Mister Jack
Okay, this is my last splurge for a while. I'm gonna save the rest of my refund. This is the Galaxy Tab S2, which isn't the newest model but because of that I was able to get this and a smart case for it in a bundle on ebay for a little over 200 bucks. It's usually around 300 just for the tablet but this was labeled as "New - Open Box." Honestly, if they didn't say it was open box I never would have noticed because when I got it in the mail earlier it looked like it had come fresh from the factory. Still had all the protective plastic on it and everything. My old Google Nexus 7 still works pretty well, but it's from 2013 and I wanted something newer and faster so I just plan to sell the Nexus 7 on eBay to eat some of the cost.

Mal
Kindle version since I don't have to wait for shipping. It releases the day before I fly home from a short vacation. Also the author is the Earthquake Lady if you somehow recall her from the 90's.
Mal
I finally have a casual shoe again. Very snug and comfy so far.
Hot Heart
Been really enjoying the Hap & Leonard TV series so figured I should give the books a go. They're all pretty cheap on Kindle. Just gotta figure if I want to get ahead of the show or not, given that it's one a year and they're only just doing the third.
TheFlyingGerbil
I'd never heard of Hap & Leonard so went to have a look. Turned out I got the book for free so that's nice.
TheFlyingGerbil
For my birthday yesterday I got the clear vinyl limited edition LP, which looks really good, but I doubt it will photograph well so I'll just post the lead single. Kylie's been to Nashville for this new album, which many artists do when they want to make a change and reaching 50 I think she wanted to move away from her previous image. She's had more blatant home-of-country-music results than most people that make the pilgrimage but that's not to say I don't like it. Popular Post toxicitizen
Made a few QoL improvement purchases. Holy crap, how did I ever live without an SSD?! My PC used to take a solid minute to get to the Windows login, then another extra 2-3mins just to launch everything and be ready for use. Now it's down to like 20secs and rebooting takes about as long instead of the 5mins it used to. It's not exactly instantaneous but it sure as hell feels like it compared to before. That alone makes it worth every single penny. Right now I've only got Warframe installed to it but I can't wait to try something more demanding in terms of loading, like an open-world game. The little bit of extra space is nice, too. My OS used to be on a 150GB partition and it was getting a little cramped. That partition has now been reclaimed by the storage drive it rightfully belongs to. As for the chair, my old one broke a couple months back and I've been sitting on a shitty wooden chair ever since. My ass has been hating me the entire time. It cannot get here soon enough. I'm honestly more excited about it than the SSD. 4

toxicitizen
I've finally decided to stop being a caveman. The decision may or may not have been slightly influenced by me playing Jackbox for the first time while drinking with friends last week. I ordered both that phone and case along with these because my current ones have had sound coming only from one ear for long enough that I can no longer remember exactly when they broke. I just kinda stopped using my mp3 player because of it but if I'm getting a new device I figured they needed to be replaced.
TheMightyEthan
What phone is that? Also, welcome to the 21st century!
toxicitizen
Samsung Galaxy A8. I kinda wanted a Google Pixel but I could get this one without having to pay anything for it up front and still have a decent monthly rate. The expandable memory is also a nice bonus. Especially after being constrained to an 8GB mp3 player for like a decade... The phone itself should get here this afternoon. Kinda looking forward to it.
Mal
Going to clone my current SSD to make a new boot drive. Someday down the line I'll get a multi-TB HDD (or two, RAID is possible) to move stuff into for storage and as a data security measure. THEN I will look into a cheaper 1-2TB SSD for games.
TheMightyEthan
TCL 49S405, a cheap 49-inch 4k HDR TV to replace my current 47-inch 1080p TV I use for gaming. It's not the fanciest TV by a long shot, but it's very highly rated for gaming, with extremely low input-latency, and at $300 the price is unbeatable. deanb
Got me some of these on order: Got back from night out to find my current headset no longer works. Anker have been good to me in the past, and I'm fairly happy with this kind of bluetooth headset form factor at this point. Also got Baby Driver on blu-ray...which my mum currently has. TheFlyingGerbil
Was the broken headset a casualty of the night out?
deanb
Probably. One of the ear buds had been the fritz anyway, but given I rarely have both in cos I like to not get ran over hadn't bothered me. So might just have been a coincidence. Mal
*Images not to scale I technically could pay for it all right now but hey, Amazon still have some uses like 12 month financing for 0%. But yeah, I kind of decided against joining a gym. Rather do bodyweight workouts along with some weights. I'm not looking to get swole but I do need a set of weights for upper body and even squats. I may or may not return the stand but it being foldable is a plus. Main consideration for this set is space or else I would have gotten a different bench. Now to save up for a coffee roaster by Black Friday... Edited September 2, 2018 by Mal
TheFlyingGerbil
that's some futuristic looking weights - took me a moment to work out what they were. Edited September 2, 2018 by TheFlyingGerbil
TheMightyEthan
I thought they were 3D printers or something, so... I'm also confused what a drafting table has to do with working out.
MetalCaveman
I've seen them a bunch of times, even thought about buying them, but they are a bit expensive and I've never seen a good offer so I stick with the traditional dumbbell. Mal
Truth be told, I'm actually not 100% sure how they work. All I know they are considered #1 or #2 with regards to adjustable weights. They are also expandable to 70lbs then 90lbs. Or more? I've heard of 125lbs but fuck that. The only thing that they can't really do due to their shape is wrist curls. 4 hours ago, TheMightyEthan said: I'm also confused what a drafting table has to do with working out. That's not a drafting table but it would be amazing if it can double as one. 2 hours ago, MetalCaveman said: they are a bit expensive Indeed but with the full cost spread out to 12 months, I think I can handle it. Mal
Two graphic novels that's quite a bit different from what I usually get. The Best We Could Do is about one family's time getting out of Vietnam after the Vietnam War and then settling elsewhere (probably in the United States). I think it might be an excellent offshoot from watching Ken Burn's The Vietnam War. The aftermath was covered rather quickly in The Vietnam War, especially for those trying to leave Vietnam in the years following the fall of Saigon. Our Story is as self described. In this case this was made by a widower and spans from before the author meeting his future wife to around the time of her passing. 1922-2008. This is his way of remembering her. I also got the following: Soil health is near and dear to my heart. A lot of work in my garden is actually soil improvement since the soil can be in really rough shape. If you all ever remember anything about soil, please remember that what goes down in the soil is half or more of what goes on with a plant. Another draw for this book is the author whom I've been following for years. An excellent geomorphologist, geologist and science writer. Been meaning to pick this up for a long time but I finally found it on the sale cart. The main draw for this cookbook is to have a firmer grasp of combining flavors to get what works. I know a lot of things from trial and error but it is nice to have this for inspiration. There's also a vegetarian version but one thing at a time... today was a pricey book shopping day.
