Hot Heart
I think I may have a problem... That aside though, looking to actually buy my own place very soon and stuff like this would be pretty neat to put on the walls. Otherwise it'll be nearly all Beatles stuff. This was also a pretty decent price so I might go looking for other favourite films of mine, or get some old postcard ones I have framed. deanb
Second hand kindle. Works well so far. Figured it'd test the water on the concept a bit and if I like the idea I'll grab a Paperwhite or something and slug this at someone in my house or whatnot. Might even get past the first page of Darrel's book.
Mal
336 pages. Book one of six. The dude written up to the third book on about the Tang dynasty while 4-6 is by other people. These folks seems to write these books with non-specialists in mind, so like me, but should be solid in rigor that a historians can look at it and go "Yeah, that is a good book.". Lets say I am tired of the sensationalist and dumb-down history books you can commonly find. So I go directly to the actual researchers/historians. I hope this guy nails it. I already am studying geologic history so I want to informally study human history. Besides, it is really fun (and sobering) to gather hints of geologic and overall environmental impacts the people in the past has dealt with. madbassman39
I just bought a new laptop, an Asus X550 like the one below. It's not fancy, and a major step down from my old laptop, but its pretty good. I really like the weight of the thing, plus the smaller screen. I've only got 4 gb or ram and an i3 at 1.8ghz vs my old i5 2.53 ghz with 6 gb of ram (my old HP pavilion). I bought it for $350 today, so I figured I was looking for an inexpensive laptop and this seemed to fit the bill. I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of Windows 8 just yet, but hopefully I get used to it and enjoy it.
Mal
Kaijus stand no chance. I'm debating on if I should keep it or gift it to my mom since she loves Hello Kitty. Main thing is that it'll be stored away somewhere while I would display it nice and proud that Hello Kitty will protect me while I'm in Northridge. Kaiju go home! Additionally... I love the series so I got the first four light novels as support for the author. Besides, I could read the translations online.
staySICK
went to a comicon here in Kansas City: Jewel Staite's autograph (that we are mailing to my SIL who is stationed in NY), filled out CAH card signed by Wil Wheaton, baby Deadpool print signed by Skottie Young, She Ra and War Machine Pop! figures, Deadpool belt printed (?) T-Shirt.
deanb
Got £5 off it through a mothers day promo on Amazon. Figured it'll relieve some stress from my PS3 since it covers pretty much everything it does, except for the PS3 games.
TheFlyingGerbil
Are they officially released in the UK yet or is that an import? edit: I see it's out in the UK now,I was sure I read recently it wasn't out for a while here yet. I kind of wish it would plug into a USB port as I don't have a spare HDMI port on my TV Edited March 19, 2014 by TheFlyingGerbil
deanb
Yeah launched today. Seems weirdly hush hush though. Apart from iPlayer updating with Chromecast support and a bunch of leaked PC World inventory screens there wasn't much sign it'd be coming out. I guess maybe low initial stock levels and didn't want to create too much initial hype?
Mal
Ugh... don't lose you way. Preorder for way later this year so I can cancel it if I want.
CorgiShinobi
I got Attack on Titan Volumes 2 - 4. I signed up for Loot Crate when they teased their Titan theme for March, and while the box itself was a bit underwhelming, I got Attack on Titan Vol. 1 with it. Now I'm set on getting all the available volumes as I've only caught a few segments of the manga series and haven't watched the anime in a long time. deanb
It was on offer. Who could resist the power of 45,000 floppy discs in the space of a nail. Hot Heart
Who could resist the power of 45,000 floppy discs in the space of a nail. Well, [Captain America 2 spoilers]... evidently, Hydra aren't too keen on modern memory formats. Or at least, Arnim Zola isn't.
TheMightyEthan
Had been using some speakers that had come with a cheap HTIB, and one of them finally broke (makes popping noises any time something loud and deep, like an explosion, plays) so I decided to replace them with something better. TheMightyEthan
So I got my new speakers installed tonight. They sound way better than the old ones, especially at lower frequencies.
deanb
I should either set up my surround sound or get some speakers for my room. Currently I mostly listen through headphones mostly, but for speakers on PC I use my monitors/TVs, which turn off when the monitor does which can suck. TheMightyEthan
It's a 4-port HDMI switch. I got it for my PS4 and Xbone, because the monitor I have them plugged into only has one digital input, as does my optical-to-headphones adapter, and it's a pain in the ass to switch the cables back and forth between the consoles every time I want to play the other one. The cool thing about this switch is that it strips the audio signal out of the HDMI and outputs it over the optical cable, so I can still use my headphone adapter. TheFlyingGerbil
does it use a power adaptor? I'd love something like that but I couldn't bear another plug behind the TV. There's just so many wires already.
Faiblesse Des Sens
does it use a power adaptor? I'd love something like that but I couldn't bear another plug behind the TV. There's just so many wires already. I have a monoprice one that doesn't require an adapter. The adapter is only necessary if you want to use a remote rather than the button on the device. TheFlyingGerbil
that's cool - I guessed splitting out the audio would need power, and that's what I'd like it for more than the extra inputs.
