Mal
She got the bright idea of spraying water on carpet to keep the dust down. It does but now the dust get caked on inside the tube and everything in addition to any moisture getting to the motor. With the last upright vacuum, I made it a point to clean and take it apart in front of her (funny how things never come back together as they use to...). I don't think she did it again but with how the current Dyson vacuum is handling, I'm not too sure. It might be a battery issue though. We do have a wet/dry shop vacuum but it's far from ideal to dealing with household cleaning.
deanb
Picked up a suitcase since it's a thing that I've increasingly needed over the past year. Was on sale too. Also a headlamp cos fiddling with models is a bit of a pain as my desk since the big light position means my body blocks most light on my desk, and bluetooth adaptor to use with DS4.
Mal
The Last Tour concert in May in SF. Unsure who's opening but hopefully Sabaton will have more than enough time to play most of their classics in addition to The Last Stand songs. I feel that The Last Stand doesn't really stand up to their previous albums. Too samey for an already samey (but awesome!) band. I loved the previous Heroes album though! I would pay good money for a Carolus Rex based tour like how The Blind Guardian did Imaginations from the Other Side tour last year...
Mal
Open boxed 1440p @ 144 Hz with G-Sync. In a few years I'll jump to that 4K monitor that I mentioned in the other thread. That or give VR a whirl sometime next year. I'm undecided if I want to duel monitor it up or give my current monitor to my brother. It would allow me to work outside on his proper desk with my laptop instead in my janky setup by my bed (I'm sitting on it) with my gaming PC. He gets a better monitor and I can get rid of the silly workaround of using a small TV behind his old monitor (only has one port for his computer) which I have to move when I use my TV monitor. It doesn't even produce an image correctly... Weak justifications for this purchase.
TheFlyingGerbil
I wouldn't normally mention a purchase of a perfume for myself, but I have a few questions about them, plus it's called Botanical Cologne of Love which is a pretty awesome name. Anyway, the questions: What do you call them? I'd usually buy an eau de toilette, rather than a cologne (this is unisex though, which I think is unusual for a cologne). I hate saying eau de toilette, but scent or fragrance sound a bit pretentious to me. how many bottles would you typically have on the go at any one time? A daytime/work one and a going out one? more, less? I know some people have dozens but they must lose some of their more volatile notes before you get around to using them. Do you stick to a favourite, or do you like to try different ones?
TheMightyEthan
The closest I've ever gotten to something like that is wearing deodorant.
TheFlyingGerbil
that didn't even occur to me as a question whether you wear them at all.
deanb
I've got a Gucci smelly I wear now and then, usually if I'm trying to impress someone. I assume it's okay (I've fucked up olfactory capabilities which is fun). I wouldn't usually get something like it (same as Ethan I'm usually a deodorant kinda guy) but got it cheap couple years ago at Boots January sale as part of a gift set they were getting rid of for much less than it was standalone. Solid box it came in too, I store trinkets in it.
Saturnine Tenshi
Old Spice all the way. It's only a spray now, though. Can't find the aftershave my grandfather used to have anymore.
Mr. GOH!
I have a bunch of different colognes (and I would call any eau de toilette I use a cologne, even if it were unisex, and I think "perfume" also is a unisex term). I mainly switch between Aramis for business and a Prada evening cologne for social stuff, though I have a few D&G colognes as well. I think I have something like eight bottles of six distinct colognes. I think normal people only need one or two scents at a time; a good number of my colognes were free from my wife's job, since all sorts of personal grooming brands would send her old company men's stuff for free despite the fact it was a magazine for women. Also came here to post the new living room chair I'll be using for gaming once I move next week: It's been at the condo for a few weeks now, and I've already tested it out; super comfy.
TheMightyEthan
I would call any scent designed for women a perfume, any scent designed for men a cologne, and any unisex scent would be called either perfume or cologne based on whether a man or woman was using it. TheFlyingGerbil
What I've not bought is a round chemistry flask. Holy heck are those things dear - I thought they'd be a few quid.
deanb
Precision glassware designed to deal with wide temperature ranges and variety of chemicals? Nah can get them in pound land.
Mr. GOH!
An Erlenmeyer flask? A round-bottom? Florence? Schlenk? what kinda flask you looking for?
TheFlyingGerbil
I wanted to make something a bit like this: It's a fragrance oil burner, I'd try and have some wood to replace some of the metal though Edited February 22, 2017 by TheFlyingGerbil
Strangelove
Has anyone ever considered selling/trading stuff here? I sell stuff on Gaf and it goes pretty smoothly. I trust people here more than there so I think it'd be fine. But maybe it'd be against the rules or something. Just something to think about. deanb
I wouldn't be against it. Just under the caveat of you're all adults and any disputes I would expect to solve amongst yourselves. I have had a video game ring (or whatever you might want to call it, lending games to others to pass on then so on) before now, by Dan iirc. Mal
My computer is has finally entered the Bluetooth Age. To be honest, I'm surprised my mobo or any ones I've seen doesn't seem to have Bluetooth built in. I can understand WiFi not being included but basic enough to be sub $10 and fit on a small nub of a dongle. Anyhow... My brothers have a PS4 so the adapter allows me to give a DS4 a shot with it's full functionality. The touch pad is apparently pretty nice to have. I'm still debating about a Steam controller though. The regular Bluetooth dongle is speakers and such. Foobar didn't like it for ten minutes until Spotify had an audio connection to my speakers. deanb
It is a bit weird given its pretty standard on laptops. I guess it's $10 saved? Actually was about to complain about lack of built in wifi too then I had a thought: most of us put our motherboards in a large metal box. Not the best thing for wireless communications... Though could still have the chip built in and an antenna port to run external as wifi is now. It seems pretty basic to include.
deanb
I need to learn not to visit people and buy things cos then I'm having to figure how to rejig suitcase for the return home. From charity shops I got: - hardback War of the Worlds. A nice cover, sort of the old fashioned leatherbound style (though with the Jeff Waynes cover) - Hardback "Thief of Time", one of my fave Discworld books. - Batman Begins and Dark Knight Blu-Ray/DVD/Ultra-Violet New - 5-port USB charger with a QC3.0 charger for £7 from Aldi. Been wanting a spare QC charger and this was significantly cheaper than I'd seen on Amazon (though isn't a "known brand")
Mister Jack
Breath of the Wild was pretty good, but at the end of the day Majora's Mask is still my favorite Zelda. I had been wanting that limited edition Skull Kid figure really bad when that 3DS version came out, but we all know how Nintendo is with limited edition items so I never got one. I saw this on sale and I couldn't resist. It was less than ten dollars and yes, the mask comes off to show the Skull Kid's face.
Mister Jack
Today's my birthday but I'm not really celebrating or anything. I still felt like I ought to at least buy something fun, though, and I've been kind of curious about drones for a while so I got myself a cheap one. I know that this is not a "real" drone and that enthusiasts would scoff at me for buying this one, but I'm just looking to dip my toes into the hobby and see how much I like it before I go dropping hundreds of dollars on anything serious. deanb
A sensible decision. My bro got one, then passed it on to me and it's kinda funny but super fiddly. Some of the stuff you can do with a DJI drone is pretty sweet though.
Saturnine Tenshi
Nice! There's a drone store nearby. Really would like to try one.
MetalCaveman
I've been saving for a new phone for a while and though I was originally planning to get a G5 Plus, I managed to sell my car and after allocating the necessary funds for the other stuff I want, there was enough left to go from that to an S8.
