Just a word of warning about powerline adaptors: we have a separate ring for upstairs and downstairs so they could not be used to improve reception upstairs for us, so just make sure the sockets you plan to use are actually connected.

If you have the budget, I can recommend google's Nest WiFi (or whatever they are calling it this week) for a whole-home wireless solution.

I had to swap my Vodafone hub for a standalone Modem to resolve some DHCP conflicts, but since then it has been absolutely bomb-proof.

I actually realized after posting that that I hadn't tested it since I got my new router, and I actually do get a pretty strong signal in the bedroom now. Good enough to remote-play from the Playstation at least, which really what more do you need? The only place it's an issue now is in the master bathroom, but I think I'll survive somehow.

Speaking of mesh Wifi...

71krwLVVWgL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

ASUS ZenWiFi AX6600 Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System (XT8)

I think I bitched about my internet enough on the Discord to the point I think I narrowed down my issues (router crashing) with my routers (I had two similar models, one my own and a second hand from my aunt who moved). So new router and why not go mesh since I'm not happy with the wifi connection in my room/front of the house.

I hear good things and I am trying my hardest to avoid Google or Amazon (eero). Far as I can tell, they're pretty rock solid. I only had some issues on the first day but after, they went away? Anyhow, I use them via Ethernet backhaul (connected with wires) since I can but I heard their Wifi connection works quite well too (there's a mode where it alternates depending on speed).

Depending on how these die, I may or may not just go insane and get enterprise networking equipment. Seems like consumer grade stuff just dies like how my old routers did. Remains to be seen if these are any different...

Anyhow, recharging to go gig speed internet but I'll need a new modem. Funny enough, my speed got upgraded (to the tier just before gig speed) after I got these and my modem is my bottleneck now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: lmao, of course it dropped my internet (or something did) after I make this post.

Amazon.com: SteelSeries Rival 3 Wireless Gaming Mouse - 400+ Hour Battery Life - Dual Wireless 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth 5.0-60 Million Clicks - 18,000 CPI TrueMove Air Optical Sensor (62521) : Everything Else

My desktop came with a wired mouse and I did try using it for a bit, but at the end of the day I just prefer wireless. The wire on the mouse wasn't really long enough for my large desk and while I could still use the wired mouse, I still had to tug it back into place more than I like. This was a relatively cheap mouse ($40) that is supposed to last for 400 hours on two AAA batteries. I really don't ask anything more from a mouse other than it for it to feel comfortable and have two side buttons so I didn't need anything fancy to drive up the price. This will suit me just fine.

I don't really need a 4k monitor because I only have space for a 25" display on my desk at most but I did want a monitor with a higher refresh rate so I could finally experience 120 FPS gaming. The monitor I've been using worked fine but it was super super old and only 60hz. I got this one for around 220 and I used Amazon points I've been accumulating from all the expensive medical equipment I was buying so I only paid about 150 out of pocket.

I can't stop buying Final Fantasy art books!

ezmTTgI.png

This one is all about Amano's art and it's freaking gorgeous. Even the box is insanely pretty, with a layer of cloth covering the outside. Which makes it especially sucky that one of the corners got a little smushed during shipping... The books inside are fine, though, so I'd feel like a dick returning it over that lol.

That being said, would it kill these idiots to package these things properly? Is it a nice, fancy, expensive box set? Then maybe put some padding all around it instead of just sticking it right in the corner of the box! That way the content is protected when the box inevitably gets fucked up during shipping. I pretty much stopped ordering books from Amazon for a similar reason. They just shove them in these super thin bubble mailer and half the time the books are completely fucked up by the time they reach me and I end up returning them.

Oh yeah, I had something similar happen to a $300 Studio Ghibli books package lol

Limited stock from Japan. I just cut my losses and accepted the dented corner. Japanese packaging is very good but this time someone smash the box just enough. Mind this set is MASSIVE so yeah, lol

But yeah, I've been wanting that art book. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I, too, have ascended!

32in, 1440p, 240hz, g-sync and curved. Even with 150$ off it was still expensive as fuck but idgaf. I felt like spoiling myself. Also feels good to finally have a dual monitor setup. It's definitely going to double my productivity and not just, like, have discord or youtube open on the second monitor.

Also, I want to thank @Mister Jack for ensuring that I paid extra attention to whether or not the high refresh rate was actually enabled. It didn't seem any different at first so I poked around and realized that, even though it was set to 240hz in the settings, G-Sync was locking the refresh rate to match the second monitor's 60hz. Had to tweak some things in Nvidia Control Panel to get it right. It's buttery smooth now. ?

This just got here!

jQtx7Wa.png

I'm pretty happy to have it because I completely forgot to pre-order it until the last minute and then my bookstore didn't ship it on release day (and removed my shipping estimate). And it was out of stock both there and on Amazon so it really looked like I had missed out on the initial launch stock and would have to wait weeks to get a copy.

edit: I guess I should've held off on posting yesterday cause I had other stuff coming in. Lately I've had more disposable income than I've had in a while so it's leading to some slightly... frivolous purchases. 😅

Also got this along with it.

Black Friday deal. 1 TB for 200. Still kind of steep, but I don't see myself ever keeping more than 2 TB of games on my PS5 at one time, even with the increased size of games in the current gen. Kudos to the Sony engineers because this was super easy to install and set up. Took maybe 5 minutes.

Microwave gave out, and we needed a replacement before we could eat dinner, so one trip to Walmart later and we have this.

I'm actually happy, cause I've been wanting a toaster oven but we don't have enough room on our counter for another device, but this one fills both rolls.

I'll be building a new PC next year and I've decided to slowly start buying my pieces one at a time so I don't overload my credit card. Plus, this way once I'll be ready to get the CPU and motherboard I should have everything else so I'll be able to splurge a little. Anyway,  there were some black friday deals I couldn't pass up.

The SSD's going in my computer immediately. The case was 60$ off, which I figured was significant enough of a discount to justify getting it a few months earlier than planned.

I took the case out of the box to make sure everything was good and holy shit. I thought I was going for a smaller form factor (I was initially going to get the micro-ATX version of that model but got worried about a bigger GPU fitting in it) but it's almost as tall as my current one and way wider. 😅

All hail our robot overlords. Anyhow, I feel that robot vacuums are far along enough to get one. Main thing for me is object avoidance aka don't run over poop.

This is kind of there for my mom to keep the floor cleaned since we're all busy for weeks at a time. With two dogs, this might just knock out one more chore to do. Mind, you could get a far cheaper one if you say have no dogs (no poop avoidance needed).
