiplayer? Mason stomped us and we only got about 75% of the way through, but there was religion stuff involved.

Yeah, I've thought since Civ V came out that there should be some kind of resource sharing between cities connected by a trade route.  It never made sense to me that one city might be starving when it's got a direct road link to another city with +10 food.
