TheFlyingGerbil
Not a Dyson fan. I could buy a Henry and a Hetty for £200 and hope for some cute little handheld vacuum babies. And it was killing me writing hoover, tbh.
deanb
Eh, just trying to be somewhat mature. A nice hoover/vacuum cleaner can go a long way. Dyson come up with new hoovers much less than Apple do with new iPads.

TheFlyingGerbil
That's were you're going wrong then Dean. No use trying to be mature with me. Also, I'm currently on the phone with apple support, so that's a great start. Apparently I already have an apple ID with the email i wanted to use, but I've never set one up and it won't send me an email to reset the password so I can log in and see what's going on. The dude on the phone's "genius" solution was to set up an ID on another account. I'm a bit more concerned that someone is fraudulently using my email, and he's being totally useless about it. FFS, they've admitted to me that someone has used my email to fraudulently set up an account, but they can't do anything about it. Definitely made the right decision not selling the ipad on... Thursday Next
Seems that the problem they have identified is that "customer cannot access our service to give us more money" rather than "customer wants control of his personal data back". They are fixing their problem, namely the broken revenue stream, and not your problem, stolen (or misplaced) information. Not entirely surprised to be honest.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I have a free ipad mini 2 wending it's way to me as we speak. I did always say to myself I would never have an iDevice even as a gift but I must admit I am curious to try one out and a free one is a good way to go about that. struggling to decide if I should leave it sealed and sell it on or have a fiddle, and sell out. I really enjoy my Mini. I wish it was more powerful and higher resolution and I'm pretty sure the Mini 2 does both. Great little media devices. Mal
The firepower is real. With a wok ring, you can even tilt the wok to help with the wok hei since the flame, while hot as hell, is not that high. All I need to do now is to learn how to properly cook with a wok. I just made a stir fry noodle with beef. There's so many parts to it that it's hard to tell how I fucked up. I should just cook a bunch of stir fry green beans. That dish should be easy to do and easy to tell if it is done correctly. If anything, the chives that I used to season the wok tastes correct so this setup works. I should also say that I can fry stuff with (careful) abandon. If I was to do it in my kitchen, I would have to preheat a shit ton of oil. With this burner, I can make due with far less oil.

In fact the only difference between the 2 and new 3 is the touch ID reader. There's a few things I'm struggling with because I'm so used to doing them in different ways but I'm glad I decided to keep it.
deanb
I went birthday present shopping and accidentally splurged on a few deals in HMV I nearly picked up Love Actually. Also all the pixar blu-ray covers were pretty nice and I'd love to own them all.

deanb
Love, Actually is good. Fucking cracking cast for one. Billy Nighy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Emma Thompson, that bloke from Robin Hood, the one from Taken, the kingsman, that kid from Game of Thrones on the drums, the guy from the BT adverts, that one from Eastenders, Hugh Grant, Mr Bean, the hobbit as a porn stand-in. All sorts in there (two of which would go on from being romance stars to action stars unexpectedly) All kinda mishmashes together too despite being only two hours long and makes you feel all warm and bubbly inside.
TheFlyingGerbil
Love actually is the worst film ever made. All richard Curtis's films have the same immersion breaking style - the acting is super hammy and unnatural and the scripts are not at all how anyone would ever talk. Everything about the plots is all very contrived. They all just seems like a bad student play and Love actually is the acme of this.

madbassman39
After struggling with my terrible little laptop I decided it was time to find something more what I wanted both out of Windows 10 and as a personal device. I made the difficult decision to buy the Surface 3 with 4 gb of ram. Sure its not a surface pro, but really its more of a web browser with some email, word, Netflix, and Music device like I would any tablet. I just have a hard on for Microsoft all the time. I had a Zune for so long and loved the damn thing, bought into the Windows phone early on in the market, so this is nothing new. I have to say its very snappy and actually a pleasure to use, except for the mouse track pad which the only fault is it being too small.
Faiblesse Des Sens
^them ditching Windows RT for full Windows was the best decision. If I had the money or got a bonus or something I'd totally pick up the Surface 3 to replace several other devices. I can do my heavy lifting elsewhere.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I'd like a Surface Pro 3 to replace my laptop and Nexus 7.
Mal
I'd like a Surface Pro 3 to replace my T100 which is essentially a budget Surface Pro whatever. Anyhow, I cut the cord a year ago and I finally decided to make my TV have some use without being connected to my PC or PS3 so that I can just run my TV if I ever want to watch stuff. My TV and PC together can defeat the AC. So enter the Roku 2. Speed for me is king so the Roku won out since I think it is faster than Chromecast and Fire TV. At the very least, I can wire it up for max speed. Additionally: - I can put in a micro SD card in it to play my video files... I think? If so, it is a major plus. - I might be able to borrow my parent's or brother's cable TV service for expanded content... that or I get Sling TV if I want to dish out $20+ a month. I hope this works as I intent it to.
Hot Heart
Besides buying all sorts of bits and pieces and furniture for my new flat (which is awesome!), I've treated myself to some things. First up, got this t-shirt Which I really like because it doubles as a Critical Role and Monkey Island reference, plus I used to have the nickname Grog myself. Also, since our regular group started a Pathfinder campaign, one of the guys wanted to sort ordering some custom miniatures from Hero Forge so I designed this to reflect my character:
CorgiShinobi
Got myself a Logitech HD Webcam C310. One of my job interviews is a video interview where I record my responses to predetermined questions. Thing is, I couldn't use my tablet and the laptop I have collecting dust is 5 years-old and generates a lot of heat now. I actually looked up to see if I could get my ol' PS Eye to work because it's technically high quality webcam. I would have to install a custom driver, but the website it was hosted on was buggy and there wasn't much support for it lately. So, went shopping and the Logitech webcam was on sale for $30. 720p and has great audio quality, just don't know how much I'll use it. Guess I could video chat people. deanb
I bought a new 4TB external back-up drive to replace my aging 1TB one (it carries on cutting off, tbh might just be the cable or power supply but best to play it safe). I was mulling between a bog standard USB one and the "MyCloud" version. I mulled a bit, figured that maybe tablet/phone access might be neat but main time I used them for like films viewing or what not was usually while I'm on train or something and I've decent sized microSD's for that purposes. So I got the bog standard USB version. It was a fair bit cheaper and meant I didn't have to have my HDD wired up in the lounge (it only had ethernet and a USB extension port). You can maybe figure why I'd want all my HDDs in my room. I figure if I want the "myCloud" capabilities I can probably do it myself with either my PC or an older RasPi or something and wire it up. An I think next month I'll pick up a big internal HDD too. I'm unsure on the age of my current HDDs which is beginning to worry me, apart from the SSD they all pre-date my current PC and it'll be 2yrs old this xmas. Faiblesse Des Sens
The MyCloud is a NAS and is a completely different concept for storage. You would be able to access it from any computer in your house and beyond. That being said WD makes pretty terrible NAS boxes so good job on avoiding it. deanb
I know what a NAS is. The "Cloud" in the name and ethernet port for connection kinda gave it away. They do have an actual NAS solution with replaceable HDDs n such, but yeah it's a relatively basic solution. I imagine ideal for home use if you've a lot of movies to stream, but as n when/if I'd probably be eyeing up QNAP or similar. (Or as noted above stick something on a rPi)
