deanb
No longer tied to the tyranny of my sister in order to have PC usage at home. It's pretty nice, one of the longer battery lives on netbooks (10hrs). It's not made to run games, but won't say I'm gonna test it's limits. Hopefully be able to use it for some PXOD field work at EG too. It runs Windows Starter, which most annoyingly won't let you access the "personalize" part :/ Gonna see about sticking ChromeOS on it, both for hopefully stretching the battery and cos it'll be all I need most of the time. Other than that it's pretty sweet. It looks pretty sweet compared to others and I got staff discount on it through Toms GF. Gonna have to spend tonight just stripping out the shit like Norton. P4: Gritty Reboot
Awesome, Dean. My Toshiba NB205 runs older or indie PC games quite well, which makes it pretty awesome for on-the-go gaming. Also, there are a few third party programs out there that will change your desktop image even though W7 Starter doesn't do it out of the box. CorgiShinobi
And what's wrong with Norton? I mean, yeah the out-of-box Norton is too basic, but 360 has saved my ass about three times.
deanb
"too basic" tbh with the way norton acts I wouldn't want it getting anymore complex. It may have improved over the years but past experiences put me far away. Also most of the decent stuff is free.

Are they making Chrome available for download like that? I tried Ubuntu on my netbook (MSI Wind U100) via thumbstick yesterday; couldn't get wifi to work; got frustrated and gave up. It still has the RC of Win7 on it currently, and I don't really care to go back to XP Home.
deanb
Noting official at the moment. Mainly a case of hunting down builds people have made and if your laptop is compatible. Mine isn't on the list but it's older sibling is. I'm not gonna bother till it's as easy peasy as Ubuntu, which I hear they scrapped Netbook Remix, so none of that either. staySICK
from what I've read, NBR has been integrated into 11.04.
Battra92
Okay I did well at work this week so I decided to treat myself to a few British DVDs I've had my eye on for a while. and ... I almost bought the Blu-Ray set but it was 5 times more expensive (25GBP vs 5GBP for the DVD) and the Blu-Ray is region locked and I don't have a region free Blu-Ray player ... yet. ;-) Edited May 31, 2011 by Battra92
TheFlyingGerbil
looks like I got a bit of a bargain when I nabbed the eternal diva blu ray for £6!
Yantelope
I hope it's good. Also I realized the other day I didn't have a copy of Hot Shots! I was ashamed of myself. @Dean, I got my wife a netbook too. I am sad you can't play games across remote desktop onlive style on it. Battra92
looks like I got a bit of a bargain when I nabbed the eternal diva blu ray for £6! Oh, I'm talking the collector's edition with all the bells and whistles and the three discs and the book.
TheFlyingGerbil
Ah, I see. I don't know about importing into to US but to get stuff here that price difference means you'd also have to pay all the taxes and import duties and such for the blu ray, but you wouldn't for the DVD, so that would definitely have made my decision. Battra92
One thing I like about ordering from the UK is that the VAT is essentially the shipping charge since they take that shit off when exporting.
TheFlyingGerbil
I think I am going to have a stroke. I hate making big purchase decisions. If you know about a laptop that is twice as good for half the price I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW.
Saturnine Tenshi
So I can once again blast my kpop in the car. Also picked up an Asuka deck case.
Hocking
I think I am going to have a stroke. I hate making big purchase decisions. If you know about a laptop that is twice as good for half the price I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW. I bought one of these in November last year for Uni, love it to bits. Only thing I dislike is having to have it plugged in almost constantly.
TheFlyingGerbil
cool. I always leave my laptop plugged in anyway (even though I know it is bad for it) so that won't be a problem.
CorgiShinobi
There's that special offer for students where, on Dell.com, if you buy from a select range of Dell PCs you'll receive an Xbox 360 (4GB). I imagine it might not be completely worth it even if you don't have an Xbox 360. That 4GB is not gamer friendly and upgrading to a 120GB Xbox 360 brand harddrive is expensive. Seriously, $119.99 for 120GB? My PS3's 250GB HDD was a little under $55! EDIT: $20 for a movie I did thoroughly in theaters, but have been hesitant to purchase. staySICK
Yea, I'm thinking if I can get my shit together and enroll in time, I might take advantage of that offer, if not for a secondary 360 (I can easily swap the hdd between the two) or just flipping it to recoup some of the laptop expenses. Cyber Rat
Finally bought a new Power Supply Unit. Works like a charm and as quiet as it gets. I also installed Kovach's old graphics card and now I can play games in much higher detail than before. I am happy.
deanb
cool. I always leave my laptop plugged in anyway (even though I know it is bad for it) so that won't be a problem. That's only on old ones. These days they're pretty intelligent and divert mains power right to the laptop once the battery is charged. Older models would just pump it into the battery then from the battery to the laptop, fucking the battery in the process.
Johnny
This is the Grado iGrado (bonus points for retarded naming) Picked up for 50 euros yesterday. Really enjoying them so far. Really, if you're one of us few crazy people who like neckband headphones (I do) then this is the only somewhat-quality option.
deanb
50p from a carboot. Was thinking I might come away with nothing. Shame it's £5 to buy the first 3 chapters from the publishers site. Damn you Prologue Pass. Oh wait no.. the book industry isn't that fucked up. Oh there was also a copy of Syndicate for I think Megadrive(was stacked in the same pile as) Was debating getting it since it's supposedly good, but I can't play it so I passed. Same guy had 5 copies of Abes Oddysse. It's a good game but not that good
Mal
Posting from phone, so... yeah. Also, I saw that and had to get it. Useless? Maybe... but I like it!
Battra92
Since Borders is going under, I went down and picked up a couple of my favorite Moleskine alternatives. They are just as good and cost 2/5th the price!
