Nowhere I've ever lived except the dorms has had ethernet hookups. Is that a standard thing?

This place has internet included in the rent + cable in the room that I can pay for if I want, but I figured I'd try the free wifi and see if it's decent. I can always pay for a cable hookup if I decide I need it, I guess.

As far as ethernet hookups, I think it's becoming more common. 2 of the 4 places I looked at last weekend had them, but that was in a city.

Pre-ordered. I'm completely unsure about this one since its with the new singer and I haven't heard of any clear recordings of him singing any of Kamelot songs. I've only heard crappy concert recordings. From what I gathered, he does sound quite a lot like Khan, just different... I'll see.

On the ethernet subject, the last two complexes I've lived at had outlets. My current residence offers wireless, but you have to go through a "registration" for your devices to be tied to your account. The free wireless only allows three devices, but you can pay $10 a month for a faster speed and an extra device.

I have my own wireless router so I don't have to go through this all. Might not allow me the fastest speeds, but I can connect to my router far more easily than going through registration.

EDIT: So I would say it's becoming a trend in new apartments. I still have a modem around just in case I have to go out and get my own service like I did when I moved out. Lived at a decent place, but you had to get a lot of your own utilities.

Selling my Nook Tablet. If I'd known this was coming back when I bought the Nook Tablet I probably would have held out for it. Basically my only real issue with the Nook is that the fact that I have to have it jailbroken to do a lot of the stuff I want (like install Play Store apps) makes it a little wonky to deal with sometimes, and this can do everything I want out of the box.

I saw the picture

Didn't particularly want to buy this, but the apartment I'm moving into doesn't have any ethernet hookups. Fingers crossed that it's a good card.

I haven't seen a card like this before! It looks weird! So the antennas stick out of the pack of your PC? won't that get in the way?

It looks weird!

Pretty much. You can fold them up, but they haven't stuck out any further than say a DVI connector.

As far as how the card performs... I really do prefer ethernet...

You and me both, Spork. I still have to get a cable long enough to wire up my router. I at least have it in the same room as my PC now.

  • 2 weeks later...

A little while back I posted that I picked up a PCI wireless card, and since then I've had a bit of fun discovering the horrors of wifi first hand. First off, that PCI card doesn't play nice with Sandy Bridge audio for some reason and would randomly distort and warp audio at relatively random times, with increasing frequency, until it started doing it all the time.

So I went to Best Buy and bought a little USB card instead.

It worked well for about 20 minutes, then it started overheating and dropping its connection, which is really no good for even light web browsing, much less gaming. So I returned that one, and bought a Netgear one instead.

Luckily it still works, doesn't drop connection, and I still get okay ping, but goddamn, I really really hate wifi.

This. But not quite.

My dad n step-mum were broken into a year or two back. As part of insurance payout they got a jewellery card of sorts with £4000 on it. They've kinda struggled to spend it all and it runs out in November. So yeah I got to pick a watch for myself (and they said it could be a late b'day present). Thing is later gong through the receipts of the day, the shop assistant had only rung through the earrings that got picked up alongside my watch (parents also had a voucher so had made up the difference). So a tripley free watch for me. (Turns out my step-mum had a similar experience with another shop of same chain in Darlington where in ringing through stuff ended up crediting my step-mum for the value of the bracelet instead of charging for it).

It's a neat little thing, solar powered with the waveceptor stuff (auto-correcting time), and your usual bells n whistles. Not as blue as the image though.

And before someone makes a comment on my taste in watches: I've never been keen on the full metal band stuff, I like the combi-display Casios. At least it's not a G-shock. Or the..I think it was Diesel. Garish orange things.

Yeah I'd honestly prefer it if those dials weren't even on there. Because now it just displays like half of the (incorrect) day of the week in Spanish.

Led Zeppelin IV

The Song Remains the Same

Fleetwood Mac - Rumors
