Faiblesse Des Sens
^That. Though I definitely agree that a standard format that could be read by all e-devices, regardless of where you bought it, would be preferable. I know such formats exist, it's just kind of confusing to me that no companies adopt them when they don't seem to have a problem standardizing physical formats. Epub can be DRM-free and works across a bunch of shit. B&N uses the DRM version. Btw, besides the Nook e-ink readers where you can't use Amazon stuff, what about Sony and Kobo e-ink readers? Saturnine Tenshi
I complain pretty regularly about no standard e-book format. It's a real pain in the ass. And different readers handle the same format differently, too. Epub through B&N is definitely the worst I've come across. I haven't bothered with whatever bullshit iBookstore is using, mind you. They want me to use Apple software.
Faiblesse Des Sens
When you convert like any of these formats they turn to shit, too.
Faiblesse Des Sens
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236116 Got this second hand from a friend for $125. My current 1080p monitor has PS3 duty and this 1440x900 Gateway one is way too much of a piece of shit to use as a primary monitor in its place so I have this. I plan on buying a TV next month so I'll get rid of the Gateway at that point. 3 monitors seems like it would be overkill. Maybe I'll wall mount it or something... Also this: I actually bought a shitty PSU at Best Buy that I'm returning this week. I ordered this on Thursday or Friday and it's already here. I love Newegg. It was also $15 cheaper today so I emailed customer service this morning and they already responded and gave me $15 newegg credit. That's all for new computer stuff for now. Expensive month but this also means that I'm not buying anything for a while which is nice to have it all taken care of even if I wasn't really planning to so fast. Mal
Decided to upgrade to an electric toothbrush. Yes, it is a two pack ($124.99 - $40 instant rebate - $15 mail-in rebate = $69.99 eventually) so I'm planning on giving one to my mom or keep the other as a backup. Perhaps a spinning action would be better but damn is it powerful. Third night with it and I think I'm getting used to it now. I have to be careful though since some of my teeth has shallow roots (Science, I could use some grown replacement teeth here). Though, I feel it is better at getting to my wisdom teeth. Kind of useless for my tongue though. All for better dental hygiene. I think it is getting me to take it more seriously since I seem to floss more or it comes to mind. deanb
I bought a toastie maker since they're on cheap with students coming to Uni. I am now a god amongst my housemates.
TheMightyEthan
Is a toastie maker the same as a toaster? If not, what is a toastie maker? If so, why does that make you a god?
Luftwaffles
I think maybe it's like a panini maker?
deanb
Toastie maker (makes toasties): Toaster (makes toast): Panini press (makes paninis):
TheMightyEthan
So toastie = grilled cheese sandwich. Got it. We normally just make those on a skillet.
deanb
Grilled Cheese Sandwich ≈ Toastie. Bit more to it than just cheese (in fact cheese isn't always required).
TheMightyEthan
Well whatever it is it looks delicious, and I now understand why it makes you a god among housemates.
Thursday Next
Mmm... Toasties... How would that even work on a skillet (a skillet to my understanding being a frying pan). English v English snip coming in 3...2...
Pojodin
I bought a toastie maker since they're on cheap with students coming to Uni. I am now a god amongst my housemates. Well, it sounds like it would be quite the hit.
TheMightyEthan
Mmm... Toasties... How would that even work on a skillet (a skillet to my understanding being a frying pan). English v English snip coming in 3...2... Yeah, basically a frying pan (usually a skillet is completely flat, with only a small lip around the edge rather than the raised sides of a frying pan, but that's the main difference). You just put butter down on the pan, put the sandwich on, cook one side until it's brown then flip it and do the other. Unless I'm still misunderstanding what a toastie is... deanb
The toastie maker *cuts and *seals the toastie into two halves while cooking. Perfect for dipping in a pile of tomato sauce. Example here. Whereas a panini maker or cooking in a skillet/frying pan would have the sandwich whole and squished/unsquished and unsealed. Doing it in a pan would also require flipping it at some point, far too much work involved. *mostly. Depends how much you stuffed it and how cheap your toastie maker is. Thursday Next
What Dean said. It's the sealing that really makes it. Plus, it's pretty much guaranteed to cook evenly.
TheMightyEthan
Like my quesadilla maker that is supposed to divide it nicely into sixths but I always cram too much stuff into it so instead it just makes slight dents where it's supposed to have divided it. Mr. GOH!
I've always called those sandwich toasters. They are awesome.
TheFlyingGerbil
sandwich toaster is the correct term here in the UK too, Mr. GOH!, toastie (maker) is the colloquial term. @Mali. My electric toothbrushes have always lasted several years, so unless you want it sat in a cupboard that long on the off chance would give the other toothbrush to your Mum if she wants it. CorgiShinobi
There was always a corner that got crap signal strength, and without the need of plugging in devices, I got this little guy for $50. Honestly, if you need to improve any part of your wireless network in your home, get this range extender. I swear, it gives better coverage than the router itself.
