I'm a really big fan of the classic Looney Tunes shorts and one of my nerdy pursuits is to eventually own every short on physical media, at least the ones that aren't lost to time. I already have the Golden Collection, which is the most robust, but that on its own only has about 60% or so of all the available shorts. This DVD right here is the only way to have all of the Pepe shorts on physical media and unfortunately after he was pulled from the Space Jam sequel and WB announced they have no plans to use him the price of this DVD shot up to absolutely ridiculous prices. Up to $400 on eBay from asshole sellers. Thankfully, I got extremely lucky and only had to pay $13 for this thanks to a recent restock.

I really wasn't planning to buy these anytime soon but in a crazy coincidence right after I bought the Pepe DVD a reliable insider leaked info that Warner Bros plans to stop all DVD production for these shorts in 2022 and transition to streaming only. I figured I'd better get them now before they shoot up to ridiculous prices. This brings me up to owning roughly 85% of all available shorts. There's another Sylvester DVD in this collection but it's going for $400 so I might just have to let that one go.

The TV in our main room bit the dust, so we needed a replacement. I did my research and this TV looks like it's in the sweet spot where you get the best bang for your buck. There are better TVs out there, but they're close to twice as expensive, if not more, and they aren't that much better. As a bonus (because I wasn't looking for gaming performance since I don't play much on that TV), its game mode is really fast, like less than 15ms of input latency, which is getting into gaming monitor territory. The only thing it doesn't do is 120Hz (it has a 120Hz refresh rate for response time, but won't actually take 120Hz signals), but since I wasn't looking for gaming I figured that was okay.

Ha! Got you, you bastard! This is the DVD that was part of the collection I've been acquiring recently that was going for 400+ dollars on eBay, the one I told myself I would probably have to accept that I would never get. However, I was able to place an order from this directly from the Turner Network, which is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. It will be a while before they can actually ship it, but it's still mine now. To make matters even better I did some looking into the shorts I currently own and it turns out that some of the special features on the collection I recently got include shorts that are on some of the other DVDs I was originally planning to get for completion's sake so now I don't have to get those. This brings me up to owning roughly 93% of all the shorts that have been transferred to physical media.

My current laptop technically still works, but only technically. The keyboard is fucked and I've been using a bluetooth keyboard for ages, the battery doesn't charge up unless it's turned off, but the thing that finally pushed me to replace it is that the charger will now randomly cut out sometimes and I have to jiggle the cord to make it start charging again, and even then sometimes the charging pin will get much hotter than what I think is normal. Now it's possible that the charger or the port is faulty, but replacing that costs 120 dollars and I've replaced it twice already so fuck it. Just FUCK IT. It was time to move on. I've sunk enough money into a six year old machine.

You can't see it in the photo here but this is an HP Envy x360, which can convert into a tablet mode by pushing the screen all the way back. I got it with the following specs:

15.6" touch screen

16 GB RAM

1 TB NVMe SSD

Integrated Radeon GPU

AMD Ryzen 5

Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5

It cost me a little over $900 before tax, which seems fair. In terms of gaming performance this is technically a step down from my current laptop (which now gets too hot for intense gaming), but I've made the decision that any future PC gaming I do, at least for current gen titles, is going to be done on a desktop whenever the GPU prices calm down a little. Nvidia is already taking steps to discourage crypto miners so maybe that will be sooner rather than later. While this machine can allegedly run last gen games at medium settings just fine, for the most part I've decided that laptops should be primarily for web browsing, media, or productivity and maybe some light gaming with less demanding titles. Few things are more irritating during a gaming session than a laptop fan that sounds like the engine of a Boeing 747. Plus, gaming laptops are heavy and the battery life on them is crap. If you have no other options they'll do in a pinch, but I think I'd rather save for a new desktop in the future and do my heavy gaming on that and use this nice, sleek, portable device for everything else.

Been reading some Junji Ito this week and it kinda made me go "Oh, right. Manga's pretty good!" and I just happen to have some extra spending money right now. So instead of buying a bunch of Steam games I'm not going to touch anytime soon, I saw that this was coincidentally back in stock and I just had to treat myself

I also got a Dune boxed set despite me already owning them because I'm an idiot. In my defense, the ones I have are these really cheap book club editions that I kinda don't like whereas the boxed set comes with these new minimalist covers that I really love. Also it was on sale and I had some store credit. ?

Really looking forward to rereading the first one ahead of the new movie!

Seriously though, that's awesome.

lol! It hasn't demanded a sacrifice of liquified dinosaur so I think I am good. It's taking some getting used to driving it. It's a quantum leap in technology for me (especially since I have always "driven stick": keyless entry/start; no gears; regenerative braking; completely different torque profile. The other day was in a car park and literally had to think through the steps to actually drive the car.

Been recording from my amp, both via its own USB connection and using a USB microphone, it's worked well so far, but I also wanted something I could use to record directly.

I bought a desktop.

I wasn't really planning on it but this was such a good deal I had to jump on it. A 3060 these days on its own will cost you around 1000 dollars, let alone a whole system. Part of the discount comes from the fact I have to take the system as is and can't customize it at all, but it honestly has almost everything I would want already. Liquid cooling is new for me and I would get 2 TB of storage if I could, but I can always add an SSD later on. I told myself for a long time I would build my next pc myself, but that was before covid came along and made that impractical.

After taxes and discounts it came to 1747, but it also includes a keyboard and mouse

At this point I have enough novels to read to last me well into next year and I finally managed to convince myself I don't need any more (for now) but my idiot brain just keeps finding loopholes. So, in part due to my recent time with FFXIV and how much I'm enjoying the FF Pixel Remasters, I got these...

I may have also bought some FFXIV art books last month...

My new desktop has pretty good wifi, but the fact it's enclosed inside the desk weakens the signal considerably, even compared to my last desktop which is over a decade old. I suspect this has something to do with the physical location of the motherboard. A direct connection to the modem just isn't an option for me. That room is too full of stuff already and I don't want to move the entire desk anyway so I got these powerline adapters instead. After plugging them in my speed jumped from around 7 MB/s to 25 MB/s. I know that doesn't sound like much but I'm stuck with Comcast so that's pretty good for my situation. More than enough for my needs, at least.
