Ive always assumed hdmi cables were like innernet caps. Its doesnt really matter, companies just try to charge more because they can.

Stupid ATT cap. Grrr...

TL;DR: With digital it either works or it doesn't. Signal loss isn't the same as with analog. It's either +5 or +12 volts traveling across the cable. Now these cables are always short (HDMI has a length limit of something like 15 meters with the highest standard IIRC) Since 99% of the population uses 6' or shorter cables, signal attenuation really isn't an issue.

Here is the thing: I'm sick of plugging 14 damn inputs into the TV from the PS3. The XBox, the 360, and the cable box create too many wires in the back. I can't even tell which cord is which. So, I'm reducing my cables and then bundling them together. It's annoying. Annoying to the point where I might buy a receiver, but that would be more wires.

One of my favorite things about my new TV was the fact that it had multiple HDMI inputs, so it significantly reduced the number of wires I had running around behind the TV. Now everything plugs into the TV with HDMI (except the Wii), and I have 1 optical audio cable running from the TV to the sound system.

I had a nightmare with this when I bought my surround sound headset as my TV would only pass out a stereo signal from the optical output. I found that to be the case with most TVs when I looked in to it so I have to swap the optical cable around to whichever device I'm using at the time. It means I don't use it as often as I would like as I can't be bothered swapping the cable around all the time.

My TV will pass surround sound just fine, the problem I have is that the devices recognize that they're connected to a TV that only has stereo speakers so they only send stereo sound out. The only device that does it properly is my PS3 because I can manually force it to surround sound, and then it works fine.

I don't worry too much about it though, I just let the Dolby Pro Logic do its thing. It's good enough for me most of the time.

Needed something to get free shipping on Amazon, and this had been sitting on my wishlist for a while.

Wait you still need to hit a floor value for free shipping on Amazon? Hmm out here they got rid of that. It's free shipping on all orders for supersaver went down from £25 to £5 to everything now. It also takes about 2 days to get to you from the point of dispatch(unless it's a big item in which case it's 2). Paid takes 1. The difference I noticed between paid and unpaid shipping for Amazon uk is that they head to dispatching soon asap for any paid shipping and it takes about a day otherwise.

Have to hit $25 here still, unless you're on Amazon Prime then you can get free 2-day shipping on everything.

One possible reason might be that the UK is so much smaller than the US that it probably doesn't cost as much to ship things across the country. That's just me speculating though.

It's probably cause of online retail competition. Most people buy from online retailers a lot more than from stores. I mean we've got amazon, play, the hut group's zavvi, sendit, thehut etc, gameseek, choicesuk, shopto and a lot more. There's far too many retailers in the online space that compete in the entertainment area. Many offer free delivery. Amazon was forced to hit zero. Many are now reintroducing paid options but it's really going to be hard to switch there. Amazon prime here is next day and they also have Amazon evening delivery if you choose to pay a premium and order before 1pm (the latter is definitely because the UK is smaller) but there's a lot of warehouses as well.

Recently they've introduced the Amazon locker where if you're busy and can't be at home it'll be delivered to a locker where you show id and collect the item usually in 2 days. I think when you get more online retailers being highly competitive they'll be forced to do this. The online market is much more competitive here from the looks of it.

Started some Christmas shopping. Having three sisters to buy for is tough, but they know that I can pick out some good films, TV shows, books and CDs, so get clothes and such from people who know better. :P

- 30 Rock: Season Three (she might not be aware that I'd seen her mention she only just bought S2)

- The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde (I know T-Next loves these and considering one sister is an English Lit graduate, she should hopefully enjoy it)

- The Peter Serafinowicz Show (I know she'd love this because he is great)

Hmmm, eBay has done it again. I wanted to try Windows Phone 7 so was going to get a first gen one for £150-£180, then the radar started making eyes at me but I couldn't win one under £200, so I've just gone completely insane and bought a Nokia Lumia 800 for £285! Now I have the dread until it actually turns up and is at least vaguely as described.
